Trying to tie a fancy knot, when maybe he should just use bunny ears until he gets his hands untied.

There's no goals in this team. While they really need someone in over the next 24 hours, I can totally understand why they don't want to be pushed into a sale for Tel. It would be a big risk. A loan deal would be the way to go.

But It's not exactly breaking news that the team is crying out for someone who knows where the goal is. This should have been done weeks ago.

My numbers might be off (add ons might be included) but if Malacia goes on loan thats £174m worth of players out on loan.

It's crazy to think of the money wasted, I'll give Malacia a pass due to the injury.

Plus Mount on the medical bed.

    Casemiro of nearly no use.

Shaw a week away from being injured.

And we might not see licha again til winter.

It's mad money but then we can see why they don't want to be pushed into stupid money for Tel.

The two attackers leaving is a non issue for me. Rashford on his day is brilliant but he didn't want to be at the club and wasn't been right for a while. Rooney on the overlap said he has been talking to Rashford in teh past and advised him two years ago to get out of the club and Manchester. He didn't straight out say it but he alluded to problems with people around Rashford.

Antony is just Antony he is like a fancy car with no engine in it.... All show and no go. He will probably do well in Spain less attention and more freedom.

A team with as much possession as United is crying out for creativity within it also. Not going to get that starting with 5 defenders starting.

Amorim has to get more out of the options he actually has. The most consistent thing in his selections have been 3 CBs and 2 full backs. He has tried to adjust so many others players based on there profile into the other positions. He has tried CMs up front, he has tried midfields with no defensive minded players, he has moved Bruno around over and over, tried Zirkzeeas a 10 from about half and hour. I admire him believing in a system but he can't really think so many defenders is going to unlock goals and he needs to find a solution in wide areas.

What about doing a loan for Osimhen?

Hopefully dorgu will change the approach on the left.

I'd put amad right and then look at two from mainoo, garnacho, zirkzee off hojlund? Add Bruno in there but then you need mainoo cm. If Mount could maintain fitness he could take either 8 or 10 but it's not happening.

At sporting he played 343, at united it's been 541 more so.

So we're rubbish without even actually trying to implement the (hopefully) long term plan.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,762 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Hopefully Dorgu can provide another option and he has more of the profile needed for the wide position. Dalot can offer more but Maz, as good a player he is technically doesn't have the lungs for that intense up and down role.

Maz could end up in midfield with Mainoo in at 10?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,780 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

With Shaw not reliable could Maz be the LCB?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 967 ✭✭✭jayo44

You would imagine I'd Heaven is purchased for the first team then he has a fair chance of playing some games there too.

Maz started off great with united but I have a feeling lately that having no defined role in the team is not helping him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,780 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

He should get a good few games tbf.

Yoro hasn't been great either but he's only young and adapting so I cant whinge....too much.

Weird one, he was taken off after 72 mins. Fotmob have isco rated higher in the match but I suppose his goal helped.

He'll have a lot more freedom in Spain anyway so hope the form continues for the lad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭Caustic

When did fotmob become so highly rated there was a load of posts over on Reddit by lads who didn't watch the game saying anothy shouldn't have won it, arguing with people who watched the game. Bizzare world we live in

Some positives today to a point, started very well in fact but then didn't take the opportunities and get ahead when on top and it all unravels. Individual lapses defensively of course but the lack of goals is such a killer, has the team under pressure all the time and deflates everyone if and when we do concede.

Been a pretty standard Glazer window so far, knowing what was needed but being unable, for whatever reasons, to get the business done. If Dorgu magically hits the ground running it opens up to putting Maz back in as a centre back where he has done well. The 5 at the back with Ugarte just saps the life out of creatively. Dalot is having an awful spell, could do with being switched back to the right for his own sake too.

Manager is certainly not blameless for the defeats but he isn't top of the list of reasons. Particularly at the start you could see some nice patterns and attacking rotations but we just don't have goals and it's absolutely killing us.

Looks like no help will be forthcoming in terms of personnel who can come in and provide a spark so hopefully will continue to go well in cups and just get through the rest of the league campaign.

I use it for the ease of having a quick look on matches, did a quick Google after to see what the rating was. That's why I didn't pull Mitch out on it.

Fotmob or any other app would likely differ in ratings anyway and shouldn't be taken as 100%.

Because it's Anthony as well id say people just being people for a moan.

I think that's gonna be a theme with this team for a while. The profile of player they are buying is all young tallent with a really high ceiling. I believe the management know this and are hoping that the team can be built and grow together.

That's why I don't believe any pressure is on Ruben to do anything this season. I think the plan was always to change system without any forgiveness.

It makes sense because Ruben said he didn't want to take over a team midway through the season but we can only assume the upper management team said look come in now and implement your system. We know it's going to be a struggle but it has to be done.

Jebus Rashford looks rough in the pics from his unveiling at Villa. Hope he can get the head down and do well for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,008 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

100% jayo, I've no question that's how INEOS went about it. The only reason you'd bring him in now is to get the system going, Ruben finds out what players we currently have can play that system and see the standards in training, playing etc. Gives him an idea then in the summer in what he needs and where. Think we'll see the benefits of bringing him in early next season.

Imagine he came in the summer and found out about the players he has now, then. Would delay any progress even further.

Season was a right off in the league before he came in but I've some expectations for Europa.

Need the lads on loan to really pull up sticks and get a good fee for them all if possible.

The thing that's annoying me, and it's a function of the squad, is that we're not actually pushing the style amorim would want.

343 with wingers as wing backs, is very different to the effective 5 at the back we are generally playing.

So we struggling and losing, while in large part not actually learning in the approaches we'd want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,780 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Do you think with Dorgu we will see the 3-4-3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,938 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    Closer, on the left anyway.

The loss of martinez will be huge though, in terms of progressing the ball that side. Shaw can play lcb but he'll be injured before the end of the month.

On the right it's dalot or amad. He seems to want amad up top, so it'll be dalot imo. So still a full back. But in fairness to dalot he's generally more willing to drive on than mazraoui is.

Plus, who knows if dorgu will be generally picked as durst choice or if he's gonna be eased in more like yoro.

I'd like to see dorgu and amad wb. With Ugarte. Bruno then mainoo and garnacho off.... A striker.

Defense... Dunno. Shaw, mdl, mazraoui maybe? Maguire in for mdl?

Assuming Shaw becomes injured again that lcb position is a problem. I'd put mazraoui in the back line to have his passing there, but don't know if he could do that well from lcb. Maguire, mdl or yoro at lcb are also a worry. And I'd assume heaven isn't ready to be thrown in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,780 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Yeh Amad at RWB is a no brainer, I like Maz at CB so defo have him there, I don't think Yoro is ready so Maz at LCB when Shaws body gives up is the right move.

Yeah it feels like we are just prioritising being defensively solid over trying to develop attacking patterns at the moment. To be fair, teams aren't cutting through us and it's individual mistakes/moments that are costing us games (and winning games for us at times). It's dull and uninspiring but he doesn't seem to have the confidence to allow us to open up and commit more bodies forward. He's concerned about the midfield + Maguire not being able to cover the bigger distances in a more expansive approach, and our attack clearly isn't good enough to compensate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Its what, 2 clean sheets in the PL for Amorim?

They are far from defensively solid and it can't just be dismissed as individual errors for months on end, defensive solidity comes from the training field and so do the errors.

I think there's more legs in the Tel saga going into the final day. Wouldn't be surprised if we pulled off another surprise deal

Relative to what we were under Ten Hag, we're defensively solid. Teams aren't generally cutting through us in open play and creating great chances at will. They went through us like a hot knife through butter under Ten Hag. But our attack has become less potent, and that was already an issue under Ten Hag.
