Tyler Morton out of the match on Sunday with shoulder injury which is a pity

probably guess McConnell, Endo, and Elliott in midfield so. Unless Gomez isn't ready to start yet and Endo's thrown into CB again.

To be honest watching Bradley last night and if we buy Kerkez, I have no issues with Trent leaving. Definitely should be giving the other two sorted though. Best in the world at their positions. Sign up the two boys, Kerkez and a defensive midfielder in the summer and we will challenge again next year.

Final is set for March 16th, nice bank holiday weekend for us

Yeah I think that's fair. Really it's the game context that brings the atmosphere more than anything

My observation above was based on my experiences immediately before Covid through to now and it's a definite difference but there's also this valid point that the atmosphere also ebbs and flows and sometimes you just catch lightning in a game and it kicks off.

Leicester in the League Cup a few seasons back in December is a good example - people weren't going into the game thinking it was going to be a cracker, if anything it was a bit of a break from the 'bigger' games. But then the game is amazing, their fans start chanting at us and giving it the big one as they were 2 goals up, twice! We get the last minute equaliser, 3-3, and then win penalties taken at their end. Insane night that was likely the best atmosphere that season without anyone predicting that on paper, game context just made it that way.

If I was to name the top 3 best atmospheres I've seen I'd be picking a game in 1996, a game in 2001 and a game in 2019 so it's not tied to a specific time when atmosphere was at it's peak, but instead those were games that just caught that lightning and Anfield reacted

Szoboszlai didn't have a real break in the summer. He went to the Euros with the Hungarian national team and arrived for pre-season training at Kirkby less than two weeks after they were eliminated from the tournament. The other players that had been on international duty didn't meet up with the squad until the pre-season tour of the USA which was 3 or 4 weeks later. That's the reason that Slot gave for why Szoboszlai was the most rotated midfield player in the early part of the season.

I thought Darwin was excellent last night, and he's not getting much credit here. He pressed and defended well when he had to, he stretched the defence when he could, and he worked well in the tight spaces against the packed defence. Some of his little touches were excellent, flicks in tight spaces to keep the pace of attack up and didn't give the ball away hardly at all. Pity he was fouled, he'd 100% have scored if he wasn't fouled 😏.

No, he gets rode here at times, but he was excellent last night and just because his name wasn't on the scoreheet doesn't mean he doesn't deserve some kudos.

I'd be signing a right back even if Trent goes. You will need support there as a back up / challenger to Bradley as you don't know how he'll take the pressure of being the main starter week in week out.

I think DM has shifted slightly, Gravenberch is nailed on the main man there for Slot for years to come, as long as he stays healthy. So you'll be just looking to replace Endo with a reliable back up that Slot likes the cut of.

Pre-match press conference. Slot explained that Alisson had played the first leg of the Semi-Final against Tottenham to get him match sharp. Morton is going to be out for a few weeks with a shoulder injury. Alexander-Arnold is likely to miss the Everton game. He dodged the contracts questions and banged the expand the domestic match day squad to 23 players drum again at the end.

Ya, I'd imagine it will be the most rotated role in Slot system moving forward. Its such a hugely demanding role, the ground he's covering these days is just ridiculous.

to be fair there were a good few that noted his performance. I was going to post about it but I didn’t bother as there were at least 4 or 5 stats posters doing so.
I do think he seemed much sharper and on it last night. Didn’t dally on the ball too much.

But you have to consider it was spurs and a really poor version of them too.

There were 8 or 9 fine performers last night.

    One of those nights

Joshua Kimmich could be a potential signing on a free transfer. He has the experience to replace Endo in the midfield rotation with Gravenberch and he can also fill in at right back. The question is would FSG sanction signing a 30 year old on a big contract.

Depends on how much he's on. They signed Thiago in the season he turned 30.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,851 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

They've done it once which makes it plausible they'd do it again. Or….
They did it once, got financially burned with minimal return on pitch so will be wary.
    Take your pick.

I don't think they'll be put off because of Thiago

If they were, they wouldn't have spent £16m on a 30 year old Endo

The important thing is whether the player will be a good fit or not. There's a perception that moneyball has to consider future sale value which has nothing to do with it

Surely if Slot wins the title he will have some power to go to the board and demand something. Obviously there's a budget but we haven't signed anyone really this season so there's got to be some money to spend.

I think we'll see a good few signings this summer, maybe 4 or 5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,752 ✭✭✭Talisman

I could definitely see 3, possibly 4 signings. What would be the 5 positions you see being strengthened?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,028 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Right back, left back/centre back, 2 attackers and a surprise

The surprise being a defensive midfielder? 😂

Every good list to Santa has to end with "a surprise" 😋

Would love to sign, gueli from palace, kerkez, isak, back up Right back to Bradley as trent is gone, kimmich, and another winger as think Diaz could be sold along with nunez, endo, kelleher, and maybe gomez but I hope we keep him and most of I hope salah and van dyke stay

    Millwall 2 up against Leeds

He is on 375k a week currently, difficult to see him as a Liverpool signing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,972 ✭✭✭✭Charlie19

Robbie Fowler has said the draw has already took place and Millwall is now awaiting the either Liverpool or Plymouth in the next round.

    Completely different scenarios.

Thiago: there was a rationale in adding a certain level and style that wasn't already there. It was a shot at a missing piece, free transfer. High, but not extremely high wages.

Endo was a mature head to fill an emergency gap. Low wages.

Kimmich wouldn't necessarily bring something new. He's quality but we're not stuck anymore. His wages would be extremely high. Might not like being rotated at this stage.

I think they'll follow their model like gravenberch, McAllister and sobozlai and look for value.

They're definitely still going to back Jones. Elliott can still look for a position if he has a decent end of season.

Plus Thiago was signed as an important first teamer, or at least that would have been the plan were it not for his injuries. Whereas talk of signing Kimmich on £375k a week to be a back up to Gravenberch would be one of the dumbest signings we have ever made imo. Literally is a recipe for disaster signing someone on "Ozil" type wages to come in and play the cup games and give Gravenberch 10 mins rest at the end of important games once in a blue moon.

Correct me if I'm forgetting someone as I easily could be but I have never seen anyone play the 6 role the way Gravenberch does. His ability to just glide away from players pressing him even when receiving the ball is closer to Zidane than Busquets. He also has an excellent passing range as I'm sure we will see more and more the more established in the team he becomes. I think he is my favourite player in the team to watch now tbh and to think he is only 22 and we could be watching him for years to come is quite exciting. He is just so silky.
