ordered a new jacket from M&S for €120 euros with a €50 euro voucher I received as a Christmas gift. I recalled whilst about to complete the transaction that the same relation gave me the same gift last year too that I didn’t get around to spending, so I only needed to spend 20 euros of my own money to acquire quite a cool looking jacket.

One positive of the storm was I got time to fix my faulty headlight and even got a retest instantly by calling into local NCT……..and passed.

had something on my to do list that I couldn’t remember earlier but like a bolt of lightning…..🤪. im seeking out a few torches tomorrow. Was underprepared for the power outage and only had a few hardly working old torches bordering on antiques and either way at the lower end of the quality spectrum.

Tomorrow I’m gonna grab a couple of new big quality ones, will be forgetting about USB ones as you won’t be recharging them in a hurry during a power outage… so 🤞…. from my scouting days, be prepared or prepare to fail is my revisited motto.

My nephew, who is a carer for his mum, spent quite some time with us while their house was both electric and broadband free. He got a wash on and was able to get some down time in "our" house. He messaged me this morning to say they are reconnected. He was so grateful and happy(as am I) that he had a space available that had heat and facilities where they could spend time!

Lovely to see youngsters grateful for the everyday facilities that most ppl take for granted.

Th that being brought up in a recession/strike-ridden political climate showed us the nb of having things like matches and cash so we could survive if we were electricity free for a few days.

Those Austrian Electricity lads tearing off in the car to help the ESB lads. I was thinking fair play, and not only that he was almost embarrassed they stopped for four 20 minute breaks driving through Seven countries!🤔

Check out an app called Skyview Lite. It’s fantastic for checking the positions of stars and planets in the sky. I often use it in the back yard at night while letting my dogs out to do their final toilet business before bed.

I have to get regular blood tests due to some medication I'm on, and went this morning. The feeling is usually between a light scratch and "frickin' OUCH", but today's was … nothing. I literally did not feel the needle going in. I told the nurse this and I think it made her day.

I've been told that I have good veins, to which my reply is something like "so don't screw them up, thanks!"

hot dogs from the local butcher for dinner. Closest I’ve experienced to a New York hotdog since I’ve been over there. Ones I’ve bought elsewhere here from supermarkets to standalone deli’s were always too tough, too rubbery, too small or in particular being a bit bland lacking that smoked NY flavour. This butcher though nailed it and not extortionate either price-wise. I even had a jar of sauerkraut so the experience was nice and filling and flavourful.

There's also Heavens Above which shows you satellites.

Once on holidays I got to see both the ISS and Tiangong at the same time.

Sorting through some clothes today, I'm sending some trousers to recycling because they no longer fit me: they're too big. I've on a gentle no-stress weight-loss strategy for about 6 months now, and I'm down about 10kg of mass and 2" off the waist. Still some way to go to "normal", but it's nice to see progress after years of thinking I was stuck where I was.

I postponed scanning in my medical receipts for ages and ages but I finally got it done over Christmas but sent the payment to the wrong account. While I wasn't happy with the amount refunded that's my fault and forgot about it.

As I was bored on Sunday, I went online bargain-shopping, checked the card today and the total online shopping was the same as the refund!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I need a lift, I'm taking that as my purchases are prepaid and kind of free. A bit "imaginative" I know but I'm going with it for now.

Little girl in swimming with her granny. The Granny had set up a game where she would "race" her.

The girl says to Granny "What's that over there?" and off she goes giggling while swimming away.

The days after the storm a men's shed in one of the areas I work went out and made kindling from the smaller twigs/branches that had fallen in the storm. Sold them in local businesses or took orders over their phones for ppl who were trapped in their homes. 😊

I went to buy kindling from a men's shed earlier in the week. The guy behind the counter was smoking.

    Little kids logic -

Brother (aged 8) and sister (aged 6) - in conversation.

Brother - Announces: "More people die at sea, than die in space"

Sister (Looking scared) - "I don't want to go to space, because I can't swim!!!"

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Absolutely. I thought that was a great movie & by the end, couldn't wait for them to release a follow up movie.

Doubt it's ever going to happen though 😔

There's something comforting about being around someone who understands your need for silence & space. You don't have to fill the air with words or explanations, they just get it..
