My neighbour's dog bit me

Possibly call to your neighbour's house and tell them what happened. Suggest that they pay your medical expenses and control the dog in future.

You could also report it to the dog warden.

My Aunt's dog was put down like this about 15 years ago after biting someone in a Cork Shopping Mall.

You should be ok, you've had a tetanus shot.

The antibiotics were probably over the top, how big was the wound? Did you have stitches?

Keep it clean, don't get it wet. After a week change the dressing… depends on the wound but after a certain amount of time some air will be good. I'm surprised the nurse that gave you the shot didn't tell you how to look after the wound.

You'll be fine, I wish you a speedy recovery. They normally bite on the buttocks and legs, so hopefully no finger damage.

Regarding future safety and the community? I wouldn't be comfortable if I had kids and there's a biter off lead. You could go down the litigious route and contact a solicitor, you could talk to the owners (that could go nuclear if they're morons) it's up to you and how approachable they are.

Normally the dog owner with the correct insurance, lead, care, socialisation, training and love are the ones that don't really need the third party insurance.

Fair play to Beaumont for doing what Laya should have done. Bad form to treat dog bites, but then send patients to public hospitals for tetanus injections. And their approach to prescribing antibiotics is not good.
