Delighted with the win although expected an easier ride. It's a sign of an excellent team who can dig out a win even when playing poorly. One thing from me from the match is that Sheehan is not captain material...a great player but lacked leadership yesterday. Captain is such a pivotal role and not for everyone

I’m not sure it was a leadership issue as most leaders on the field do it in action not in words. There was no leadership and an absence of quality playmaking . Can’t put that on Sheehans shoulders it’s a team requirement and only JGP & Bundee really laid down the gauntlet

Always? No, like everyone else I hoped he’d develop into a good OH but I gave up on that quite a while ago. If you’re bored, you can find plenty of posts from me arguing that his cameo in South Africa last summer was evidence that he’s not a good OH and the drop goals were a distraction.

You’re implying that I was previously hyping up Frawley but am now talking him down to make Prendergast look better. I can assure you I’m not.

“Leinster fans” are not a single entity.

This is my worry. What does Crowley do now? Clearly the management have made the call at out half. Crowley isn’t even getting on the pitch in that position. I thought we’d have two really good out halves for the next World Cup but Crowley mightn’t be available. If I were him I’d take the inevitable big money options from the Premiership or France. Not in a fit of pique but in a hard nosed professional decision. Munster are going nowhere, unfortunately. Keenan is locked on at full back. Sam is younger than him.

Quite a few forward passes missed I thought and that was probably the most glaring. Maybe it's just not Ridley's thing.

The Welsh lineouts rarely straight so I think they picked up on it early

I'd have no issue with Crowley starting at 10 but I honestly don't think Frawley is in Prendergast's class in that position. He missed 8 tackles and made 8 yesterday which is probably 8 more than ROG made in his career and is more than Anscombe and Russell combined managed. That's not meant to be a dig at ROG, it's just what you often get with a 10. Of course it's an area Prendergast can improve in but he brings an awful lot to the table and his mental strength is really impressive.

I certainly wouldn’t be throwing the baby out at this point with Crowley, who says he doesn’t get selected for France. It’s both essential and also in the managements interest to have 2 strong 10’s which means a confidence reboot for Crowley is required. Many would feel he has been treated unfairly but he has reacted with strength of character which doesn’t go unnoticed. Getting Sam the match needed game time will stand to his and our collective benefit but there is no sense to having only one primed 10 at any juncture as we learned to our detriment in RWC

Not having a go at ROG but then you spout lies about his tackling stats. What's that meant to mean?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,818 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

No no.. not implying, just curious about your previous stance. I am not one for trawling back through posts.

You do post quite level headed and are not prone to reacting like a 12 year old girl.

    long may it continue.

I'm sure there are plenty of people here who'd disagree with that…

But I can't get too worked up about Prendergast v Crowley because they're both good options. It genuinely is a good problem to have.

Prendergast had a shocker in defence yesterday but it's hopefully a blip because he's been generally OK. He's still a fair bit off Crowley in defence and there's no point saying otherwise. On the flip side, he can do things in attack that Crowley cannot and I absolutely see where the coaches are coming from in giving him as much game time as possible.

If France look to be clicking in attack again today, I think they'll have to consider if Prendergast is too much of a risk in two weeks. As of now, I'd be 95% certain they'll stick with him.

Ronan O'Gara made his Munster debut in 1997, a year after he finished university. Between then and 2013, he made 240 appearances for the club, 2,625 points from fly-half. During this time, he won the Heineken Cup twice, the PRO14 (then the Celtic League and the Magners League) three times and the Celtic Cup once.

O'Gara received his first call-up for Ireland in 2000. Between 2000 and 2013, O'Gara was capped 128 times for Ireland and scored more than 1,000 points. During this time, he won the Grand Slam with Ireland in 2009 and three triple crowns.

O'Gara was selected for three Lions tours. On these tours, he was capped twice.

Both Prendergast and Crowley have a lot to do to match what O’Gara achieved He was not a great defender but he did control a game very well. And if 50-22 existed then he would have been even more effective.

Many would feel he has been treated unfairly

    He hasn't though.

He had the jersey, another guy came along and took it, it's up to Crowley to take it back now. Same as it is for literally every other player who's ever played test rugby. "Fair" is exactly what it is.

Ross Byrne was firmly the second choice leading up to the RWC and in pole position to be Sexton's successor… then Crowley blew past him. That wasn't "unfair" on Byrne, it just is what it is.

I don't have a record of them. I've had some success for my followers. I'm off to France tomorrow to begin my research on the French game. I can't give away too much but I'll be in a tree in Toulouse keeping an eye on the form of someone who sounds like Cantoine Pupont.

That's a bit disingenuous. Ross Byrne was never at the level of an international test 10, and having him in our 23 only showed that we had no plan B to Sexton. When Crowley emerged, it was a general sigh of relief that we now at least had someone who would start in most international teams.

Not using him in the 6 nations is a wasteful scandal which will inevitably come back to haunt us in the next WC.

Hopefully Crowley will stay around. I expect he will get offers.

I can see Crowley as our no. 12 in a year ortwo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 576 ✭✭✭exiledawaynothere

that can only happen if Harry Byrne joins Munster as starting 10. But would Crowley trust the management to back him? I don’t think so but let’s see what happens in two years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,462 ✭✭✭almostover

JJ Hanrahan appears to be coming back to us, not sure how I feel about that other than feeling glad that Billy Burns is being moved on.

Personally I'd prefer Ross Byrne to Harry but Ross has himself sorted with a move.

Good quality feed from Ashton Gate.

is this the thread for the A game?

It’s not disingenuous - do people even know what that means? It’s 100% factual.

The point is Byrne was ahead of Crowley until he wasn’t, Crowley was ahead of Prendergast and now it looks like he’s not. It’s the same for everyone.

People may not like this or agree with it but it isn’t “unfair”

I’d say Crowley would be absolutely mortified if he knew people were using the term “wasteful scandal” on his behalf

They don't have to be. Everyone knows Ireland don't contest opposition lineouts (and sometimes their own) so they can just throw however they want.
