Which games will Skelly miss now?

pretty sure just the Forest one, since it’s not violent conduct.

Well it's not really the formula to beat Liverpool as they've only lost once, we've been easier to setup like this against but Yeah should have stated, since we've lost most of our front line this has been more of the case. Before then we always found a way but now it's basically 0 chance. And scoring from set pieces has dried up so we are pretty toothless as it stands

We seem to have become too happy with controlling the ball than actually stepping up a gear and trying to win the game

In neither should be on the bench let alone on the field of play, Pep and Chelsea were glad to get rid of them. Better with two young player’s and give them a chance.

It not the losing that annoys me. Its the slow-mo football, sideways and back, sideways and back. I don't find it exciting or entertaining. I don't know why our style was changed. Wenger's day was up but I will always admire his fast one-touch football when we had the opposition defenders facing their own goal. We have a boring style of football now with very little excitement except for the odd Saka or Nwaneri moment of skill.

Thats how Arteta has evolved the team now. It's all about control but it stifles and strangles the creativity and personality of the team. It's pretty turgid to watch.

Yesterday was the first time I stopped watching us play, I saw Sterling being brought on and thought, fook this, I'm going out to wash the car. Glad I did, it was therapeutic.

I think a big part of that is that during a lot of the Wenger years we were viewed as a soft team that other teams could get at. That allowed us much more opportunity for goals on the transition, or with a fast break.

These days we're a much more solid side at the back, while lacking players who can create a goal from nothing, as well as seriously lacking in the pace department up front. A lot of teams are happy to sit back against us, which leads to this slow sideways play. Even if we do get the opportunity for a fast break, we don't have a Walcott or Aubameyang who will outpace the defence. This is really evident at the moment with no Saka or Martinelli.

Maybe but in every game we play now we have the major share of play yet get it hard to create scoring chances. Players like Odegaard, Partey and Rice have few goals and now with all the forward players injured we need goals from there badly. They seem reluctant to shoot now and i suspect that they are told not to shoot unless its from certain areas. With Saka injured we have no trickery or creativity. Honestly it has become hard to watch and like the other poster I left yesterday and went for a walk. I honestly knew we wouldn't score if we were there yet. We have become a boring side now.

The major problem with Arsenal right now, is not the injuries to forward players, but, the way Arsenal play, so slow, stagnant, its easy for teams to set up against, just letting Arsenal play in front of them. While the injuries to the forward players hasn't helped, Arsenal were only averaging around 2 ppg when Saka got injured, that's not enough to win a league title. Arteta is relying totally on his defense and set pieces all season.

Probably the 3 most criticised players on here are Jesus, Havertz and Martinelli, yet the more games they miss the better they become! All 3 need to be upgraded if Arsenal are to win a league title. It was negligence that Arsenal didn't sign a proper striker in January, something they have been crying out for, for the last 2 or 3 seasons, whoever, is responsible for that decision should be sacked.

Still not totally out of it, but, Arsenal need a near total collapse from Liverpool and to be near perfect from now to the end of the season.

Regardless of who's been on the pitch, we just haven't looked the same team this season in my opinion. I struggle to think of many games where we've been brilliant.

Therefore, the loss of all of our main attacking threats bar Odegaard (who's been woeful) makes winning high level games with regularity nearly impossible.

Merino isn't a striker, Trossard has been mostly poor this season and the less said about Sterling the better. Nwaneri looks class but he's 17 so we can't expect him to carry us.

The Leicester game last week was a worry as Leicester are a championship team and we scraped past them by the skin of our teeth. Our set piece prowess seems to have deserted us too.

If we were 8 points clear of Liverpool at this stage I wouldn't be putting the house on us. The fact that we're 8 points behind gives us absolutely zero chance.

RE Liverpool, as hard as them winning will be to stomach, I'll take them winning 100 titles over City winning another one.

We have made two bad Prem loan signings that restricted us making another Prem loan signing in January.
Villa made two loan signings in January and they both combined to beat Chelsea in Rashford assisting Assensio twice.

Pool will of course deserve to win the title as just more consistent but it’s such a bizarre season. Not many managers could come in and win the title in their first season.
Can’t help but feel Arsenal have missed a massive opportunity that may not come again.

What makes it more impressive, is this Liverpool side, under a new manager are on course to finish with 90+ points. And I think they will. Crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,691 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

It will though. It's a cycle. It was a good opportunity, just wasn't to be.

Signing someone like Isak and having key players back after a big rest, could do wonders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,176 ✭✭✭omega man

Not sure about a cycle. It’s been over 20 years since we won it. Last year was agonisingly close yes but other than that we’ve been a good bit off and looks like not even a challenge this year and it’s still only February.
It’s hard to stomach that the same City that did us last year just imploded this year and we couldn’t capitalise.
Sorry, just hard to be optimistic right now.

There maybe some truth in that, however it looks like Liverpool just swapped places with City and are going to get another 90+ point title wrapped up.

If all the top teams were floundering, and it looked like Liverpool were going to limp home and win it win 80 odd points. I think that would be a sore one for Arsenal to take.

Tbh, I think the January window was probably 2 to 3 windows too late, and probably not the best time to sign players, but, someone like Mbeumo or Wissa at Brentford, probably not the high profile players people might think of, but, both are proven performers and scorers in the Premier league. There are others like Sesko etc, that Arsenal have been linked to for a few windows, but, haven't gone out and signed him or anyone. Arsenal really should have gone out last summer and signed their preferred striker in the same way they went after Rice. It was impossible to predict Man City's implosion this season, but, Arsenal looked best placed to challenge City, yet, find themselves well adrift of Liverpool with over 10 games left.

Unless players return very soon we could be out of everything. Bridesmaids yet again in the League if we manage to stay second. Not signing a CF was a huge mistake IMO. We need players back for the CL too because we won't go much further with what we have now, a tired looking and over-played squad. Also holding on to players becomes a problem in the summer. Saliba is in demand for one.

Talks of PSG after Rice too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭purplepanda

It was Mardi Gras in Eindhoven last time we played them in the CL last 16 KO, they beat us 1-0 & in the return league scored an equaliser late on.

They were all fancy dressed up, We had beers with Darth Vader, Mickey Mouse & Superman before the match. 20th Feb 2007 a long time ago. Still Holland is always a good away trip with Arsenal & Ireland.

Please god we'll win tinight lads! Hopefully young Skelly has learned his lesson and is back in the team tonight against Forest. Need big improvements from Rice and Calafiori. COYG

    Skelly is suspended.

I expect either Timber on the right and Calafiori on the left, or if White is ready to start, White on the right and Timber on the left.

I don't expect much from tonight. Forest are very dangerous on the counter, their transition is very smooth. They concede more lately and their first half against Newcastle was terrible, but I can't see who's going to score for us.
