A wee bit of a flurry of attacking play there. We need much more of that.

We are getting exactly what we deserve. Awful performance.

100% all season we've failed to take advantage of Liverpool slip ups, they look like the pressure to get a result is too much for them to handle

    Sounds like

    A: I'm not missing much

    And

B: what is happening was expected by most of us here.

Very disappointing. Getting nothing from Rice and Odegaard in an attacking sense. Taking wrong options every time.

    yeah, very poor first half.

Even if we win this match, it's hard to see how we can maintain a league challenge, even if Liverpool continue to drop points.

Yeah, they've been awful, Ødegaard trying to play the complicated pass every time, hard to see this team getting 2 today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,409 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

I really can't see us getting a result today. We're giving away needless freekicks, not pressing as a unit and our shot selection has been poor. If we are going to get something then we have to score very soon but I honestly can't see it happening. We've been awful right from the start.

Feck tis. I'm off for a walk. Half hour left playing at home and they are only starting to realise that they have to win this.

    Bottle Job FC

    Where's all the leaders?

Fluffing about with the ball there, can have no complaints with that.

Dunno why he didn't use Raya instead of trying to hang onto the ball

Yeah, and I think that was fair, certainly more of a red card than the one Saliba got earlier in the year.

This is sh1te. I'd almost prefer it now if Liverpool win tomorrow and put us out of our misery.

When you look at it, this team have a seriously weak mentality.

When things aren't going their way anything falls apart and they can't do even the basics right.

We need some serious additions in the summer.

Who gave permission to Sterling to take that free ffs.

    A hens kick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,203 ✭✭✭FixitFelix

Wether it was him or Ødegaard the result was gonna be the same

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,609 ✭✭✭wonga77

Sterling is so tame I doubt even if he got over the wall that he'd have enough power to do anything.

The most weak willed feeble stealing a living footballer I remember at the club for a long long long time

Reya showed more intent in that little cameo than most of the Arsenal players today.

club have no ambition. Can’t even attempt a title challenge in the weakest season in years. I hope Pool beat City tomorrow and just end this disaster.

Dreadful! Only saw the last 20 minutes. Need City to do us a huge favour tomorrow.

The formula against arsenal is pretty simple, sit in get your goal on the break and you'll see it out, not only have we struggled to score but now defensively far too open. It's strange but if city beat Liverpool it's still there but this team hasn't got what it takes.

If Liverpool win tomorrow and the league is more or less done and the pressure is off you'll see better performances, because this team can't handle it.

We need killers I'm our teams were far too nice

we should be a real title threat this season building on what arteta started but it seems the board have other ideas and did not back the manager or show support to the team by adding to a depleted squad, no lessons are being learned from all the windows that have passed us by without a striker being purchased

    The internet isn’t for everyone

As I said at halftime, I can't see us sustain a title challenge any longer. This was painful to watch, very little creativity. Odegaard had a poor game, but there is also no one to pass the ball to, Havertz's injury really destroyed any remaining hope, there is no anchor upfront to build the game around.

I'd rather Liverpool clear the game tomorrow, so the discussion about a title race can finish. Plus it gives us some breathing space to keep second place in the league, as I don't trust that we can stay there until the end of the season without other teams behind us dropping points too (Plus I can't stand City and rather see them losing).

Strength in dept is killing us, we all know it though.
You're not going to win a title when you have to bring on the likes of Zinchenko and Sterling. Theres nobody on the bench either and Merino was all at sea today which isnt his fault.
Just dont have the numbers, Felix is right, as soon as the title is gone we'll start playing a bit better, Saka will come back and all of a sudden we'll be left rueing the injuries at the end of the year when we inevitably finish a few points behind in 2nd place.
    Rinse and repeat

That's fair. I also think though that Arteta has become a bit more conservative in how he approaches games, compared to last season. Our game has become much more about control and not losing possession and that, in my opinion, has affected fluidity. We seem a bit slower in the build up and this gives our opponents to organise - and the lack of an out and out striker makes this even worse.

And I agree 100% with you re: the lack of striker. I'm also getting a bit concerned that Arteta and the club hierarchy may prioritise replacing/upgrading/enhancing other positions (Partey replacement, additional wingers etc) and we end up not buying a striker again.

I could see from the first 5 minutes that we were not up for this. Our midfield was contributing zero and there was a reluctance all through the match (until i left and went for a walk) to put the ball in to the box. We had no CF to score anyway. My son told me that we had a freekick halfway inside their half late on and Odegaard played it backwards. Says everything. Watery performance. No backbone when we needed it at home.

Title challenge dead and buried now but it hasn't really been alive for a long time anyway in reality. Staying in top 4 now the challenge.

That's also the formula to beat Liverpool, or any decent side, dating back to the invention of football.

Of course it helps that these teams know that we're missing all of our best attackers.

Everything above would’ve been said had we not got two late goals last week.

If we don’t get the first goal it seems like we can’t force a win. It’s all a bit too slow trying to overly control every game.

We are being made to pay for not investing in any meaningful forwards the last few years. Overly relying on the same usual and then passing on huge responsibility to talented kids.
