There's no indication in that article as to what his methodology was. The graph for range is headed 'projected range' which would cause you to wonder how it's being projected. Also lots of short trips in winter produce lower range figures than longer trips would since the heating factor is a higher proportion of the overall power usage. And there are some striking anomalies in the graph during March and April where there's a large gap between projected range and temperature. Similar temperatures at other times don't show the same gaps.

Thats based on temperature (and other factors), not from using the heating/AC.

Took the below photo yesterday. Over the last 2678kms, I've been averaging 19.8kWh/100kms, with the weather being pretty cold during that time and heater on pretty much all the time. That translates to 323km on a 64kw battery. WLTP is 435km, so I'm getting about a 25% drop in winter.

And as mentioned above, projected range isn't really that accurate. Actual consumption is what matters.

If buying some may make a mistake and put it on adverts.ie only,or one of the smaller sites. As a result they will get far less phone calls. It's worth setting up alerts and checking them regularly. That said 99% of used cars are on done deal.

Set up alerts on done deal and save all interested ads. Then you can see if they are selling or not and get a better idea of bottom prices that they really sell for. Often it's the higher price cars that sit on done deal for months not selling, and inflate prices because people think that's a reasonable for sale price.

DoneDeal definitely has the most cars but beware of Pirates, plenty dodgy sellers operating there with burner phones etc. Carzone a safer bet but it attracts a lot of top dollar asking prices on main dealer cars. Adverts is just a pain, attracts lots of time wasters looking for swaps, stupid questions and silly offers.

Has to be incorrect. I’ve seen more than one a Week clamped, especially the go car units on Greek street.

Yesterday, outside temps were 8C, cabin temp set to 21C, both front seats set to 1 out of 3 bars heating.

Trip analysis for a 360km journey (even mix of 120/100/80 kmh) said that heating used 7.2% of all energy consumed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,463 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

Obviously it would show a figure like that on a continuous long journey where everything is at its best efficiency. It's a completely different ball game driving around town, stopping in traffic, getting out of the car, back in after 20 minutes, setting off again, heater building up the heat again etc... In that type of driving heater consumption is a lot lot higher, all consumption is a lot higher.

Agree, but that 360km journey was over 10 hours, with 8 separate legs, not continuous.

So somewhere between worst case all local and 1 single journey.

If i do my work commute of about 10km and it takes me 30 mins and I have heating on, the effect on the kWh/100km figure is going to be higher than if I traveled 50kms in same 30 mins, even though it used the same energy to heat the cabin for 30 mins.

So it's a very hard figure to tell someone what the effect is. I know my guessometer drops about 10% when I turn blow heating on at all when it's at high SOC. So about 35kms reduced range on an average battery cycle, but it could be much higher in slow traffic, which doesn't matter anyway because I won't be far from my charger

To put it simply, like all cars, whether petrol, diesel, phev or EV, they use more fuel in winter. I use around 40 units per week this time of year dropping to around 32 from April onwards.

I was in Mondello over the weekend at an event. Great fun, lots of entries and very open and welcoming to spectators.

But no chargers installed in the home of Irish Motorsport. Paying customers there for a few hours at a time. Seems like there should be multiple charging options.

According to their website they do have EV chargers on site. But I've never personally seen or used them, so maybe staff only.

Did anyone listen to the electric car guy on Newstalks tech talk recently. He explained why EV sales declined in Ireland the last year. Can't remember what it was. Was it post COVID related? Any remember?

Well I got a story to tell about my Renault Scenic

Crack in windscreen, was meant to be fixed Friday 31st, the windscreen repairer turned up with a windscreen that was to small
Asked Garage to order a windscreen (supposedly the last one in Ireland), delivered today ready to be put in tomorrow, guess what it came delivered in bits…..

No windscreens available in Ireland or the UK and now coming from France and wont be here for 2 weeks.

They gave me a garage car as a work around, a 251 Arkana which is one of the worse cars, I've ever had

Yeah I got a Seat Arona as a loaner from my dealer once when my car was in, it was up there as the worst I've ever driven. They don't give it out anymore the service guy was saying there were people giving out, they have been giving like for like since

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,534 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

At least ye got a loaner, anytime I've asked VW for one I got told none were available

Interesting how garages that are supposedly "overflowing" with ID cars they couldn't sell don't have any spare cars 🤔

Anyway, they'd probably give me some sh!tbox diesel, so I'm probably better off walking

Strange, we tried to get windscreen replaced on Mazda CX-5 in France once, couldn't be done as they were different for right and left hand drive models.. had to wait until we got back to Ireland to get it replaced.

They've yards full of them, pretty poor policy from them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 481 ✭✭Tech_Head

My local VW dealer in Cork was actively looking for ID 3s. Got a great trade in price compared to what I paid but I’d bet it’s because the model has gone up in price. They had four ID 3s in the yard and three were sold already. Maybe a difference between city and rural spots or a surplus in Dublin?

    what’s my car worth?
2014 gen 1.5 leaf. 127,000km. Taxed until August. Nct expires on March 1st. 11 of the 12 bars remain (83%). Mid spec version.

    Needs 2 new tyres.
NCT expiring may bring value down

    thoughts?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,687 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Will the tyres fail NCT? if not then I'd put it through NCT

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

I know you can track the Tesla deliveries via the VIN once you find the ship its on.

Anyone know if you can do the same with Volkswagen's? What ships do they use to deliver to Ireland? Any VIN search on them?
