great info. thanks for sharing. do you leave it charged to 100% for few hours before driving it off ? im coming off the idea that LFP batteries shouldn't be left too long fully charged and should be fully charged only once a week to avoid long term battery degradation. and btw 142Wh per km is damn impressive.

do you also happen to have consumption numbers for winter drive?

I charge at work so can taper down the charge rate, will be at 100% twice a week for a few hours then immediately driven home

Absolutely ripped off here in the south , however I agree with the comments hassle

Anyway I will purchase another ev in the coming weeks up north registered in the north and it will not be a tesla I'm afraid

That was a quick change of heart from yesterday when you were looking at a Tesla and debating the merits of difference between a AWD and LR . Best of luck. Be careful that whatever you buy is not a car imported to N Ire from UK and sold on as Revenue are very specific to prevent this scenario from being exploited to avoid VAT at point of registration in Ireland.

    Big time

That's me all over I'm afraid...going to go for a cheaper alternative ev.

Hopefully it all works out..since the early 2000's I have imported cars from uk, however times have changed for sure.

Wife has a leaf and my house is fully electric with plenty of back up batteries etc...

I just put a question on the app and it seems Tesla assumes it's an external charger issue rather than anything to do with the car.

In any case it also suggests that if this problem exists for ac charging the car won't DC charge at all. Anyone with this issue have a problem with DC charging? I can get away with 3kwh ac charging in the short term but it would be disastrous to head on a long journey only to get stranded because the car couldn't DC charge. A bit of a confidence sapper!

How are we ripped off here in the South? You said you were looking for a Tesla. Tesla’s are significantly cheaper to buy here than in the UK. And for the most part we don’t even pay VRT on EV’s here. So your comment simply isn’t true. You can forget about the past because importing from the UK isn’t viable anymore and you will soon realise that NI is a tiny overpriced market compared to the UK. You’ll be much better off just lowballing/negotiating with a private seller here instead.

a week or so. Once registered it takes a day or 2 for the national database to update. After that it’s up to the insurance companies to update their database or the company that supplies that info. Could be longer could be less.

can anyone please comment on how to tax after taking the delivery. I don't have the pin or any document related to registration or tax when collecting the car.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,300 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Same as any other new car.
reg number and last 6 digits of the vin.

Once taxed you’ll get the log book in the post after a week or so.

I finally installed the S4XY commander today. Have to say it was awkward enough to get the long panel back far enough for the install.

Other than enabling autopilot after lane change what are people using theirs for?

I'm half tempted to mount an old phone behind the wheel to use the Speedo and lane warnings etc for a while.

Continuous autopilot, disable auto-highbeam and disable auto-wipers have been a godsend for me on my motorway commutes with the dark evenings. Reminds me how AP was before Tesla Vision was introduced.

    Also use

    • Autopilot penalty prevention (both settings)
    • Open frunk with door handle
    • Disable honk on open
    • Park if unbuckled
    • Safe bluetooth connect enabled for added security with the commander.

Does this forum cover the highland? If it does, can anyone tell me what sort of long term consumption your getting after approx 1 year in this irish climate? ideally short run usage with little to no motorways.

A Model 3 is a Model 3, and we don't discriminate by age round here…

Below 15 kWh/100km most owners seem to report in general driving.

That will go up for motorway speed and lower lower speeds. Some have got 10 kWh/100km.

I'm at 9,000 km since July, so only reporting on 7 months but spanning from summer to winter. The car is today self reporting 138 Wh/km since new (standard Highland RWD with LFP battery). Caveats: Roughly half is commuting via M50, half is stop-start tootling round Dublin with just a few long/motorway trips. Also, other than when new and just to confirm I can do it if I wanted to, I've had no desire or need for overly aggressive acceleration and just do "normal" driving at approx the speed limit or the speed of the car in front.

Consumption obviously got worse from summer to winter but overall it's averaging remarkably close to the claimed amount and I think the full first 12 months will beat that. I don't ever expect to go 100%-1% in a day but I have no reason to doubt the full tank >500km range is achievable over the entire warmer half of the year.

Biggest deviation from that is the hit from the car standby-ing and warming up in winter which can use a noticeable and not insignificant amount of battery. It always drops a few % between parking at night and driving out the next morning, especially if warming is "scheduled". I didn't notice any such loss in the summer but I'm guessing in the coldest weeks (Dublin cold, not Siberia cold), over 30% of a "tank" would be lost over a week due to consumption while not driving (if driving a little every day). This is separate from any reduced driving efficiency in the cold but unlike that, the range hit from this is almost totally avoidable if one was to stay plugged until driving away from the house. I don't know whether this effect is measured in any of the official or semi-official tests but I'm happy to accept it and sit into my nice warm car every morning.

In the winter I've addressed this by usually charging twice a week to keep enough buffer to always have a couple of days range instead of once a week which was working out comfortably for me in the summer. So, while the car might validly claim >400km range when at 100% in winter, by the time I've warmed it up at 7am every day, I'm not getting that. But I don't need to do the full 400-500km in a day and if I did, I'd have bought the Long Range and would charge it appropriately.

    TLDR : I'm at 13.8kWh/100km

Hi, that’s my exact driving habits most short distance with little motor way driving. I’m not far off 1 years usage bought the car in March 2024.

I’ve covered 7193km to date and I’m currently at 13.2kWh/100km. Love the car.

You are doing well with overall 138 Wh/km and seem happy. The figures quoted by Tesla in Europe are WLTP 518km and this is not indicative of real world expectations but follows a standard test used by all car manufacturers and serves the purpose of being able to make direct comparisons. For more specific details as to how battery energy is being consumed the in built Energy App on the Tesla gives great insights as to what is consuming energy (driving, Climate, Preconditioning etc) Best part is that you are enjoying your car!

    I'm at 15.2kWh/100km since 21st August 7750kms.

Cork City & suburbs, school run & work commute is a mixture of 50/80/100/120. Direct work route is 100/120 but less than 15km distance one way.

Averaging about 320km per week plugging in 2 nights a week to go from ~20% back up to 90+.

Heavy enough right foot at times 🙈

Thanks everyone for info on consumption. I currently have a Cupra Born and average 16.5kwh/100km over the year. Most of that is small school runs on semi rural roads. On cold mornings this rockets as I think it has to heat the battery and then comes down towards the end of the trip. Model 3 seems way more efficient.

I kinda counted the Model 3 out due to the lack of indicator stalks.I simply cannot fathom who in Tesla though this was a good idea, especially in Europe with roundabouts. But i'm having second thoughts since i seen the s3xy stalks, knobs and buttons. They look like just the thing.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,300 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I’d I had to buy a highland M3, first thing I’d buy is the stalk too. They also do a paddle set up to select between the different drive modes.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,828 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

just about to hit 72,000kms (on a pre highland, 222) and i'm averaging 14.7kWh/100km.

    Happy with that.

Lack of stalk doesn’t bother me at all but you’d have to assume once the new Y lands that the 3 will then get the stalk back, can’t see Tesla continuing to make 2 different steering wheels & column covers etc. They’ll probably just switch it back and say nothing. They’ll just start arriving with a stalk. It will of course limit the market of the earlier cars that don’t have stalks as some people just can’t seem to see past it or even try it!
