Wasps have already applied to join the second tier. They won't be put into the Premiership.

Wasps are in a similar "phoenix club" situation to LI. Someone bought their trademarks and intellectual property from the administrators of the failed company and is trying to revive them as a Championship club near their original base in Kent.

There are enough old club blazers and RFU backers who want to see their old club names back to make this happen no matter how unfair/wrong it seems. All it takes is enough cash.

The refereeing standard in URC is getting to a worrying low level. Watched a half each of Munster and Ulster and full Connacht game. Referees were poor in all games. Davidson is usually decent but thought she missed a good bit this week.

Don’t know what the answer is, the younger crop coming through seem to be worse than the bunch there a few years. Andrew Brace is the only consistently decent referee in the league.

Being honest I think the rugby public need to cut them some slack at this stage. People need to accept that they won't always be perfect and on occasion will have bad games. The rules are constantly changing and there's certain areas in the game that can be open to interpretation, its a tough job. The comments under every other game result these days seems to be about the refs and not the teams. We won't have a younger crop soon if the level of scrutiny continues.

    +1

And fans are generally one-eyed and only see what's happening with their team and invariably their gripes stem from inadequate knowledge of the laws of the game. There was huge discussion of Dupont's pass over his head against Wales where a very high proportion were convinced it was forward, despite the fact that at all times until the ball was grounded, Dupont was well ahead of the ball.

Yeah, I don't think refs are getting worse, fans are just getting more and more intolerant of decisions they don't like. I've never once seen someone go through a ref's performance pointing out all the decisions they get right in a split-second.

Two away wins on the bounce for Zebre! Exciting stuff. I thought I read somewhere that their move was off? Hopefully they stay put and keep building for the rest of the season

I think the itoje push in the lineout to put Ireland 13-10 up is an excellent example of that. I watched it live. I watched a replay and saw nothing. I watched it again and saw the itoje push on the jumper. Ben o Keefe clearly does his homework, saw something live that I didn't see after replays, the commentators didn't see after replays and got the correct decision in a split second.

    It was excellent refereeing

From the few bits I read afterwards O'Keeffe had already told Itoje that they were closing the gap too much. He was always on thin ground and being watched so it was poor play by Itoje to risk it.

I think the refereeing standards in the URC are actually better than we had in the Pro 14 or Pro 16. Anyone who supported a weaker team always knew they'd get an inexperienced or weak referee for most of their home games.

The extremely precise directives and constant video review has conditioned supporters to be one eyed and blame the referee more than ever. I always expect to see clips and screenshots after games that degenerate into pointless arguments.

The abuse the referees get goes well beyond acceptable support at times too.

One of the 10 replays from 10 different angles will show each teams supporters what they want to see so every decisions is a wrong one. Terrible ref.. etc

Second of the three “make up” games this weekend, from Round 9:

Sat 12 noon Bulls v Lions Prem 1.

Reminder of the standings. As mentioned, Bulls and Lions playing their delayed match this weekend, so Bulls will be caught up. Lions and Sharks still have to play their delayed match so they will each still have a game in hand after this weekend.

10-14 looks interesting, as bad as they have been a playoff spot still possibly there for Connacht should they lift themselves for the last few rounds. Realistically Zebra and Dragons the only ones with nothing to play for.

Even 5-14 are only separated by 8 points.

I just did a quick check on what impact the bonus points are having up till now, just out of curiosity.

The top 8 stays the same, possibly just Scarlets going 6 with Cardiff and Benetton moving down 1 spot, but still top 8.

Lions and Ospreys jump to 9 and 10 respectively, Edinburgh, Stormers and Connacht down 2 spots each, but bottom 3 stays the same.

Bulls beat Lions today. Bulls now on 11 matches while Lions still have a match in hand.

Bennetton's coach stepping down at the end of the year. Bit of a surprise I thought they were doing well this season balancing Europe and keeping in playoff hunt for URC

Brex is off to France next season and there is murmurings of a few more players getting offers. Be a pity if they get gutted again

    Saturday

Three wins on the bounce for Zebre. Jaysus.

Only four teams in the league with a record better than .500 currently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 307 ✭✭darkened_scrum

Feels kind of hard to overstate how bad Munster were yesterday. Edinburgh's previous result was a home loss to Zebre, but they were by a mile the better team yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,086 ✭✭✭Jump_In_Jack

Zebre have moved up to 10th, that’s truly amazing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,567 ✭✭✭niallm77

Sharks 14-0 down to the Lions after 20. It's raining heavy now too so that's bad news for Connacht.

Good news for Munster so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,567 ✭✭✭niallm77

Stormers have beaten the bulls. Bulls got LBP

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 36,093 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

Aaaand straight back down to 15th.

Connacht up 8 places into the playoff positions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 623 ✭✭✭bingobango12

Connacht are 12th no? Unless my app hasn’t updated correctly.

4th-14th is very close. Think Lions and Stormers will both make it with 4 home fixtures each remaining.

Sharks with a game in hand and only on the road for 2 games will be fine.

Would have said Munster should be ok but looking at their fixtures, bar probably Ulster at home, you wouldn’t be 100% confident of a win in any others.

Final spot could be anyone’s. Edinburgh have decent fixtures remaining which might see them sneak in.

6 points separate the 10 teams between 6th and 15th, 9 teams have won 5 out of 12 matches.
