Decent Raw, it's defo finding a rhythm on Netflix now. Good matches last night as well.

I struggle with the NXT of it all at times, tee bee haytch.

Glad we're past the days of the main event being decided the night right after the PPV and something needed to be done with all the past world champs hovering around but how many times are you going to do someone getting jumped backstage and Adam Pearce flapping his arms?

    Medics Medics

He treats his refs and security like shite

Raw was decent enough. SNME being so close to Rumble is a bad call, I think NBC plans when they air them but even still.

I'd have been much happier if the New Day won tbh but I do think they still have something worth capitalising on, they just need to do it soon. Instead of just having them give out to the crowd. I liked them complaining about their old entrance though.

Bayley going to RAw is probably overdue, mind you she needs an overhaul in general I think. Her and Roxanne could be a good programme to bring Roxanne to main. Rhea needs a story or her reign is gonna feel stale fast. Feels like we've seen her do this before.

Penta continues to look a star (the catherine wheel firework is awesome! His music sucks, get him something better), him and Dunne had a good match. Despite Dunne's weird promo being cut-off (which kinda suited his point I guess). Zoey Stark looked like she just about killed Dakota with that dropkick, she looked like she was gonna cry. PFC are so bleh.

Main event was a strong match. I also like the wrinkle between Kevin Owens and Sami even if I don't think Sami will get involved all the same. Was also intrerested in the American Made/Dom story. Saw some suggest it's an Aleister Black set-up.

Felt like probably what to expect from Raw on Netflix normally.

To go back to the discussion re crowd sweetening, here's a post from Rich Kraetsch of The Flagship Podcast with examples of recent sweetening. It's so egregious that it's impossible to ignore

That's locked behind a paywall so we can't see it. Even if you join the free one. Not aware of the podcast itself. That being said as much as I've heard suggestions that they're lessening the audio sweetening, there was definitely some funky audio stuff going on during KO/Sami last night. Sounded like an ambient crowd audio noise.

This post is viewable. The 4th most viewed show globally on Netflix, is pretty good though, no? Does anyone know how exactly Netflix monitors their views like this? I'm assuming views are how many people accessed the title and then hours watched is measuring essentially how many episodes or time those viewers watch.

I would also suggest that Netflix isn't expecting WWE to be the number one or most viewed show on their platform. They are hoping that it will consistently bring in an audience throughout the whole year. As opposed to their scripted programming which people can binge and then unsubscribe until it returns or until another show comes along. That's why sport is so coveted in the streaming landscape in general.

Not aware of the podcast itself.

I am, him and the other lad that do the Flagship podcast on that network absolutely hate the WWE product. They don't hide the fact.

On the Netflix earning call anyway Ted Sarandos was very positive

https://wrestlingnews.co/wwe-news/netflix-co-ceo-ted-sarandos-says-wwe-is-off-to-a-great-start-raw-drew-5-million-views-on-week-1-non-live-viewing-grew-by-25/ He highlighted that the audience grew 25% from the non-live viewing outside of the US and mentioned that the drew about twice that they did on linear tv and that was consistent with how they modelled it. I don't know if the ratings provided from Tumdum are first day viewing, or how it's established.

What I didn't realise is that apparently there's 92 countries where Netflix doesn't distribute WWE yet including France, Italy, Japan. Apparently India doesn't get it till April.

Probably to do with individual TV rights in those countries? I suppose we were lucky in a sense the TNT deal ran out around the same time the switch occurred

Yeah Germany doesn't get it yet either.

Is SNME included in the deal?

Oh it is for sure. For some reasons I just thought it was available more places than it is I guess.

I find it surprising that in the 3 episodes of RAW on Netflix that Bron Breakker hasnt wrestled once.. He was featured in the crowd twice and in a backstage scene with Seamus this week. He should be pushed more imo..

Has the product gotten more or less PG since moving to Netflix?

I'm thinking it will become gradually less PG with Trump back in power and seemingly determined to roll back liberal cultural changes.

WWE aren’t editing anything that was on the broadcast. There aren’t ads here in Ireland but in the US they got to ads. They also do interviews that we see here in Ireland, which are edited out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,245 ✭✭✭SteM

Why would they make it less PG? Their business is booming, no way they'll change their current style while the money is rolling in. It was brought up in this interview just before the move to Netflix.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,016 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Business is good, product isn't for me but it's hotter than it's been in God knows how long and money is flowing in.

Only things they will change is anything that Netflix specifically pushes for.

Best wishes to JD McDonagh who has apparently collapsed on his backstage, his head took some slap

Roman is 2k25, pretty sneaky from Drew there

Caught a clip of that spot, looked ridiculously sore

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 56,161 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Sami turning on Cody at the Rumble being nicely teased. Wouldn't be against it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,029 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I find it bizarre that JD was allowed to continue given his obvious state.

Looks very poor for the WWE management of its talent. I know they put themselves in danger of injury all the time, but I would have thought such an obvious head injury woulld be treated differentlly and they'd have taken him to the back long before the match ended.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,519 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Seemingly (and surprisingly) not a head injury

    Untitled Image

I'm sure the refs checked on him enough to see after the spot and during the match if he was showing signs of head damage, so let him continue not seeing any signs and making sure he was still lucid, not concussed etc. Adrenaline probably carried him enough to finish the match with broken ribs and a punctured lung though.

    Goddamn that was nasty though.

I think there has to be a point where, after a knock like that, regardless of whether or not he's saying he's ok, you call an audible and get him out of the match asap. It wasn't a main event match or anything important; grab him and say "better safe than sorry, let Dom go to the finish while you get checked out." Wrestling on, and taking more moves, while he has a punctured lung was a bad call, even if they weren't fully aware of how bad an injury it was.

Glad he's ok though. When I saw the clip, it really looked like a potential neck breaker.

Had to laugh at them bigging up that rapper being a massive wrestling fan, only for him to say "This is my first time at a match", the phrasing of which no wrestling fan would ever use.

Paul Heyman is gold on the mic, a good build for the rumble, no clear winner

Admittedly, I'm only watching clips the last few weeks, but I do like there's a few options for them.

I reckon it's Punk or Cena, with the idea of having those two face off vs Cody or Gunther at Mania in some form though.
