Are you sure about selling? Eddi would be a perfect means to exploit flexible electricity plans when they are introduced this year. To give an example, I have a 360l hot water cylinder, which can store about 20kWh of heat (from 12C intake to max of 63C)

When electricity prices go negative, you can heat your water and get paid for doing so., With a negative price of say €0.20 (regularly more than that in the UK) lasting 7 hours (think very windy night), you get a full tank of water for free, and make a €4 profit on it too

Are the agile tariffs happening this year though? First I've heard word of it myself.

I don't have as large a water tank as that and don't need one as large. I also don't have batteries either, so don't know if I would be better off on an agile tariff.

Have PV and an EV. Currently selling all export and charging EV/Heating water at night rate for 6c a unit.

You can realistically only go on an agile tariff if you have battery. At least as long as we don't have proper V2G systems in place!

Hello all, looking for opionions on how much a Pylontech US5000 might be worth:

    256 cycles

    9 - 10 Months old

    99% health

A bunch of them sold recently on this forum for about €700 each. They were brand new, never installed. Any reason you want to buy these? They are bottom of the pile in terms of build quality. They use multiple cheap pouches of cells in parallel, rather than just one sturdier prismatic cell

Thanks for the reply, not looking to buy, looking to sell 😂

I want to go the Seplos route. might keep the Pylontech if I can get it to work with the seplos….

Ah I wasn't helping your sale there, sorry 😂

And yes, as long as you setup your DIY battery in a 15S setup (instead of the usual 16S), then you can parallel your new battery to your existing Pylontech no problem. And the one good thing about Pylontech is their warranty. From what I heard it seems to be pretty no-quibble

First time poster long term lurker here! I intend adding 15kw of lifepo4 batteries to my 6kw solar system. I have a Dyness Bx51000 5kw battery already and was wondering if this would work in parallel with the new lifepo4 battery? If not I'll be looking to sell the dyness here hopefully. Its 1.5 yrs old don't know how many cycles but I'll get that info before i put it up for sale here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,114 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Yes no probs. Dyness sell both 15S and 16S packs, so gotta be careful to match that. From the model number, I reckon your one is a 16S, but do double check that

Thanks a mill for coming back on this unkel, all your posts are always very helpful and informative. I'll dig out the battery manual and see if its 16S, hopefully it is👍️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,555 ✭✭✭championc

The pack voltage, when charged, should confirm it. If it goes above about 53v then it must be 16s. When starting to discharge, full cells will be 3.4v, so multiply by 15 for the max of a 15s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,114 ✭✭✭✭unkel

The "51" in the name would usually indicate the capacity as in 5.1kWh, calculated as 3.2V nominal per cell * 100Ah capacity of the cell * 16 in series = 5.1kWh

The 15S probably has something like "48" in the name

Thanks for the info guys, I found the battery details, its a Dyness BX51100 which has a capacity of 5.1 kw. I can't find the battery manual the installers gave me but looking online i see this description of the BX51100, as it mentions 48V i presume this is a 15S. if so I guess this won't work with my new lifepo4 batteries?

    Dyness BX51100 - 48V 5.1kWh Lithium Battery

No, see my explanation / calculation. 5.1kWh means it is 99.9% certain a 16S battery. "48V" is just a generic term to describe any battery with a nominal voltage of somewhere in the 35-60V range 😁
