A reduction was not unexpected, but that is a significant drop, almost 17% reduction, from 24 to 20 cent, so one would expect downward movement on the Energia tarriffs.

Energia still remains as the 2nd highest microgen rate, with the worst being Yuno, only 15.89 cent.

Pinergy now the front runner, still paying 25cent, allthough reductions are likely coming soon.

Just make sure you've isolation for the immersion heater

    Something the google electricians overlook

Bit like EV toll rates I think FIT payments will be wound down over time and eliminated unless you're producing quantities that would genuinely assist the grid.

Hopefully you're not familiar with the switchbot? - it just attaches to the existing immersion switch so it's the same as just manually turning on and off the previously working switch. As initially mentioned that was one of the reasons for going that route - no concerns about any wiring etc.

If FIT goes, it will push Return of Investment back so far as to make me think that solar in Ireland is a bad investment.

zero evidence of it going anywhere, this is a cornerstone of government and EU policy, so its going absolutely nowhere. It was well flagged and expected, that export rates would reduce slowly, in line with most unit prices, which have also reduced, albeit slowly.

Theres a lot of people exporting, albeit most are probably small exporters, combined together though, this does has a significant impact, i exported just over 5,000 from Feb to end of October, next year, i’l do 7,000 minimum for the full year, as we only got the battery installed mid year, and had a few teething issues, and had an unavoidable export pause for a period. These are very sizeable numbers, and many have way higher export volumes than this. There are a few on here with larger systems, and i’d guess some exceed 10,000 units in export annually.

It would be very interesting to see some data on the national FIT picture.

What i fail to understand is i see all these new homes being built, and they are only getting a “token” number of panels, to get to an A or B rating, and to tick those green credential boxes, and for feelgood marketing purposes, rather than longer term practicalities. Even the bigger new homes, appear to be drastically under specced for PV panels, and they all have heatpumps.

any deals out there, up for renewal and being offered .2964 24hr rate with a standing charge of 257.38.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,932 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

thats expensive, i signed up to the flogas BWG rate last year for 24c day and 12c night, must be similar around?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,932 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

with heatpump a large battery would be more useful than solar imo.

It's flowgas that offered me that, think i'm paying them .27 at the moment. I might ask him about that bwg rate, what is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,565 ✭✭✭fafy

The Axa Energia offer is still available:

24 hour rate is still 22.46 inc vat

it’s linked earlier in this thread it was a deal for spar / bwg employees but anyone could sign up online don’t think they will offer over the phone tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,589 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Since that 2024 Bwg offer the wholesale price of electricity is a bit cheaper so hopefully Flogas and the others come up with competitive 2025 offers that actually try to tempt customers to switch over.

Not necessarily no point changing supplier for FIT, but the change in terms allows a break in contract without penalty.

I was able to put my usage into energypal.ie and see that the reduction in FIT actually made me worse off - all things considered based on my own import/export - so was able to change to the BG EV plan instead and save about €100 per year without penalty.

EDIT - I was also informed that there is a 30 day window to change without penalty. Was notified 28 days ago, so the window may still be open for another few days for others too!

I have been looking at different plans as contract is due to expire with Energia EV plan.

Anyone have a similar experience, any advise is welcome. My biggest concern is the limited limited EV hours to charge the car and the 10kw battery and run all the appliances at the cheap rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭pad406

Based on my usage over night I'm using about 11.4kWh per hour. Mostly it's battery and car, so over the 3hr window I have there's usually 8.5kWh going into the battery (I've 10.4kWh battery, SOC is 15% at this time of year), balance for the car, so 25ish going into the car, balance house usage.

Battery is usually charged after 2h 10m.

I don't need to charge the car every night, so appliances are usually on the other nights

Hi Lads, how do I get the welcome credit from pinergy? Is there a way to go about it or is it automatic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,565 ✭✭✭fafy

I’m on the 4 hour EV Energia plan(EV Smart Drive), we have a 15kw battery, and we have 3 EV’s, heatpump, its doable, for the 3 EV’s, but the rate outside the 4 hour window is quite high, but its not an issue for about 10 + months of the year, as battery is big enough to power everything during 6am to 2am slot. I also exceeded the 1000 kw limit on my last bill, but the rate only slightly goes up from 7.54 inc vat, to 8.67 inc vat.

I looked at the 3 hour window tarriffs, but i passed, as i need the extra flexibility of 4 hours at a low rate.

If the battery is at its minimum of 10%, it charges up to full in around 3 hours, so i time washing machines from around 5am, when battery is full, i wouldn’t be able to do that on a 3 hour window tarriff, while charging an EV throughout.

The other variable is the Energia export rate, which is reducing from 24 cent to 20cent from January 13th.

I'm thinking of going the other way myself but depends on your connection.

    I've a 16kva so:

    20kwh battery + 24kwh heat pump (cold night) + 12kwh for one ev + 2 or 3 kwh for house load = 58kwh

In 3 hrs I could maybe get 51kwh maybe 54kwh.

That's the very cold nights, which are few and far between and probably wouldn't be driving the next day anyway so not a big deal if the ev hasn't charged.

Did the sums there and based on moving only half of my fourth hour consumption into the third hour I'm saving a good whack:

I only have 12kva connection, i did look at 16kva but the last time i checked, it was 2k ish to upgrade via ESBN, plus there are other costs with an electrician,

    https://www.esbnetworks.ie/docs/default-source/publications/esb-networks-dac-statement-of-charges.pdf
you also have a bigger battery, so the 3 hour window may well work for you.

Hi Lads, after a lot of pain I signed up for the cooline ev rate just about.

The weird thing is that its a 30 day rolling contract.

Not sure if thats good or bad as I'm guessing they can change all the rates even in a contract anyway.

Are other people on the pinergy one in the same boat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,565 ✭✭✭fafy

are they still giving €100 sign up credit ? I noticed its still on webpage, but no obvious place to apply for Cooline Tariff:

So, just checking, they are still doing the €100 signup credit ?

I did consider moving onto it, but the 4 hour Energia cheap rate window suits our needs much better

Its unfortunately probably inevitable, that the Pinergy market leading 25cent export rate, will reduce soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,494 ✭✭✭randombar

    I am.

I'm guessing the pinergy rate will decrease all right but fingers crossed it's not for another while yet.

Got a letter from FloGas telling me my community rate was finished in March and I would be going onto the standard rate.

Are there still community rates available from FloGas?

Everything has changed on our electricity usage profile in the last few months (New solar, extra EV, new smart meter) so historical data is of no use to decide on a new plan - I'd just be happy to stay on the current rates for now and then look next year when I know the usage. I want to stay on day/night for the moment.

Have an EV arriving next week (50kw battery) so might be time to switch.

Currently with EI at a flat rate of 31c

Standing charge is 63c per day = €230.00

    3,300kwh pa usage

4.3kw solar array getting 20c Microgen

My head is melted with the various options, any suggestions on who to go with?

I went on to Bonkers.ie and it is advising that Electric Ireland "Energy Save Dual 30%" (I have gas also) seems to have only marginally more expensive rates than the FloGas community rates, but the FIT is better by 1c, so that seems to be the way to go for me.

EDIT: I can't find reference to this plan on the EI web-site, so I will try go through Bonkers and see what happens!
