Not all. The 51d and 69x are not included. But is there any reason why not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,618 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

Because their not Bus Connected so they don't exist. At least that's the view of the NTA.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭p_haugh

Ah yes, forgot those 2 still existed seperate to the Busconnects ones!

I'm pretty sure the 69X is part of the 69 bill so moving terminus out to UCD would be messy.

Yes, Heuston not currently a pick-up stop. Also they are all completely packed at Heuston already - most won't have capacity to make up for the 145 in any meaningful way. Many won't have room even for one at that stage.

Exactly so why on earth did NTA and Go Ahead make a decision and not speak to the council

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

It’s difficult to find specific detail on this. Dublin Bus have published timetables but no further information. They say “These changes have been coordinated as part of the TFI network”, but there’s nothing on the TFI website to explain.

Some politicians are posting on their social media saying this is to replace the link between Heuston and UCD, so I’m guessing X Services will now change how they pick up and set down.

A TFI communication piece would be helpful.

    Some questions

    • Will there be additional capacity on these routes, many of which are full passing Heuston Station.
    • If these X routes now provide a service between UCD and Heuston then surely this will impact commuters heading home in the evening as buses may have reduced capacity along the quays due to carrying Heuston bound passengers. We know the C Spine is already under pressure.
    • The X Services don’t operate within the 90 Minute fare structure, so are commuters and students now expected to pay separately for services once again? For example, will someone taking the train from Hazelhatch to Heuston for €2 will now need to pay an additional €2.40 on the X service to UCD?

Maybe this could be an opportunity to bring the X Services inside the 90 minute fare and to also provide more information onhow these services run (stop listings, route maps etc).

I think that you can take it as read that they will pick up now at Heuston.

The published timetables have no additional departures on these routes - so frankly it’s just window dressing in terms of capacity.

I can certainly see this causing problems in the evenings for existing C Spine customers who use the city centre starters.

The 90 minute ticket option does work on the X routes but it costs €2.40, so anyone who has paid €2 would pay an additional €0.40 when using the X routes.

That’s handy, I didn’t realise the 90 minute fare was included on X’s albeit a small supplement as such. Thanks for that.

Didn't know the new bus connected X buses came under the Xpresso fare band. Thought that was being done away once bus connects was fully implemented just like the Nitelink.

That's been the case all along.

We don’t know that all of the Nitelinks will vanish either. Some may be retained.

Busconnects isn't going to Ashbourne, the 88N would need a replacement if they killed all non-BCed Nitelink routes.

hasnt it already got a 24 hour route with the 109A?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭p_haugh

I would imagine the nitelinks will be kept in some form. Even when the A-spine launches, the Cabinteely→Sandyford Village leg of the 46N would still need to be covered off. Similar with the 84N past Bray all the way out to Kilcoole. They'd also provide extra capacity along the spines at weekends (I read somewhere that the drivers that used to do the 39N duties effectively still do the same duties still - they start at Aston Quay and go to Blanchardstown, before running special back into town)

Bigger question: why is there a Nitelink that serves as far as Ashbourne? Did Dublin Bus used to operate a route 88 that went there back in the days?

Actually could see it discontinued if they decide to make the 24 route 24 hours, or modify one of F spine routes to serve that area of East Finglas at night

I was more talking about the fare difference as opposed to the routes themselves. Would've thought the 90 minute fare would put an end to Xpresso and Nitelink fares.

Can understand the logic keeping the Xpresso fare as I guess it discourages people using the Xpresso to do short hops. But if they're keeping the Nitelink then they should make it the same fares as the daytime fare and you should also be able to pick up Nitelink routes at any bus stop.

Where possible the routes should run 7 nights a week and ideally in both directions but obviously I understand that's not always possible so Friday/Saturdays is acceptable but can't understand the logic in having different fares and only picking up at certain stops. Harks back to the days of the Nitelink being a commercial service.

Could always make the 88 a 24 hour route to cover for the 46N. Perhaps a night only variant of the E spine could be introduced eventually to serve Greystones also a night variant of the B spine to serve Dalkey. We've already seen the C5 and C6.

Fully agree in regards to the Nitelink being part of the 90 minute fares. While no longer a commercial operation (I believe?), it is still technically ran separately to the main PSO services - which means no real-time tracking. If they are kept around post BC rollout they should really be fully integrated.

And yes, they should pick-up at all stops, or at least make the pick-up points more frequent. The amount of times I've been on a 46n and people flag it down on the likes of Leeson Street, only for the bus to barrel past them. I've had some drivers who've let people on, but only if they were stopping at that particular stop anyways.

I was referring to the fare difference on the Express routes. That has been there all along.

I can understand the premium charged but as I pointed out it does offer the 90 minutes travel.

It's like as the outer rail fares - EUR 3.50 fare but still offers 90 minutes travel.

As far as Nitelink is concerned, we will have to just wait and see what develops.

Reading from the earlier in the thread, I've noticed that someone has mentioned about the A-spine that is supposed to launch in April. Have we got an info on this?

There are no confirmed dates as everything is dependent on staff resources being in place.

The next phase is the O, followed by F, D, A, B and finally the Ranelagh radials.

I doubt that we will see anything happening until the summer with the O.

Lol, just reminded when I got the 88n home to Finglas a good few years ago. Bus driver decided to shout something, which I didn't understand due to my drunken state, and turned out he was asking if he could skip the Finglas West/South part of the journey, so I ended up in Ashbourne.

Plenty of snoozing inebriated Nitelink passengers have ended up at end of destination over the years! 😃 Do drivers who are supposed to drive straight back to city centre the quickest way oblige and drop them off at their intended stops on return journey, I wonder?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,658 ✭✭✭Qrt

depends really, the 77n would be my route, but my normal bus would be the 27. Sometimes I’ll ask the driver to swing down Fortunestown Lane and let me off but failing that it’s only a 15 min walk.

The bigger issue is drivers not doing a once over of the bus before going back into town/the depot, got a nasty telling off by one cos I’d fallen asleep and realised two stops after the terminus, it’s 3am on a Saturday night/Sunday morning like, what do you expect 🤣

All the Nitelink and Expresso routes (except for the BusConnects X27, X28 etc. routes) are underrated. People only only try the 24hrs services rather than trying new services.

Got a post midnight E2 for the first time on Thursday night at around 1:30am and it was like getting on a 46N, only a couple seats going free upstairs! Good to see good use of it so quickly
