😂😂😂 the one time you get a calm night in salthill the pitch dose an impression of the plowing championships 😂

it wouldn't have made a difference if the game was played in the school next door the better team won either way ,

Good win for the hurlers. What I've liked about the last 2 matches was the attitude if the players, particularly the younger/newer lads. Hard work, and I'm thinking of John Fleming here. Nothing flashy, just constant "work, work, work" - it makes a lot better player than just flashy touches etc.

Burns, in at corner forward, was brilliant, but some of that was down, imo, to the ball that was delivered into him - low and in front of him. How many times did we see, last year, of balls being sent in to the forwards that were coming "out of the clouds"? It gives talented forwards more than a 50/50 chance of using their skills, as opposed to trying to use strength to win the ball etc.

Clare were a "pale imitation" of what they'll be in the summer, but it was good to get the won, nonetheless. If we can beat Wexford, next time out, that'll see us safe from relegation.

Last, and by no means least, RIP to Michael Coleman and condolence to his wife and children. 61 is no age at all.

forgot about flemming , but as you say the ball into both burns and whelan was excellent , it was bouncing in front of both players in that pitch , cianan fahey , tom monaghan and gavin lee are the main orchestrators of that game plan , fair enough the game plan will be different in june or july but every team wants to show progress like galway are showing at the moment in fairness

You must not get the chance to go to many club games so, burns been outstanding for the majority of the season last year, great that he took him chance, mono and killeen very good last night aswell.

For a 20min spell Galway were excellent last night and played nice stuff, the highlight being burns touch to round his man on the far side

A decent start for Noel Michael and co but they won't be getting carried away and know the task of the job ahead of them.

To be fair I am from Clare the only club game I watched in Galway this year was the county final and even then I wasn't taking many notes

But in fairness to Galway they look a much more oilled machine then under shefflin already

No worries, early days yet but saw good fight in that Galway side last night.

Every good team needs a Fleming in the half forward line, win a dirty ball when it hits the deck. We've been missing that.

tiernan killeen dropping out to midfield from half forward line is key

What happened to Galway in the 2nd half. Only saw the score at half time and the last few mins but Derry were all over them. Was there a strong wind or just didn't come out in 2nd half

A few of them need a wake up call. Though two calls changed the game...a wide signalled as a point and stupidly getting caught with only 1 up.

Surely he needs to change things up a bit now for the next game. Rest Conroy and try Flahert in goals for a game or two

Shane Walshs form a big positive

Derry just wanted it more in the second half….got the initiative and Galway could not wrest it back.

A draw that felt like a defeat. No harm getting a wake up call like that.

Gleeson being penalised for dithering over taking a kick out was maddening. If there is nothing on boot it down the field.

They let Derry take over in the second half…..almost every breaking ball, fifty-fifty chance , every scoring chance Derry took it…..and well done to them.

Should have won it in the end.

Given the weather, have decided not to travel. My adult and a juvenile ticket are free to anyone who wants.

Was that red very harsh on Tierney I thought it was more on the top shoulder he hit him rather than the head. Could have a big bearing on the 2nd half in them conditions no lead would be safe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,898 ✭✭✭Robson99

Shocking decision. No intent in it whatsoever and Donegal player dropped the head into him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,021 ✭✭✭testtech05

I can't actually see any clear head contact at all in the pictures.

Both Cassidy and Sice saying it shouldn't be a red based on my limited irish

A very good display till the catastrophic red Imv... Can them lads not sit in a studio, perishing themselves in the wind and rain, a hangover from covid

I wonder what the record for most points in a competitive inter county game of football is? Shane Walsh must be threatening it here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,021 ✭✭✭testtech05

Defended very well in the 2nd half and snuck a few very important scores. Walsh showing what he can do when fully fit another brilliant display

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,413 ✭✭✭h2005

Incredible display by Walsh. Any indication how far off Comer is?

Good direct football from Galway up to the red card to open up a sizeable lead. You'd have to wonder what Donegal were at. It was obvious that they couldn't close the gap on 1pointers alone yet they continually ignored shooting opportunities on the arc in favour of recycling the ball or carrying it inside to try and pick off a handy 1pointer.

If there's one thing the games have shown so far, it's the teams that are positive and willing to take the risks will inevitably win the game. If Donegal keep playing safety first under McGuinness they have no hope.

IImpressed by the pressing of Galway throughout the game.

Have to factor in Donegals motivation levels to be in a league final, and their changed team selection told a lot. Still despite that, it was probably as impressive a league performance as Galway have had in quite a while

The first half was obviously good and those type of conditions suit Walsh in particular more than anyone in the country. I was particularly impressed by the second half though and the control they showed, despite being down to 13 for a lot of it (even if it isn't the penalty it used to be)

Walsh's ball carrying was brilliant, it was like the 25 year old version of himself. Maher, Kelly and O'Flaherty all carried excellently also. I thought the defending by McGrath and McHugh to push right out and never all handy shots off was great also

I don't dislike Gleeson as much as most but it really felt like what a Monaghan, Armagh or Tyrone fan must be like there in the first half today. Flaherty was a true option in attack. Although I think they'll change the 12v11 rule, he should still get more time

I have my doubts about PJs desire to be in a league final given the NY trip a few days later and he's been resting a few so will be interesting to see what happens from here given that safety is no guaranteed

Dont think the New York game will be worrying Joyce for him to want to avoid a league final. Be more reason to give him good prep for championship and another game in croker and he would love to win silverware there and get that monkey off the back and setup nicely for later on the year. Looks like could well be the dubs they meet in final if make it. I seen Johnny Henry was togged against Armagh but hasn't made bench since then. Is he injured or has he been overtaken by likes of o laoi.

Was he not swapped in against Derry last week?

Think the team needs to win a league final. 3 finals in recent years and no win, need to get that monkey of the back!
