I was at the LEO awards last year in the Mansion House and the MC was Dobson. He does this every year for no money. If only his RTE Colleagues were as classy.

1 in 5 member of staff are managers.

    Kay Before says

There are 300 people in RTE characterised as managers. They may be line managers or may not manage people. Many managers are brilliant and some are not so good.

Can we have any examples of bad ones? !!!

You'd have to think if you haven't got your redundancy package up and running that you'd be actively seeking to see how some of the bad managers might improve or provide some service to the company.

He said 176/177 applied for the last exit scheme and just 26 people left

How many of the 177 applications were approved?

The article has remove some of the chatter about TG4 but it states

The state allocated €225 million for RTE this year plus €60 million for TG4. RTE recorded a deficit of €9.1 million in 2023.

Just to make it clear TG4's €60m is to TnaG a separate independent company to RTÉ, RTÉ only connection to TG4 is support of about 7m, most of which is News and CA programming.

According to DCU media monitor* RTÉ had 33% of the auidence last year…. according to TAM ireland nearly 300m was raised by TV advertising in 2024. That 33% is nearly 50% when it comes to TV adversiting as only 70% of all channels sell advertising into the irish market.

    So 225 + 150 = 375 + radio advertising + some some smaller commercial activity.

    https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/one-five-staff-rte-managers-34712904

*not sure what they call their media monitor but they are wrong but it suits my arguement, RTÉ have about 26% of the audience.

And I sincerely doubt he does anything for free.

I know RTE were cooking the books for a bit, where they claimed they were paying presenters a certain fee, and then those same presenters were taking cash subversively by having their own production companies that took payment for them.

So free was not 'free', it was paid via a surrogate.

Ended up bring me down a rabbit hole of retirees at RTÉ.

    1. Father was once new editor (Fisher)
    2. both Son and Daughter worked in RTÉ
    3. I'd not be surprised if grandkids are now in place.

On top of that, the former RTÉ news editor who exited due to the "missions to prey" scandal attended a shindig at RTÉ for the retirement of two people. While newly appointed DM of News gave a speech, Kevo Before if your wondering.

So it completely likely that Ms Forbes, Ms Doherty, Mr Coveney and Mr Jennings will be attending a 100 year celebration of Public service broadcasting!

So RTÉ are trying to hire someone for the 5 year plan… you'd wonder why they have a leadership team… and at the same time they want to cut 40 positions…

I imagine this is where 'Fee Dorbes' can get hired by RTE on a permanent contract.

Watched Prime Time tonight. Some interesting topics.

But then it ended on a 'posh British Trinity student wants people to stop grabbing the Molly Malone statue's knockers'…. and le sigh.

No counter argument, just a smug Miriam sitting across the way while this student and busker wants the Molly Malone statue put on a plint or barricaded off so 'men' (and it's always men they blame, no matter how many photos show women grabbing the metal boobs) should be banned from groping the statue.

No mention of how the bull outside Wall Street has his testicles regularly groped. Nor the Ronaldo statue where the crotch has been groped so much the bronze is showing (similar to the bull, or the Molly Malone). It's a bloody statue— not a real person… why encourage this ridiculous madness?

Also. quick question— where is the rage over the abominable handling of the aftermath of Storm Eowyn? Some people only got their electricity back less than a month ago, and now this crap is on TV?

Is this the same crazy rubbish that happened the last time Trump was in power? We're barely three months in and now they're throwing this dumb stuff out again. There are actual wars going on, right now, if a tourist wants to feel a statue, let them at it.

she could always move to another spot to “Busk” to avoid offence!

It's the buskers that should be got rid of, nothing other than a public nuisance

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

    https://about.rte.ie/working-with-rte/vacancies/

    Senior Transformation Programme Manager, RTÉ

RTÉ launched the New Direction Strategy in June, 2024.  The strategy is about ensuring the future and the relevance of a transformed RTÉ. It is about delivering a strong and independent public service, available to everyone; it is about creating a trusted organisation delivering for Irish audiences; it is about backing creative ambition and digital innovation; it is about supporting Irish culture and bringing people together; it is about reflecting all of the country and supporting the creative industry across the island. Over the period of this strategy, many aspects of the organisation undergo fundamental change, with new content and other operating models.

The delivery of the strategy is led by the Director General, with responsibility for implementation assigned to the Deputy Director General with the Leadership Team. The Senior Transformation Programme Manager will be key to successful implementation of the strategy.

Reporting to the Deputy Director General, the person in this role will develop and lead RTÉ’s recently established Transformation Programme. This is a multi-disciplinary programme of works designed to transform RTÉ and embed lasting change, aligned with RTÉ’s New Direction strategyA New Direction for RTÉ.

Nearly a year into their New Direction, this person will be onboarded. Not only that according to RTÉ the Deputy DG didn't take a pay rise when he was promoted (though we know this is because he was overpaid as Director of whatever), and this basically gives him an assistant to do the extra work that he had taken on.

    Cormac and now Sarah,

    https://www.independent.ie/style/celebrity/rtes-sarah-mcinerney-it-was-the-time-when-brian-odriscoll-was-going-out-with-glenda-gilson-i-spent-a-lot-of-time-in-renards/a361948064.html

“Not to say it wasn’t difficult, but this was a story like any other story,” McInerney says. “It took maybe a couple of days for us all to realise this was happening, and to understand the enormity of what was unfolding, because the vast majority of people knew nothing about what was happening. I think there was a lot of upset in the organisation.

I don't believe this and if you'd had done your job you'd have noticed the cuts to content, while the executives were living the high life.

I interviewed the director general myself on a couple of different occasions. It’s not my favourite thing to have to do an interview with the boss of the organisation, but you have a job to do, which is to detach yourself from the story. Be objective, be fair, be balanced and ask questions that people want to ask. I treated him as if he was the director general of an organisation I didn’t work for.

Did you detach yourselves when interviewing Dee Frobes or did you get a chance?

A lot of the senior management positions have been filled, and those people are getting their feet under the desk now. There’s a sense, right now, of a new beginning, and because there are new people there, I’d be very positive and hopeful.

    How so?
