I have 2 H7S recievers from World of Satellite (I have been using enigma2 receivers from WoS for years as have a lot of my family/friends). I have bought several recievers from them and never had an issue.

Anyway, I bought 2 H7S receivers in 2021. Both of them hung a few times per week when not in use. I tried EVERYTHING … remove plugins, disable certain plugins, new PSU with higher rating, removing HDs … etc. As I said, I have LOTS of E2 experience (I have commited to the OpenVix opensource codebase even) and I couldn't figure out what was wrong.

I contacted WoS support who are excellent. I shipped both receivers back to them and they managed to reproduce the problem - seems to have been a hardware problem with both receivers. They shipped 2 new Zgemma H7S receivers to me and they've been rock solid. Not a single crash/hang in 4 years.

At the time, I know there were a good few complaints similar to mine. A lot of people just accepted it and were happy to turn the reciver on and off when it happend.

you might have received one of the dodgy H7S receivers @Thargor

Ah balls this is also from WoS but they're >2 years old now, ah well thanks anyway.

Is there an easy way to move a large number of channels to favourites from one of the other bouquets?

I am using simply ten eighty on openvix image 6.5.003

There is openwebif which has a bouquet editor. I haven really used it much so not sure about bulk operations.

After that you can always login/ssh and have a poke at the bouquet files themselves in /etc/enigma2. But its old school stuff, 'bash' command line and 'vi' editor.

Have you tried or know the method using the remote and how many channels?

    Thanks.

No, I don't know the method with the remote. What is it?

Maybe all the mainstream channels and the +1 options.

    Probably about 60 channels

Holy smoke that's a lot. have you setup ABM to give a starting point like this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭cathy427

Ok. Would people normally just have a handful in favourites?

I put the channels in the order I like (basically saorview, bbc, utv, ch 4 etc) in one list in all channels so its just just in case I lose that order cause of updates or something. Maybe I am being too cautious.

    This is what I have

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,327 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

I just have those and I dont use favourites at all. I threw a lot of shite out too like religion, kids, shopping, adult etc.

    image.png

Saorview only has half a dozen channels and Entertainment is like I used to know it from my Sky box.

    image.png

I dont find I need favourites after that.

I like to keep it simple and not bother with favourites either.

Looks good. Do you find it awkward not having the Irish channels on the same list?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

I just view the my EPG for 7 days on that channel as i can set recordings that way.

I go to either tuner to select either Sat or Saorview and then the channel as dont use favourites list in ABM

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

Cathy, I know what you are trying to achieve and I use dreamboxedit to arrange all channels/bouquets, xfr between boxes etc but using the remote I can achieve much the same but slower. The favourites bouquet is a default ie it wont be deleted when ABM runs hence the idea add all the channels you watch most often and have them on same epg. On your list above you show freesat and I never use that. Here is a pic of how I set abm and a pic of favourites. I use maghera so you may have your own xmitter so leave it. The sequence is.

    1. Configure ABM = see pic. NB green to save. 2. Select Providers see pic. 3. Hide the sections you don't want. 4. Keep the Bouquets you want I have a tick on favourites. 5. Delete ABM before you scan. 6. If box is on internet, I click update provider files. 7. Start scan.
    2. When scan is finished you should have favourites at top and then you can add channels but do a pic as I have tweaked my set up and may look different. Go slow and check each entry.

Here is a pic of favourites with channels added.

You can always change back to your own preference and you dont have to run ABM only if required and as ITV have sorted channels now changes should be very few. I run mine on friday only.

Oh wow, thanks so so much for all that. Super.

One final thing - 5. Above "Delete ABM before you scan." Is that one of the options in the set up or do you come out of the set up and do that seperatrly?

    Thanks so much again.

Am I correct in saying the Favourites bouquet wont be updated if you run ABM ?

ie if one of the Favourite channels changes frequency, it will need to be manually updated, copied in ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

The delete will show when you open ABM.

And yes favourites remain untouched and thats where the adding channels by remote will apply using red button under all you add new and delete old.

Adding channels to favourites will make it clear.

Using openvix 6.5.003 with simple 1080.

    I have opentv download enabled

To keep the epg updated for both Irish and UK channels do I need to do anything else?

The automatic import epg is disabled

EPG should be on enable to allow to download to USB or HDD only and not internal flash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

With openepg you dont need epgimporter so that should stay at disable. And there may be the odd occasion when epg is not filled so you can press blue button and select forced download. And NB location of epg MUST be hdd or usb so go epg settings look for location and if it says internal flash toggle arrow to change green to save. If you need EPG importer it has to be configured correctly.

The EPG for saorview is transmitted with the channels ie you cant download it. if epg is missing you just wait.

Vix is at 6.6 now and they have stopped support for older versions you may not notice for a time. Did you sort moving/adding channels?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭cathy427

    Thanks so so much.

Ya, got the channels sorted thanks to your help. You are an absolute star and a wealth of knowledge. Didn't want to be quoting your replies to say thanks in case it's seen as spaming the thread.

Have everything the way I want it now. Few cosmetic bits I haven't worked out yet but no panic on those. For eg to try other skins or set up legal IPTV stuff, or which option to click for picons. For trying other skins when I go to plugins this is what I am seeing

Should there be an option there for skins as well?

    ............

Seperate to the cosmetic stuff: For the update to 6.6 do you recommend a full clean install or restore settings?

Also is 6.6 stable enough for newbies to now go for - without plaguing you with questions!! :-) 😀

I prefare a clean install no settings back up onto a new partition as have 4 to choose from.

Sometimes they change things and some things are not restorable.

I stick with default skin simple 1080 as sometimes skins give trouble and hide things and just keeping things simple so less issues.

Setup - user Interface - Skin selection

Openvix keep all the bits on their server and a new development is they are stopping support for older images quicker so that is the reason you see that message.

This is your best option for now and you will learn a bit but go slow and you will get the option to save a backup ie you have no choice but that's a good thing. Do this for now menu, setup, vix, image manager, press yellow, and you will now get choice of 4 images BUT stick with Vix for now, click ok, now select 6.6 and then click on 6.6.013, I know 6.7 is on the way so this one is stable, when its finsshed downloading press blue button and you will get 4 slots. NB look closely and it will say current ie the version you are on, don't overwrite that, pick an empty slot 2 and press OK, box will ask do I restore say yes to all and then it should boot into the new slot. Check it and see if all you did has moved over. NB dont do this if you are recording.

When its running go to plugins and press green and you should get everything but don't download anything yet.

Report back and 'll explain skins. I am watching footie for the evening.

You are nearly bang up to speed.

    So clear. Thanks again.

In for late shift now so will try it later if chilling when get home or else it will be towards the weekend.

Is there any downside to staying on 6.5.003 for a short while?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

No as your image is not that old as some might be on 5.1.

If it works dont break it but you can download a newer one on another slot if you wish.

Does anyone use the av outlet on the zgemma h7s?

Have an old 3.5mm to rca cable but it doesn't want to push fully into the av outlet.

Wondering has it a different size av outlet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,634 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

I had a Vu+ Duo until recently and I'm guessing I don't need to do anything with the cables from the dish and aerial if I was to buy a H7s ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

    correct.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Stick up a photo of the cable you are using , not used it on the H7S but have used the spdif port.

Sometimes cables dont push in all the way as port is shorter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,634 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

    Thanks for the info.

I can't get anyone to repair the Vu+ boxes so will try one of these.
