generally I would say that doing the exact opposite of what Reddit (and especially r/ireland) is doing can only be a positive for boards.

I really don’t understand why some people want boards to be more like it. It’s a shite place. You either agree with the mass opinion or you get banned— at least with boards no one’s getting banned without a generally good reason

Edit: just to add as well; even if you’re banned here for an unfair reason you can appeal it!! They ban you on r/Ireland there’s no comeback- you’re just gone.

    On mobile.

It is bigger than just r/Ireland on Reddit. Don't know where it first began. Only used that as an example.

I'm glad I put the title as a suggestion and question and not a statement.

I have been reluctant to post embeds from 'Xitter' for awhile. Didn't want to give more traffic. There is viable alternative for people to switch to than depending on the 'X'!

As a 'Free Speech' advocate, I'm against banning a platform. Think I mentioned it before. Will share previous posts, when on laptop.

Sorry on mobile, and had the sad news of my younger female first cousin (52) passing unexpectedly this morning . Still in shock, so not really in the mood to discuss this more today.

Latest edit was to correct spellings and spacing from mobile posting.

Not too much more but tbh I dont really trawl the web for American politics snippets like some people do. So you may forgive me for not being up-to-date on every tweet Musk likes or doesnt like.

Honestly I think sharing Twitter links is on a downward decline on its own so doesn't really need any intervention.

Like, do we really want to keep funding a Nazi?

@CalamariFritti I don't really trawl the web for American politics snippets like some people do.

That is the beauty of social media (not just 'X'), you don't have to be trawling the web yourself, when others do so and share the different view points. It is about being tuned in to the world that matters!

Just for the record. Other than a few posts starting 2 months ago, I had not posted on reddit for 3 years. But still got some interesting content notifications on my phone. Check my profile, if you need to.

Dont get me wrong, Elon Musk should be nowhere near any station of power. Its scandalous.

We've long since become an open oligarchy. Our politicians no longer make policies for the people. Money rules and they dont even try to hide it anymore. Democracy is becoming a farce and censorship - sorry fighting 'misinformation' - is just one angle of it. Democrats or Republicans, EPP or S&D it makes no difference, things are only going into one direction anyway. Unbridled capitalism, imperialism and sure enough fascism. Its just that one side tries a little fig leaf still while the other side doesnt even care anymore what it looks like.

At least here in Ireland they're not the worst. The general direction is the same nothing they can do about it but at least our guys are just chancers and not out and out cvnts. Sad state of affairs when you have to take solace in that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,145 ✭✭✭Raichų

damn straight Andrew. A tiny internet site that no one outside this country knows or can give two fcuks about (with the majority IN Ireland falling into that bracket) are funding NAZIS by not banning TWITTER links.

You know what my friend- you ought to work the daily mail or similar. You’re very good at making something out of nothing.

Let’s stop for a moment and realise one thing:

Twitter isn’t what makes Elon rich.

@Harika Where did you get that news from?

    https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/elon-musk-appears-video-german-far-right-campaign-event-2025-01-25/

My source, and been feed to me on my followings:-

^^ Father of Matias • Soap opera fan • Reader of the Official Gazette of the Union • Human Rights Lawyer • PhD in International Law from USP • Programmer •

"It's good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything," Musk said.
Last week, the U.S. billionaire caused uproar after he made a gesture that drew online comparisons to a Nazi salute during U.S. President Donald Trump's inauguration festivities.
On Saturday, he said "children should not be guilty of the sins of their parents, let alone their great grandparents," apparently referring to Germany's Nazi past.

Musk spoke in favour of voting for the far right party, saying: "I'm very excited for the AfD, I think you're really the best hope for Germany ... fight for a great future for Germany," he told onlookers.
Weidel thanked him, said the Republicans were making America great again, and called on her supporters to make Germany great again.

Was able to understand the skeet thanks to google translate. Didn't need to trawl the web. As the saying goes '**** sinks'. But good content gets promoted!

Not that simple really given he's pro Israeli and popular with Israeli leadership. If he was an actual Nazi then he wouldn't be pals with Jews. As ever it's more complicated. He's clearly promoted elements of the far right and he's obviously very problematic but it's hyperbolic to suggest he's an actual Nazi.

If Musk is a literal Nazi, then why aren't all these people proclaiming he is a Nazi, taking up arms and trying to shoot him?

Would they have let Hitler go free aswell?

The reality is that left wing simps always have to go with exaggerated claims.

It was the same during covid when it was officially an endemic. The left wing simps were bullying and desperate for the WHO to call is a pandemic.

It's never just assault, it's attempted murder.

    It's never murder, it's genocide.

It's never right wing, it's fascism.

As for redditors all being sheep, they won't look at their own site which is part owned by China..a bastion of human rights. No child labor or concentration camps in China, no way!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,500 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Macron did the same gesture and AOC gave a speak and had her arm out stretched but that doesn't make them a nazi. Musk is a complete odd ball and as much as I don't like him calling him a nazi is over the top, everyone knows he completely right but he'll do anything just to piss off the left. Casually calling people a nazi that clearly aren't completely diminishes the meaning of a nazi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 GAA_2025

They know he's not a nazi, but they also know they can try break Elon down by making stuff up.

    Truth doesn't matter.

The left does not learn. They spent the last year saying Trump was a fascist and like Hitler yet sleepy Joe was all smiles welcoming him to the white house the other day.

I saw some tweet with thousands of likes the other day saying Elon chose X because it's just a few modifications away from being a swastika.

They spent the last year saying Trump was going to abandon Ukraine and hand it to Putin.

Now that doesn't look likely and now they're saying Trump is done with Putin because he doesn't need to be re-elected and that Zelensky licked his arse and that's the only reason Trump is siding with Ukraine.

Another low post new account with the Andrew Tate lingo.

Why don't you 'simp' off back to 4chan and leave the real discussions to the adults?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 GAA_2025

It must eat up the likes of you to know Trump is back and for the next 4 years it will be glorious. To see the heads of left wing simpletons spinning is music to my ears.

Ban what you like. You can't ban Trump from being the headline for the next 4 years.

I love to open the news and see Trumps picture. I am content in the knowledge that it makes people like you despair.

I have yet to use the 'IGNORE' button on here. But if he keeps up this kind of content. I soon will!

I hope I haven't dragged people over from reddit, to cause havoc here. By linking content!

As mentioned earlier in thread, I believe I was trolled by the mod of r/Ireland!

It got me curious to what the search engine put up for the tittle here, leaving out boards.ie!

Got my attention, because sport was a mentioned by people not in favour of a Ban!

At a guess, the people on Boards.ie aren't trying to shoot Musk because they don't have guns and Musk is in a different country.

But congratulations on your early entry into Silliest Argument Of The Year. There's a long way to go yet but your chances of coming out on top are high

    No.

Thankfully Boards is not Reddit. Thus karma farming by bandwagoning on whatever censorious behaviour on the latter site which is currently en vogue is not a feature of this site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,213 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

Its a platform run by a nazi is not the same as 'i don't like it'

Do boards facilitate links to Stormfront?

I wouldn't ban links to twitter, but i would definitely remove the code to unfurl them.

From the sports link, I posted last night!?

The main issue fueling this debate is X's recently introduced login requirement. It mandates Reddit users to be logged into an X account before they can view content linked from the latter.

What the hell are they on about. Unless that was reverted, it was always the case, that you need to be logged in to see the replies in a thread! Just tried in incognito and could see the first post!

Some MOD on boards, paying attention! @GAA_2025 already banned! Thanks!

I have family commitments again today, and will be away from laptop, so don't know if I will be active here!

Thanks to @Podge_irl for posting his stance on this in the 'Sports› Rugby›URC 2024/25' forum!

If others mod's are putting out a similar stance please give instructions as provide above on how to embed 'X/twitter' links correctly. Don't want to be posting myself the above in forums I don't frequent if your quoting this thread?

I know very well I have posted that guide plenty of times before. Boards, Google and 'www.perplexity.ai' let me down when trying to search for them posts.

Did come across the below (while searching) for anyone wanting to see 'Xitter' posts! :-

Hard to argue with any of that. I think the main issue banning X it is a slippery slope as you say.

But I think it is also linked to an ancillary underlying issue, that many people do not possess the skills/know how to evaluate sources.

In this day and age I think the Irish Education system should focus on teaching that skill. And involve it in computer classes and English as well.
Particularly in an era of misinformation which uses technology, to frame or manipulate narratives.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

@...Ghost... People don't like the owner of a platform, so want to ban useful links to content on that platform which may be relevant to contributions being made here.

    @gormdubhgorm

Is not just about like him or not. It has more to do with his control of the platform and what he is turning it into. And his support for Far Right extremists and his influence over people through the platform.

I actually follow him on 'X', out of curiosity to see what 'cockamamie' crap he comes out with it! Still have an active account on the platform for the below reasons. Now protected account because a government was formed here:

I keep mine active for a couple of reasons!

    • So no one can take my profile if I deactivate it.
    • Like verifying accounts by asking people if they created a bluesky account.
    • Encouraging politicians/MEPs to join bluesky.
    • We recently had a General Election in Ireland and waiting for a government to be formed before protecting my account
    • Finally and most important using FREE 'SkyfollowerBridge' on lists to find accounts. Not scam version with a '.com' domain!

I also posted the above 2 months ago on Reddit! And have been lobbing Politicians/MEP's to switch platform since early September. So I haven't just jumped on the latest bandwagon trend. Mentioned before, I am not in favour of bans. And glad I asked a question in the title and not a statement!

As more accounts shift to alternatives there won't be much left on the platform to be useful anyway!?

At a guess, US government agencies won't be going anywhere for the next four years anyway.

(NASA, and many associated accounts would be the ones I'd be thinking about, but any local government accounts reporting on for eg. wildfires in California or hurricanes in the gulf / east coast. It'd be a shame to ban them, IMHO)

Completely against this suggestion. Disappointed that the idea was actually put forward.

And a Nazi is a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party.

If someone alive today is behaving like they did you use the term Neo-Nazi.

Calling everyone you don't like a Nazi just devalues the term.

No one is calling everyone they don't like a Nazi. Failing to recognise Nazis as Nazis is not clever. Musk IS an actual Nazi.
