I know, but they want to give the illusion of impartiality. And they drill down what the democrats have done with a fine tooth comb. This was never done for the first Trump administration. All of his screw ups were brushed under the table.

As I suspected, Trump is playing high stakes poker. Tariffs are on hold with Mexico following a phone call with the Mexican President Sheinbaum.

It's an illusion that a blind man would see through. You baselessly blame the left instead of the entities who are actually at fault. Corporate media adores Trump. They literally can't get enough of him.

Maybe, but some of the things that the left virtue signal about really get under the skin of the other 50% of the electorate and obviously the right wing media too. And of course the media amplifies and twists it to the point of ridicule.

Trump got what he wanted from Mexico. 10,000 troops on the border. Well played. Canada will fold tonight.

The EU concessions will be later this week or early next week. Expect large purchases of American LNG to be announced. Ireland will be top of the queue in that regard.

    Significant easy wins for Trump.

I think the trade wars Trump has kicked off against both US enemies and allies deserves a thread of its own, as Trump thread is more focused on day to day clown show in Washington, while these have far reaching impacts and not just in US

And well the flip flopping is often taking place in span of days, see Colombia tariffs and reversal

Tarrifs placed on Canada, Mexico and China

    EU next

    Stocks already tumbling worldwide

Or, he saw stock markets falling and then a few US businesses which are not owned by Musk had a word in his ear and pointed out how stupid a idea it was.

Expect a change of direction again tomorrow.

There are many examples. Ill give one.

Kamala Harris supported a policy that gave transgender people who rely on the government for medical care — including those in prison and immigration detention — access to transition treatment, including surgical care.

The result being Donald Trump had a field day ridiculing and twisting this in his campaign speeches for the 2024 election.

Yes, he got a pointless show which is all he ever cares about. He has also committed to tackling gun smuggling from the US which is a massive issue. As far as Mexico is concerned this is a win for them against an irrational blowhard.

Canada will fold on what? He has no coherent demands for them. He has equally made no demands of the EU, and they are not ones for conceding on trade policy ever. It amazes me how you doubt the strength of the EU again and again and never have any pause for thought when you are repeatedly wrong.

Bidens biggest failure was preventing a democratic primary.

The progressive wing felt completely disenfranchised

But ultimately I still think the reason Trump won, was because the DNC didn't stop them from cheating. 3.5 million votes were not counted, mostly democrat voters

    The art of the deal?

    The art of the schmuck.

I wonder how long it will be before it occurs to him that he isn't dealing with drywall contractors from The Bronx.

Yes America has a big and powerful economy, but even it cannot withstand a structural reorganisation by Canada, Mexico, the EU, China, BRICS, and others like Japan, Korea, Australia all together; which would simply wean the US out of their economic calculus and move to sourcing those goods and services from elsewhere, on a bilateral deal basis.

There is simply nothing, NOTH-ING, that the United States offers the World that cannot be substituted by an alternative from elsewhere.

I'm not saying it would be easy, or quick, or of course cheap. But for long term reliability and sustainability, people will do it.

Ireland did it in 5 years vis-a-vis the UK. When the Brits were chasing themselves around in circles over the shape of Brexit, Ireland and others just began the work of removing dependability on certain British things, and moved on.

Trump is doing a Liz Truss, and I love it for his voters and his party of milquetoasts.

So, I explained it to him like he is a schoolboy 😃

Mexican President Sheinbaum says that Trump "insisted" on discussing what he termed a trade deficit between the two countries. "I told him it's not really a deficit...we're commercial partners. That's the best way to keep competing with China and other regions of the world."

How were 3.5 million votes not counted?

If the progressive leftists didn't feel disenfranchised then the centrists would feel disenfranchised. That's always been big left wing parties' biggest problem, particularly in the UK Labour party.

The Democrats are not a left wing party though. If they were Irish they would be right of Fine Gael.

You could have done that without the quotes but I'll leave that there.

I would like to think you can win an election and be morally right. It's not an either/or.

Not the last election obviously but give an option that is morally right and convince voters of this (Trump may do that by default). Lowering standards to win an election makes me think "why win?". Winning shouldn't be the end goal, putting forward and implementing policies to make your citizens better should be.

Why did he decide to have the tariffs implemented on Tuesday rather than Monday?

I contend that he wanted to give countries time to scramble a response or offer.

In a utopian society that would be great but in the real world especially the one maga has created you need to pick your battles.

He didn't "prevent" a democratic primary - there was one. His mistake/failing was choosing to run in it.

A serious candidate could, theoretically, have opposed him but they chose not to. Understandably I might add.

Well those standards still don't make them left wing. America is right or far right. Left-wing ideology has no solid political footing there. The makeup of the 2 party system makes alternatives essentially impossible to break through as a viable alternative. When you have morons claim that the Democrats are Marxist or communist it's laughable.

Because if you announce something over a weekend there isn't anyone around to make the changes until the Monday.

If you're on the left, argue from the left. If you're on the right, then you'll be trying to sow seeds of distraction amongst the left

Woke, Dei, etc are nothing but agent provocateurs used by the right to distract from their goal to subjugate everyone

I’d see merit in this argument. It ties in with what I see with some of my own friends.
I think some of the replies you received also reinforce it.

Well the adults in the room realise that the tariffs are a tool to seek negotiations, they wont actually be introduced long term.

Id say they will be resolved quickly and coincide with Trump declaring vistory in the war on drugs. His phrasing that the tariffs are being imposed as a result of the US being flooded with drugs. Thats his off ramp.

I solved the drugs issue and border security has been ramped up so the tariffs can now be dropped.

Both parties are neo-liberal entities. There's nothing "left wing" about them. Both the Dems and the Reps are wedded to corporate interests above everything else.

Naomi Klein once defined neoliberalism as "privatization of the public sphere, deregulation of the corporate sector, and the lowering of income and corporate taxes, paid for with cuts to public spending." which can be applied to either party in the US to varying degrees, albeit more so to the Republican Party. The Democrats not so much. But that certainly doesn't make them Left wing in any traditional sense of the word.

The modern Republican Party, however, have also embraced the more distasteful elements of right wing "belief", in that it sees punching down on the vulnerable to be a viable political tool.
