I don't really mind if the Tel deal fell through, I don't think it was a good pursuit to begin with. That squad absolutely does not need another young project in the first team.

It needs new players right now, just not that profile of player.

Evertons squad was ready made for Moyes system.

    Yep

A loan deal for 4 months should be someone who can have an immediate impact. He doesn’t sound like the guy.

He's a player that should be learning from the main strikers, you could say he's already learning how to not score from Hojlund and Zirks already, he'll fit right in

Lads, it was 2. Could have been 4 or 5, they had some serious chances.

Amorim really needs to start hammering down the basics.

Or, we shouldn't have gone into the lady day if the window with our only plan being tel for a deal bayern didn't want. Tel, who didn't seem available at all until 4 days ago.

Its pathetic, imo, that we put all our eggs in a last minute basket without knowing if a deal could even be done.

Not paying 60m for tel isn't the issue. It's leaving us short in attack cause we thought we'd get a deal that wasn't on offer because we've executed a terrible window.

Oh you know for a fact nothing else is lined up or that a deal definitely won't be worked out between now and tomorrow night. You know this for sure because you are speaking like you do.

INEOS were probably reliant on Rashford going before they could do anything, so tomorrow we may see some transfers happening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,677 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

Maybe someone is lined up but the reality is, we almost always hear about this well before the club announces it. Imo anyone signed tomorrow would be a last minute thing and probably not something the club planned properly for - when they knew the plan was to let both Antony & Rashford go. It’s hard to look at that and think they’ve handled it well. Now maybe someone competent signs tomorrow and some Atheltic piece comes out saying they had been looking at him for a while, then fair enough, it’s different.

You say you’re confident we’ll get someone in but what are you basing this on?

Most will say he needs at least 2 transfer windows for his team to take shape which I agree with to a certain extent.

But it's all about context. For example, if he lost 15 out of his first 20 games I'd be surprised if he survived.

Only 4 wins from 13 in the league is extremely poor for a new manager but 4 wins from 4 in the Europa has us hopeful for the CL. Plus most fans accept he inherited a sh1tshow.

What's up with the second question?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,924 ✭✭✭Whatsisname

Letting 2 attackers leave on loan and not replacing 1 of them would be criminal. We need to bring someone in tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

There are two separate aspects in my mind.

2/3 or even 4/5 transfer windows to build his own team, I have no problem with that. I'd like almost every player replaced so I can fully understand why it will take a long time to do that.

But thats the future. In the present I expect the coach to both make some use out of the players available and also to improve some of the players that are there.

And Amorim is not doing this. They are worse than they were under Ten Hag. The defence is leaking like a sieve, the attack has completely stalled and there still isn't a settled first 11.

Amorim inherited a shitshow yes. And now they are even worse again. He needs to do better.

I really, really hope there are 2/3 deals lined up for tomorrow, and I really hope that Dorgu makes an immediate impact. Because the current trajectory only ends one way.

The second question relates to people who give the coach a complete free pass no matter how poor the performance. There comes a point when even they will have to start questioning whether he is a solution, or actually just another unfortunate problem.

Its been widely reported we asked for Nkunku on loan, before Tel.

Clearly a couple are being discussed.

Lads stop using Antony as leverage for rage 😂 Hes awful and won't be missed, I'd be happier with Mather getting games ahead of him.

    Rashford is fair to use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,089 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Not replacing them will make no difference

That's how insignificant they were to this team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,677 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

It’s not about replacing Antony because that’s obviously not something that needs replacing. It’s about understanding that him being gone (from a financial perspective), along with Rashford should be enough to bring in a goalscorer, which we desperately need. Big statement from the manager with his starting 11 today, highlighting that we don’t have a striker he trusts to score a goal.

This is the state of play according to Laurie Whitwell

“The proposed move taking Mathys Tel to Manchester United is regarded as unlikely at this stage, with the club wanting to stay financially prudent into the final 24 hours of the January transfer window.

Tel, the 19-year-old Bayern Munich forward, has been considered by United due to his potential availability on loan. But sources describe talks over Tel as cool, with United calm should no further signings arrive.

United have also looked at Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku and Aston Villa's Leon Bailey as short-term options, but neither deal is being progressed. Club executives are minded to only pursue transfers that make sporting and monetary sense and will not press ahead unless that is the case.”

For me.. I think someone needs to come in if we are to win the Europa League. The club knows how important having European football next season is in terms of easing the financial issues, and winning the EL is our best chance of that. We may do it with the current squad but having another option could be worth the outlay now come the end of May.

Saving 5ish million isn't going to get you a top drawer attacker we need.

Tel and Nkunku is who we've bid loans for, hardly world beating.

My point is nobody gave a shite about Antony until the loss today and now are using him to have a rant as if hes being missed.

The comments are all about letting 2 go and none in, nothing about financials.

    Antony since 4pm today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,677 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

One of just two comments that I can find was from me. I mentioned it in terms of the club knew in advance that the plan was to let both go, so should have worked to bring someone else in with the combined wages saving.

Nobody has come even close to suggesting he would be missed, that is in your head. I can only speak for myself but I’m fairly sure @Whatsisname wasn’t suggesting it either.

So this comment here where you don't mention financials?

Also no financials mentioned in whatshisnames comment, are we supposed to be mind readers?

Please say we aren't going to sign another striker who has a poor goal scoring record. We'll just end up back where we started.

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,780 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Trying everything with limited options and budget is what the headline should be.

i'd settle for someone who has a barely adequate record, cos thats better than what we have right now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,677 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

You could always ask instead of jumping to ridiculous conclusions. Everyone knows that the reason why United are not able to bring people in has been financials related. The point I made is that if you are planning to free up the salary of two very well paid players, you should have a plan in place to use that saving to bring someone into the forward line, that has been awful this season. Why on earth would anyone pretend that losing Antony was some disaster, knowing that everyone in this thread knows he doesn’t offer anything and hardly plays? That’s what you took from two comments? If the word “financials” need to be mentioned every time to help with your comprehension, then I’ll do my best to remember that.

”My point is nobody gave a shite about Antony until the loss today and now are using him to have a rant as if hes being missed.”

Again, this is all in your head. It hasn’t been suggested by anybody and the meme which you posted has no relevance to anything that has been said either. Whatever makes you think that you’re funny though 😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,780 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Vlahovic at Juve has been linked with a move away, I'd rather him over Tel, I think we'll end up with Nkunku though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,780 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Ok so someone makes a comment we should ask what they really mean 🤔

All in my head? Sure says the man assuming another posters comments align with his and goes as far as tagging them for some support....

    🥅

    🥅

    🥅

    🥅

Keep moving those goalposts to suit your awful take.

Trying to tie his shoelaces with one hand tied behind his back and being blindfolded !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,677 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

If you're unclear, which you were, then yeah it would make sense to do so. Especially if you are somehow of the mind that people are suggesting that Antony would be missed, which is bizarre and would definitely make me wonder too.

Tagging for support? No, you've assumed incorrectly again. I tagged the person to allow them to have the opportunity to explain their comment, if they wanted to.

What goalposts were moved? What was awful about my take?

Ridiculous to post about letting 2 attackers go and not replace them and NOT mention it's about financials which is the main point of your post.

Look we're not gonna agree and I don't wanna bicker as you're a damn good poster so lets just agree to disagree and sulk about today 🤷🏻‍♂️
