my experience of the VW AP is also good - I’ve had it through all versions for 10 years in the Tiguan and gold, and the current one is incredibly intuitive - on motorways especially, you can feel it react just at the same moment you might react yourself, and doesn’t over/under react.

just noticed the VW have stopped offering the HP 0% rate (PCP still 2.9) on the ID3, any idea when that was withdrawn?

What is the catch with gtx? Likely high depreciation? Then again they have set nearly a 50% gmfv on it. Have the software issues actually been fixed?

Seems like a very good proposition anyway.

There's no way my id3 would have prevented a rear end collision, this is nonsense, you'd want to have the distance set nearly to the max, several times on the N7 commuter traffic the car dash lit up red beeping at me with a warning to take over and I know it wouldn't have stopped had I not intervened.

Setting the distance further helps a lot but people always want to jump in front of you for keeping 3 or 4 car spaces, so many people seem to loose the rag if the car in front actually wants to keep a safe distance.

Never had an issue with any software issues on my 1st.

Traded It in for my GTX, can't find fault with the GTX. No software issue since I got it 3 weeks ago. Great range lovely to drive

When you compare to the standard model 3 it is very attractive in my view. Seems to be better in many ways.

I haven't had any issues with my tesla on a mechanical level but auto wipers and road noise are annoying along with a slightly harsh ride. I believe the new one is better with road noise and comfort. It is also one of the most efficient evs you can get like the old one. I don't like how the indicator stalk works so can't imagine liking the new no stalk design.

My thinking is the gtx performance options included have it above the model 3 bar having to add travel assist. Bigger battery even though not as efficient will get you further. More performance although I'm not that bothered about that since the tesla has plenty for my usage, always nice to have a bit more when you want to put the boot down I suppose.

This is all based on the thought that vw have sorted their issues with the software side of things… I don't need tesla gimmicks but I do need it to be reliable.

The efficiency and supercharging and things like the memory seats are better in Tesla.

If I had to buy a car in the morning I’d probably go back to a well specd VAG. And that’s without considering the Tesla ceo. I really liked my id.3.

I had a 2021 for 2 years and the software worked fine though with the occasional odd glitch. Once software version 3.1/3.2 arrived this really steadied things and the software was at an OK acceptable standard. I now have a Born with version 5.0 software (very similar to VW's version) and it is in a completely different league being fast, very responsive and intuitive enough to use easily. I'm sure it's not as good as the Tesla system with ongoing changes and OTA updates etc. etc. - however it works absolutely fine.

same here. the available of the dealer network in 3 years time is a big thing to consider. Id say 90/95%+ of 3 year old cars aren’t sold privately.

The online manufacturers don’t want their own cars back. that’s going to be an issue in the long term for sure, as your choices are more limited. Most people wouldn’t know where to start selling a relatively expensive car privately.

The best cure to VW software is wireless Apple carplay. I never ever use the VW system, or even see it really.

That’s not a slight on VW, we just wouldn’t buy a car without CarPlay any more.

I've noticed this also. I think these are the same idiots that pull in front of trucks and buses in their braking space.

Having owned a Model 3 (with vision only) and ID.3 with travel assist, I prefer the ID.3's ACC. It's smoother on bends and less erratic than the Model 3 which randomly braked sometimes.

Are the onboard maps any better in 2025 models than they are on cars running software 3.2? My 2022 model is still running 3.2 and, just for a laugh, I decided to give it a go today for the first time in years. It was pathetic: took my on a route that was in no way the most direct or fastest. And the businesses it highlighted en route were fairly random, often miscategorised and several of them haven't existed for years. I quickly switched back to Google Maps.

I'm hoping the new model has better onboard software because with software 5.0, using it allows the car to plan charging stops and automatically preheat the batteries in time for arrival. But I'm not very optimistic.

You may need to update the maps. I’m not sure how the online updates for maps work but you can update via USB. File size is about 32gb.

Waze is great for maps. You can see speed cameras and other obstacles ahead.

Mine updates most months on its own. Its the only OTA that really works in the ID cars up to now.

I'm hoping the new model has better onboard software because with software 5.0, using it allows the car to plan charging stops and automatically preheat the batteries in time for arrival. But I'm not very optimistic.

The reviews show that it is much better and does have charging planning and battery preheating. Its been out for a while so we're not waiting on a promise anymore, its in delivered cars.

VW promised all that back in 2020! Its here now, at least.

lol, what issue have you with Elon Musk ? he's after uncovering some serious corruption in relation to USAID , not to mention the funding of many media outlets throughout the World to spread Left wing only propaganda, surely you don't promote suppression of free speech and flooding Europe with unvetted military age Muslim migrant Males and Ireland being flooded with them all over the Island ?

Anyone that trusts or believes these modern so called safety systems can prevent an accident really shouldn't have a license in my opinion, while they are good assistance aids to have they can not prevent accidents if a car ahead is to brake too hard unless the ACC is set to a much greater distance but as I said, this is fine on emptier roads but on commuter routes with a lot of stop and go traffic like on the N7 there is absolutely no way the id3 will stop a rear end collision if the car in front stops too hard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 789 ✭✭✭Sam the Sham

I think the point is that the radar system used by VW is almost certainly quicker than any human to pick up even small slowdowns of the car in front. This is especially true in bad weather or when the car in front is slowing down without using the brakes (downshifting for example). This can be verified even without ACC just by driving in D in any EcoAssist mode.

If the car in front slams on the brakes, sure, the ACC might not stop in time. But there’s not much reason to believe a human would do better in the same circumstances.

This is not to say that there aren’t situations where a human is much better able to read and react to what’s happening. There are. And so it makes sense always to be attentive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,795 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

A human is much better because the Human can see several cars in front if they know how to actually drive, ACC systems can't, making them much more inferior.

ACC might "help" for those who like to browse the phone or play with the car infotainment, those people who are easily distracted. But ACC will not prevent a rear end collision if the car in front brakes too hard for your car to react.

I agree and disagree. Yes, there are many situations where humans will be better than the VW ADAS. For example, humans will know when it's better to swerve than to brake or that the plastic bag on the road doesn't require braking or that there's black ice and so speed should be significantly reduced. And, yes, humans can see brake lights in other lanes or cars ahead of the one in front.

But the example you keep giving ("if the car in front brakes too hard") is precisely one where ADAS systems outperform humans and for several reasons: 1) the ADAS can brake in milliseconds; humans take between 0.7 and 1.5 seconds; 2) the ADAS is constantly "watching" and doesn't get distracted; 3) ADAS can apply maximum brake pressure immediately while humans often fail to do so.

Absolutely mental so I guess the name fits. Gas that the next post would rule Musk out of having a driving license.

ah yes. The ol unvetted males trope.

Whatever you are reading or listening to online I suggest you switch it off for a while

Selling my ID3 for an ID4 - is there a way to wipe the infotainment system of my stuff, transfer it across ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭kris_2021

Went to vw dealer to talk about upgrading my 2022 id4 to new id4. But now seriously considering id3 gtx performance. Seriously value for money. Had id3 first and loved it. Anyone went from id4 back to id3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 459 ✭✭Tech_Head

Less space and higher road noise tend to be the main observations. Haven’t had an ID 4 so can’t say for sure myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 478 ✭✭Liam2021

Have Both an id4 and id3 GTX. Did consider trading the id4 for another id3 bus decided not to. Main reason is purely down to the car sizes and totally different to drive in a good way. Id3 is perfect for myself but when I'm out and about with the family prefer the id4 for space. No differance in road noise.
