team out.Is Jordan Molloy too small for midfield against Limerick?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 94 ✭✭biglad40isback

kiely with experimental team. Not much on the bench.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭conor05

Was hoping Mackessy would be back for this game with his size and power against the Limerick lads.

    Midfield looks a bit lightweight.

Be interesting to see how Donnelly and Shine will go against Limerick.

Thought he had a great game in the league semi vs Limerick last year think he did a man marking job that day

Think Molloy did well in the league last year against cian Lynch although lynch looks to be moving better this year.

Tom Morrissey, Peter Casey and aiden ó Connor are not bad subs to bring on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Marrooned

ye I thought that myself. Anyway we’ll have to see how it goes

    ??

I'd say not less than 10 and maybe up to 12 of Limerick's championship team starting, with at least two more certain starters on bench.

Kilkenny team looks weak, maybe 7-8 champ starters with a few who will never make it and 2 or 3 that have never quiite done so.

For me, free of injuries, there is one back spot open as I feel Shane Murphy is a must (Butler's form is concerning but he thrives come championship). One midfield, as Cian Kenny is a must and 5 forward spots are filled, but remaining spot could be fileld by up to a dozen possibles (none of whom at present are showing enough).

We really need to find a corner forward and use Billy Ryan as a 20-25 mins sub on tiring backs.

Agree with a lot of that but we badly need 3/4 lads to step up as what we have so far is not good enough, as proven over the last 4/5 years.

Limerick we well beatable with Nicky Quaid, Sean Finn, Dan Morrissey, Kyle Hayes, Will O'Donoghue, Darragh Donovan, Gearoid Hegarty, Tom Morrissey and Peter Casey all not starting. That is 9 of the team that back boned them the last few years in reserve through injury, rest and rotation.

wasn’t sure whether it was lynch or the other midfielder if lynch is tied up doesn’t allow Limerick to get into as much of a flow I think

Sad to see Conor O' Donovan's motion being voted down.

Hurling is being made ridiculously easy by allowing the rules be gamed by clever coaching.

When we get to 2 scores per minute and bored of watching 100 yard points sail over the crossbar by 10 metres, it will be too late to put the brakes on.

Ilegal and excessive handpassing, the steps rule being ignored and hurleys that are now no more than 30 inch bats with massive bas' will eventually make the game a mish mash of lacrosse and basketball.

I am relieved I was very much against it, agree there is an issues but thought that was an awful solution.

Sorry lads I'm out of the loop being in the States, what was the motion?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭The_Tank

There’s a weather warning tomorrow - when would it be decided if it was to be postponed? (I live a few hours from Kilkenny and don’t fancy being stood up!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭JJs Left Hand

Can't handpass with the same hand

Tank, I'd say you'll be safe enough. Looks like most of the damage in KK will be between 7 and 11. Obviously the pitch could take a bit of punishment but doubt enough not to play it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭Sir Chaz

basically that you can't handpass directly from the hand you're holding the ball in.

I think it's a shame it wasn't given a chance. Apparently it was trialled and worked well. There's way too much throwing going on and it's next to impossible to police. O'Donovans proposal is a simple and effective way of stopping it and I'm surprised it didn't get more backing. Perhaps too many of the big counties styles, particularly Limerick and Cork, depend far too heavily on it. It's fashionable to use Cian Lynch as an obvious culprit, but it's just because he does it so often. Hurling looks more like basketball and Gaelic sometimes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 421 ✭✭droppingball

I believe it was a freshers match where it was trialled but it lead to lots of rucks and annoying brick flicks which look worse than the handpass. Anything is worth a go i suppose.

Probably should change the steps rule anyway as 4 isn't policed at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭Sir Chaz

at least the brick flick is definitely legal. Would likely lead to more rucks alright but teams would adapt to that as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 421 ✭✭droppingball

The Paddy Leavy version of the Brick flick pass just sends me over the edge, it looks terrible, don't want it to be used more.

Some fella here last week saying darragh mccarthy was no good. 😂😂😂

Offaly going to make Leinster very competitive this year which will make it very interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 642 ✭✭✭mullinr2

Why are we not producing players like Darragh Mccarthy; Adam English; Shane O Brien; Adam Screeney? Our young lads play like they have lead in their boots, no movement or any real skill

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 154 ✭✭Box to box

Its no secret tipp have a huge amount of work done. Liam usually has his teams going well but they have peaked too early the last few years. They are improving the short game. They have some very good young players. They have great time to herity. What's very noticeable is most county's are able bring through a few young lads but kk really struggle. A offally team backed bone by that golden crop beat dublin.

Limerick down alot of big players. Kk really need a big performance whatever about the result they need a big performance. I'd like to see kk push up and not give them most of the puckouts. Bookies or alot of kk people not giving them a chance.kk were dreadful for a lot of the Galway match and the second half of wexford. If they play like that they could be in for a skutching. No one is found yet that you could say they will make a impact in 8 weeks time when the championship starts. Stephen donnelly and Harry shine are the two most likely to make it imo so I'd persist persist with them. The backs and goalie is kk championship team. Shane Murphy might come in for someone. Midfield has being a big problem for years. I'm hoping mackessy will make it around midfield and Kenny join him, donnelly and Mullen would be a big help. Is Owen Wall injured or gone off the panel? He had a bit of pace and was direct something that's being lacking.

Cbs will be disappointed. They were a few points up at half time but made a few positional changes that didn't work. Scored 15 points in the first half and didn't score from play is the second half only getting 5 frees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 154 ✭✭Box to box

It's not a secret kk are a very poorly coached team and this doesn't help. Last year they hadnt even a proper coach. This isnt acceptable at this level but its let happen.Tactically kk are poor.kk have always produced a classy inside foward but its a long time since that happened. From the team that won the u20 a few years ago only killian doyle and Harry shine start.Kk aren't able to devolop younger players. Another huge problem is movement but anyone who watches the matches will see the quality of ball going in is brutal. Its not a fowards ball. It's usually driven a hundred mile an hour. Kk will get a lesson on movement, space and delivery into the fowards. Coaching is a big area of concern.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭conor05

Kilkenny have any amount of good young hurlers, but Limerick have a top of the pops set up with Kinnerk involved so when these lads aged 19-22 come through after un20 and/or Fitzgibbon they are exposed to a very high level elite style of coaching, S&C and hurling that is already in place.

It is basically a professional hurling environment.

Kyle Hayes at number 7 was/is a big part of their attacking out from the back, so if he has to go to 6 this year you’d wonder will they be as formidable this summer, Cork kept every single puck out away from his side last year and it paid huge dividends.

"Ah shure, we just got a right good crop back 10 years ago, we will be back winnin nothin soon enough" spare me.

Limerick and Dublin will be the standard bearers in the two codes for years to come. They are streets ahead of competition in resources and developing 18-21 year olds.

Dublin beat league champions Derry tonight by 15 points with a team of players that achieved nothing at underage, players at 17/18/19 won next to nothing, disnt even win Leinsters, but now, beefed up serious footballers.

And refusal to look at the rules of hurling being ignored, will only widen this chasm.

if you watched Tipp v Cork tonight on slow motion, I guarntee you you'd pick up at least 100 rule infringements on hand pass and steps alone.

And the **** Brick flick, spare me, a child could execute a Brick flick with a 30 inch bat and a 10 inch bas.

Hurling is being dumbed down and rules waived, to create a visual spectacle, but it will end badly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,599 ✭✭✭Village87

Agree fully on Hayes, no wonder they pulled out all the stops to keep him out of jail. He is the best hurler in the country the last 10 years. Will go down as one of the greats

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Marrooned

So the GAA condone the breaking of the rules in hurling with the throwing of the ball by not even offering an alternative or a compromise to. Conor o Donavan’s motion, and don’t come on here and say they are all doing it. It breaks the rules and the only way it can be acceptable I s change the rules. Weather is to clear for a few hours around match time, at the moment it’s squally, we walked to school in worse in our bare feet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 94 ✭✭biglad40isback

hayes will go at 6 against cork in the championship and switch flanks during the game thats what i would do.

They can play at 7 against everyone else and i feel that limerick are going to give waterford and tipp a beating for the ages in Munster

I think Nowlan park will cut up today too manicured and not able for the heavy stuff and very few matches been played on it. Even Semple stadium was been ploughed up last night. On Tipps Darragh Mc Carthy wouldn’t we love to have him. In fairness I’d say the poster on hear was only reading the stats which stated he only scored a point from play in three matches but surely he won a few of his own frees and his general play must have been excellent. What’s that says stats don’t lie?
