    Night Breed on the C64.

    https://www.lemon64.com/game/night-breed

It's one of the first games I played on the system. 😊

Indeed, my C64 was the "Night Moves/Mind Benders" pack, so was one of my first C64 games also.

This will be your first time playing HL2?? Lucky bastid

Nightbreed. another Night Moves kid here.. I couldn’t figure out this game at first.. couldn’t last more than a couple of minutes and then one day for no reason it just clicked and I went through the whole thing in one go. One of the first games I ever completed

About half way through the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door at the moment. I've had the GameCube version there for years but just never got around to giving it a go.

Had a massive 'what the feck?!' moment when I booted it up and the first RPG style turn based battle began.

For all these years I've been 100% under the impression that the Paper Mario series were platformer games, hadn't a clue they were RPGs!

Edit- just figured it out, it's because I had Super Paper Mario on the Wii and of course that's the one title that's not an RPG

Ah no, I've never played the Decay expansion for PS2 (though I've since learned it's basically a multiplayer co-op so not my cup of tea). I was here for the launch of Half Life 2 requiring this thing called Steam….

I had the same pack. I recall the awesome design on the box. :-)

Did you have a favorite from them? Mine was Snare - https://www.lemon64.com/game/snare-thalamus [Mind Benders].

I'd say probably Midnight Resistance was mine, a very decent port iirc. Still remember the old 'siamese123' code for it (infinite lives I think??)

You kinda have to, I mean, the Commodore is keeping up with you so you've no choice really…

Installed a GBA emulator on the OH's phone. She never plays games.

She's now currently hooked on Tetris Worlds... I think I've lost her to it ...this is how it begins

Still have my Night Moves hidden high up on the ceiling above the door into my gaming room. I really wanted to be good at Sly Spy but wasn’t and Midnight Resistance was probably the best game on it but ultimately they were all multi loaders I think so Nightbreed and Snare got the most play time because I was better at them.

And then I discovered Turrican, Last Ninja, Bruce Lee, Action Biker, Blue Max , Microprose Soccer, Exploding Fist, IK+ and the Dizzy games and that was the end of Night Moves and Mindbenders. Not long after that the Datel Action Replay arrived with a disc drive and I reckon I spent more time copying games than playing them.

I still have my original too, recapped it a few years ago and added an sd2iec to it. Can't help but imagine what sorcery that would have looked like back in the late 80s, on the exact same machine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,889 ✭✭✭Worztron

Of those others you mentioned, I love Turrican, Last Ninja, Bruce Lee, Exploding Fist, IK+ & most of the Dizzy games - Magic land likely being my favorite. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dizzy_(series). I too have lots of Powerpack games and many other games mag cassette tapes. Happy days.

How are C64 tapes and tape decks faring these days as a matter of interest?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,207 ✭✭✭Quigs Snr

remarkably well. About a year ago I had the C64 on the kitchen counter for a long weekend with terrible weather outside and loaded up pretty much every cassette. Only about 5% had an issue. And I am pretty sure most of those had that issue last time I saw them in the 90s.

The C64 itself fared a lot better than any of my Amigas all of which needed a recap (C64 did not)… and the cassettes seem to have endured 30 years of storage in various damp attics far better than the floppy discs for the Amiga.

Finally got around to Metroid Dread and have been very impressed so far, though it's a bit more linear than I was expecting based on its feedback. Controls are the best the series has even seen, which is great as even random mooks can decimate your lifebar if you're not paying attention — holy balls, everything hits you like you owe them money in this thing. I mistimed a jump on a boss and got three-shotted from a full health bar 3/4s of the way through the fight. It'd be infuriating if the game didn't control like a gold-medal figure skater.

I'm up as far as "We don't go to Ravenholm", and the game is just an absolute joy to play. It's obviously leagues ahead of the original on a technical level, and the world building is wonderful.

I'm playing it with the HL2 Update mod installed, and the Mmod too. I've turned off three settings, 1) Motion Blur (yuck), 2) HDR (far too high of an exposure), and 3) water effects simulating water roll and splash on Gordon's glasses (too distracting.) With these off, it's a fantastic way to enjoy the game with just a hint of modern updating going on.

    Loving it so far!

Taking the word 'playing' to new lengths here (!) but I was messing about with the Gameboy camera a bit last night via the Analogue pocket.

I had a bit of a brainwave that you can actually take gameplay screenshots with the Pocket.

This means you can take a photo with the Gameboy camera, take a screenshot with the pocket and then get your Gameboy pocket photos off the cart and actually onto an SD card/Computer.

Also, if you shine a **** load of light onto your face (a phone camera torch works well) you can really up the quality of portrait photos.

I think I might actually pick up one of those 3D printed lens adapters for a bit of fun.

The Gameboy camera is great. It was made by the team that would go on to make Warioware and you can tell by how weird it is and packed for of throw away fun gimmicks. Hip Tanaka provided some of the best music on the Gameboy.

Huh! I did not know that but now that you say it, it really has a very Warioware type aesthetic with the oddness of the menus.

Managed to get the screenshots off the SD card, it actually works really well. Say hello to my cats in 8bit monochrome form haha

Street figther is my fav, I love arcade games—their style and music are so cool! As a video game designer, they really inspire me. I also have a lot of fun with Tom Horn Gaming and enjoy spending time on Twitch following DiceGirl Egle, an expert slot streamer. My favs arcade game are: Pac-Man, Mario, galga, metal slug, sonic, and obviously MK.

Finished Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door last night. First run through it on the Switch. Great game for handheld mode, really suits it.

The level up mechanic coupled with the badge system is fairly simple on the surface but you can actually do quite a lot with it.

Definitely not the hardest game in the world, but just a lot of fun.

I do have some slight niggles, there's a lot of backtracking and at times, it does feel very much a game from 2004.

Have both Echoes of Wisdom and Yakuza Kiwami to move onto next. I reckon they might be my Switch Swansong before the Switch 2 is released.

I enjoyed Thousand Year Door a lot more than Origami King. I never got too far on the GC version, but I believe that one didn't have the shortcut hub to make the backtracking a little less annoying!

I'm playing Super Metroid on my Analogue Pocket. Wall jumps are not easy using it's D-Pad!

They are a much better experience than the horror collect-a-thon that is DK64

Yeah played the first one to death ...was great .the graphics blew my mind when it was first released , and they still do now .timeless

They are a strange design ,like they kinda look digitised rare style at the time like killer instinct but the animation is smooth as butter .

Anyway a real treat to play the 2nd a 3rd one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,708 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

I also forgot about the codes you had to write down in zombie ate my neighbours to continue on a level .

Now I recall that they used to be in loads of games, and I used to scribble them on the manual , or random bits of paper..90% of the time I couldnt read my writing or took them down wrong

My room looked like I was deciphering the enigma code

I'm up to Nova Prospekt in Half Life 2. The game is utterly brilliant. The world building, the sense of oppressive isolation in it, the wonderful set pieces...its a game I find myself really and genuinely looking forward to playing when I get a chance.

I'd forgotten just how good it is.

Ahhh brilliant game , such atmosphere, style and sfx/music. I absolutely love the start of it . That was groundbreaking for me .

I give the orange box a whirl when I can . Was a compilation released on Xbox with halflife 2 ..and episode 1&2. And tops it off with portal included
