E boost cupra is 231bhp, gtx is 326bhp and also has a bigger battery. Gtx will be a good few thousand more but probably seen as good value. About 6k more maybe.

Cupra the better looking car inside and out to most people's eyes but that's subjective as always.

For my money, as a cupra born owner, I'd probably go with the vw gtx to be honest even if a bit dearer. Not for the power alone, the born has plenty enough, but a combination of the power and range. But its a close call which is the better value

Would tend to agree- Cupra is better appointed inside and looks more angled and interesting outside although that's down to personal taste. I would think that the e boost is fast enough for most people. However if you want the bigger battery/range and more power then the GTX with it's low pricing (versus what you might expect) represents really good value.

Within the id3 range, the gtx is an absolute no brainer unless you run into insurance difficulties or something

Look at the charging curve on the little one. Excellent.

Anybody know how vw are when trading in tesla? The gtx performance seems an ideal replacement.

What's cabin noise like at motorway speed?

what were you coming from? I tried a gti pre face lift and found it very noisy. I had a lexus gs at the time, that was very quite. Not expecting those levels but would be good if its better than the model 3 at motorway speeds.

I came from an id3 1st. The id's are very quiet and very little road noise. Also have an id4. Love the range and can't fault them

Id.3 interior is much improved recently. Exterior is bland for me but better than before whereas cupra is a bit too boy racer for me. There is a cupra parked beside my car and it is a bit too much for me so I have ordered an id.3. cupra born is supposed to have drag coefficient of .272 while facelift Id3 is .263 and that is worth a few Km extra distance at motorway speeds.

Ev database shows same projected range for both cars at 360km - I doubt that the difference is significant. Drag force is dept on velocity squared - hence the speed you're going on the motorway will be the major factor on what range you get. That being said, to each his own.

At 130 kmph the lower coefficient with same frontal area yields about 3.3% better result based on a calculator I found online. A Tesla model 3 would be mediocre if not for that low .21 drag coefficient.

Test drove the smaller battery one today. Was pretty good i must say and the interior was nice. I remember sitting in one when they first came out and thinking it was horrible.

Trading the tesla in is a no go. Will need to sell myself or hand it back. Either way I'll be taking a hit.

I assume you mean you’ve asked VW - did they even make an offer on it?

they’d be reselling it out the back door asap to the trade, just like Tesla do with their own cars

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 926 ✭✭✭Zurbaran

The guy said it would be around 5k under what they were going for online. It didn't go any further than that as I knew it wasn't going to work out.

Going to have to sell myself or give it back. I could keep it of course but fancy a change and with the dog I could use a hatch. Was looking at the xpeng g6 but with the 3k dealer addon and 4.9% that is out.

I'm sure you're right and if 3% matters to you go for it! I tend to stick within the speed limits and on the motorway I set my speed at 105 kmh as I prefer to preserve the battery range over shaving off a few minutes on trip time.

So Born owners just need to drive at 120kph then and not worry about the 3% reduction in range :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,984 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Exactly. Range is for nervous people.

Use the car as it was intended!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,759 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

A few gusts of wind or an unexpected braking or stopping at traffic lights won't be long making up that 3% gap !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 466 ✭✭Ev fan

Correct- the difference in drag profiles is very small - 2% I think and if you're going at 120kph the difference in efficiencies between both cars will equally be very small. As we all have experienced the difference in efficiencies at 120kph and say at 100kph for both cars individually will be very significant

For any prospective GTX owners, the 320hp Born VZ pricelist is now €41,900 OTR.

I said that a few months ago it would drop hugely, they did the same with the eboost when it came out first pricing it in the 60s.

The vz was untouchable at 60k with the gtx out

I'm glad though, it's a car that deserves to sell in my opinion

    Where do you see that?

The cupra website has these, which shows €47k….?

Irish Seat dealers must’ve been kicking up an absolute stink with VAG.

It probably means VAG can see the GTX is selling at the Irish price - let’s see if the other European markets come down too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,759 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

That's now the pick of the born range like gtx is in the id3....really good value proposition now. The seats are gorgeous as well as more range and more power plus nice wheel designs etc....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 926 ✭✭✭Zurbaran

hmm, was going to order one of these next week.. Now need to consider the cupra. Any thoughts on what to go for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,414 ✭✭✭KCross

they are much the same car/tech. It’s really down to which car you prefer the look of.

The Cupra is still slightly more expensive and doesn’t have HUD but very little between them really. Personal taste.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 926 ✭✭✭Zurbaran

Looks like no travel assist or heads up unless optioned. Colours cost more and no matrix lights even as an option.

With no options it is coming out as 100 more than what I have the gtx specced as.

GTX doesn’t have travel assist by default either, it’s an optional extra.

I wasn’t sure if the cupra had matrix lights. They are supposed to be excellent on the id.3.

The looks are very different in both cars. I think the seats are supposed to be better in the cupra but that can be subjective too.
