For all the injury concerns I think that ended up being easier than a training session

Yeah Ally McCoist was on ITV (I think) and he had a more generous view, kept just saying that Spurs did what they could but Liverpool were too good. I'd say that's closer to the truth, those players are knackered.

Yep that was McCoist on ITV

I enjoy listening to him. Really just seems to enjoy being out watching a game

Their injuries are the equivalent of us without Ali, Virg, Konate, Robbo, Szob and 3 of our front 5/6. Still, they were poor though. We were superb, relentless and never let them into it at all.

Szob was MOTM for me, he was everywhere, excellent on the ball and his goal was a beaut.

Anyone know what that new chant/song is the fans are singing, can't find it online anywhere.

First half i thought Richarlison and the new CB were very good. After the goal and Richarlison going off it was pretty easy.

It's a classic, an oldie. Gets banged out every time now and again, but was sang throughout tonight.

Yeah heard it on YouTube a few years ago and loved it,delighted it has made a comeback!

Sounded a good crowd on ITV anyway I thought… were Sky doing their thing of lowering crowd noise i wonder?

Cup games are better for atmosphere, you get people who don't get to games as often going and the away allocation is better. Especially carabao cup as its midweek 8pm kick offs

Having said that however, the general point is true, Anfield has been noticeably worse the past few years. Maybe it's the main stand and Annie Road extensions?

For the big games there's still nothing like it, particularly in Europe, but it is definitely a notch below what it used to be unfortunately

I kinda think it probably had to be this one… with their form I'm not sure I see him being around for the sharp end of any other competitions. Looking at their league position they're sandwiched between a rake of teams who've already sacked their managers in Man Utd, West Ham, Everton, Wolves, and Leicester.

I was amazed Szobzalai didn't get MOTM. He was easily the best player on the pitch for me.

I was listening to the redmen tv YouTube channel talk about this, a lot of them would be regulars at matches, and their thoughts were that Anfield can ebb and flow quite a bit. That the don’t really consider Anfield to be this cauldron of noise. It does happen on occasion but more often than not it can take something to happen on the pitch to wake everyone up.

    It was an interesting discussion…

I think it depends on the number of day trippers.

The performance levels in the past few weeks have been impressive but last night was another level. It was the most comprehensive Liverpool performance I've seen under Slot and we sustained the intensity for the whole game.

Alexander-Arnold can pack his bags, Bradley is far better at executing the inside runs that Slot looks for from the full backs. They first appeared in the 2nd/3rd pre-season friendly, I remember at the time saying that the tactical tweak will cause havoc once the team click and the only hope for the opposition is if they go man for man all over the pitch. Last night we saw it executed perfectly, if we sign a left back like Kerkez then next season could be an absolute joy to watch us regularly slice and dice teams. Bradley has really come on as the season has progressed and I think we'll be looking for a potential backup for him rather than a replacement for Alexander-Arnold in the summer.

Jones did really well in the deeper role, there was no dawdling on the ball, he made tackles, covered for Robertson when he went forward and always made himself available as an outlet when necessary to retain possession. To put his performance in perspective, in the 60 odd minutes he was on the pitch Bissouma made 3 tackles, and his partner Sarr made just 1 tackle. In the first half alone, Curtis Jones made 4. Nostalgic moment: Remember when Klopp expressed his disbelief that he had seen Curtis Jones making multiple tackles in a game?

Szoboszlai was my man of the match. He pressed their back line and midfield, got back and shut down Kulusevski, went forward in support of Nunez and occupied the second central defender. That was the Szoboszlai who I had seen play for Hungary a few years ago and that there were glimpses of at Leipzig. His link up with Bradley and composure for the goal were the icing on the cake. Hopefully we'll see those performances more often because he definitely has it in him.

The work rate of Jones and Szoboszlai allowed Gravenberch freedom to get forward. The man is an athlete and then some, if he can start producing goals when he gets space to shoot then we'll need to get him to sign one of those crazy length contracts.

Robertson didn't look completely crocked. The prospect of having him face off against players that could run at him with guile and pace was a worry, but Jones and Szoboszlai didn't let the overload happen. That should be the blueprint for the rest of the season. There were signs of it on the right against Bournemouth last weekend with Gravenberch getting out to cover against Kerkez/Semenyo.

All of the players did their job, but the work rate of the fullbacks and the midfield are what made the game look easy.

Bradley's tackles are fairly good at getting the crowd going.

I watched on ITV and when I switched to Sky it was noticeable the different crowd volumes.

I go over quite regularly and Anfield is absolutely not a cauldron of noise. When the touchstone is lit - Arteta making a tit of himself on the touchline, a Conor Bradley reducer on someone, a big European night etc. - the place seethes. It's quite thrilling to be part of that. But I'd say the at least 80% of the time it's just a regular PL ground. Songs at the start, songs when we score and the hardcore few in the Kop trying to get the 'casuals' singing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,035 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Yeah exactly. Then you'll have Leicester or Wolves fans singing "Where's your famous atmosphere" as if we break it out and go mental because they're in town for a Saturday afternoon league game

Btw it's now been a year and a half since we missed out on paying £50m for Romeo Lavia, just had a look and he's played 620 total minutes for Chelsea across all comps in that time, less than 7 games of football. We signed Gravenberch a week later.

EDIT: Grav has played 653 minutes since January 1st.

I'm happy to hear from someone who goes regularly, I haven't been in years and feel a bit odd trying to make a judgement based on what you hear on different Broadcasters.

He suffered a hamstring injury on his first day of training at Chelsea and he hasn't been right since.

Well summed up! I couldn’t believe Dom didn’t get MOTM last night; he was immense. To me, he’s becoming one of our most important players. His ability to cover ground on the pitch is unmatched.

He’s also becoming more comfortable in the role. At the start of the season, he seemed to tire quickly, which is understandable given the amount of ground he was covering. But it did affect his performance at times—simple misplaced passes and poor ball control let him down. I’m not sure if it’s a fitness issue or if he just has a better understanding of his role now, but he’s definitely been our player of 2025 so far

With Szobo last night (and I agree, he should have been motm), up until the goal, I felt like the final couple of percent wasn't quite there. Few touches went slightly awry, couple of times the ball got under his foot etc.

By which I mean I think there's even more to come from him, which is pretty exciting

There's examples of people saying almost exactly this in the 80s, 90s, 2000's, 2010's etc. Klopp 2017-2020 was the anomaly.

Pretty sure there's an interview with an 80s player at the time saying the atmosphere in the past was never that good, it's just nostalgia for the 60s. Theres always been quiet games.

I know there were lots of old men telling me in the 90s that it wasn't as good. There was definitely some grim times during the benitez era when fans were rowing loads.

Anfield has always ebbed and flowed. It's never been the European style wall of noise. For me, the contrast makes it better.
