Slept on it, 7 points clear with a healthy GD on Arsenal so it could be a lot worse. Truth is we didn’t play very well and once again the occasion got to the team and for a team with a lot of international captains it’s a bit of a worry I won’t lie. A draw over all was a “fair” result, ref was sh!te but nothing new there. How we respond to it all is the big thing now, need to go for the jugular on Sunday against Wolves and need a statement performance, onwards!!

Is it me or should Alisson do better for the first goal? Once Beto lets that ball run across him, he's obviously going to go for the far side of the goal. I think he's slower to get down to shots these days in my mind.

I think Trent should block the cross but we don't deal with it when it comes in either.

For me, our season should not hang on our result at Goodison Park. It's always a hard game, curse of having 2 teams in the same City. As long as we make up for it at Anfield and move on.

how is Oliver still allowed to ref our games? There’s going to be a scandal about his bias someday

have a mate who’s an arsenal fan, they’re the weirdest fan base, they seem to constantly celebrate us dropping points like it’s a win for them. But they can’t even pull a string of wins together. They’ll drop points at forest, United and chelsea. They didn’t sign a striker and Havertz, Jesus and Martinelli are out for the rest of the season. Meanwhile, Saka’s out till April and odegaard only has 2 goals and 3 assists. Can’t see them scoring many goals, they’ll be still depend on that one dimensional set piece.

John Heitinga to be on the line for us on Sunday apparently.

Aside from the obvious defensive issues, I do not understand why Slot persisted with Diaz up front for so long. He was absolutely hopeless and offered nothing at all.

Immediately improved when moved out wide, but still, I am growing weary of Diaz phoning it in.

The only thing I was thinking was that Everton play with 2 big CB's and another even bigger CB at RB

So those sorts of players would likely prefer to face a Núñez who they'd feel they can bully a bit and certainly beat in the air rather than a trickster like Díaz who would run at them

When it came time to take someone off I don't think there was much between Gakpo and Díaz, I thought Gakpo was at least equally ineffective

How exactly is Diaz phoning it in? Maybe the player is just out of form and is been played out of position? We are top of the league by 7 points. Surely you can find something positive to say? All you seem to do is berate the players/team and post when we fail to win or are struggling a bit.

Diaz probably more than most struggles against the low block in terms of attacking output, his general play remains fairly solid, but goals and assists for him do seem to dry up against the low block teams, he'll have a big part to play against Newcastle, Villa, and City, who will all come to get 3 points.

How many times did he give away a free kick because he just decided to run straight into the defender? Was it 3?

What did he offer going through the middle? Literally nothing. Wasn't even making runs.

Diaz was the wrong choice against Everton. Thier CBs were never going to come out of position when Diaz dropped deep so it was pretty pointless. Nunez gave them something to worry about going the other way when he came on and at least occupied them at times.

Poor Robinson is gone and needs replacing and yes we also need a proper number 9 hopefully isak, sell nunez the donkey and I would sell Diaz too, 3 times he gave away stupid frees just running into the center halves, can't wait to see the back of trent either, lad has no interest in defending or even getting his gear dirty, Bradley at least gets stuck in, we need summer reinforcements in midfield too, last night was first time this season I thought gravenberch was poor, hopefully not getting burned out

Slot handed a two many ban for insulating and offensive language directed at Oliver!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,417 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

Granvenberch was poor because Everton completely block his passing lanes. More worrying was we completely looked lost for ideas on how to counter it. He's essential to how we set up and play, and taking him out of the game completely deflated us on the offensive side of things.

Everton set a very simple template on how to stop us, play 2 up top and cut out the passing lanes from our centre backs to the midfield. It's why you saw us resort to so many hopefully 5050 balls from the back.

I'm not sure why Slot didn't try add more width to the game, to try and counter what Everton were doing.

It is his 2nd red card was always going to be a 2 game ban

Main thing is that the lads keep the heads and put this behind them. We didn't give any ground last night, in fact we extended our lead by a point. We are in an excellent position. Beat Wolves on Sunday and hopefully this will be forgotten.

love to hear what Slot said, looked like Oliver had a hissy fit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,497 ✭✭✭robwen

Fairly harmless if this is accurate,

And now Jeremy Freeman, an expert lip reader, has told Sport Bible what he believes Slot said to Oliver to be shown the red card.

“That’s not a push? It’s a f**king disgrace… if you go and watch that again,” Slot exclaimed.

To the other linesman, he sarcastically said: “Well done.”

Just before shaking hands with Oliver, again, sarcastically, he said: “Great game.”

After the red card, the Liverpool boss added: “Sure, you give me a red for that? I will check it out for later… me and you yeah? Sure give me a red card… we’ll talk after?”

Hard to say it's accurate alright but quite mild if so, but they are all quite precious these days.

Back in the day, the refs got far worse from players and managers, but certainly there was a line that couldnt be crossed. Elleray, for example, said it was if the word 'cheat' or some derivation was used.

David Lynch has said that the 2 match ban isn’t true.

They are currently reviewing the match report.

Annoyed with losing the 3 points at the end and the circumstances giving the added extra time but looking at Everton, they have done it to most of the "better teams":

    Everton 0 - Newcastle 0

    Everton 1 - Fulham 1

    Everton 0 - Brentford 0

    Arsenal 0 - Everton 0

    Everton 0 - Chelsea 0

    Man City 1 - Everton 1

    Everton 3 - Spurs 2

    Brighton 0 - Everton 1

They still have Arsenal to play at Goodison although I don't expect the same effort from them in that one somehow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,666 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Not to mention that we almost never win at Goodison in recent times. 2 wins there in the last 12 years across all competitions.

Everton will roll over to get their bellies tickled against Arsenal.

There’s no question that Gakpo was less effective than Diaz. Diaz was at least trying his heart out, whereas Gakpo never got into the game at all. Probably his worse game since taking up the wing spot, but im sure normal service will resume next time. There are numpties who seem to always blame Diaz and Nunez no matter what happens.

I was quite content with our first half performance, but disappointed with our midfield more than anything in the second. In saying that, while goal chances were few and far between in the 2nd half, Diaz, Jones, Nunez and Mo conjured up a lovely goal between them and Everton hardly had a chance, and we were seeing out the game fine. Given the circumstances (foul on Mo, foul on Konate, marginal offside decision, additional time pulled from somewhere, fantatstic finish by Tarkowski), we were a tad unlucky not to hold on.

Onwards we go. 7 points clear. Plenty of ups and downs to come im sure

At the moment I think as Pool fans that we give Arsenal too much credit; they have won one FA Cup in 6 years.

There is no reason to think that they are going to win say 12 of their last 14 games given they have won 14 in their first 24 games. If they do then fair play to them.

I still think anything over 80pts should win the title. At our current rage of PPG we are on target for 90pts whilst Arsenal are on target for 79pts.
