And you need all the paperwork to get the subsidy too. Hope you have withheld a substantial amount of the agreed price until all is resolved and you got the subsidy

Supplier does all the work for the grant, but you can see it all of you log in and check the application

I think the NC6 went in under the missus email so will have to get her to setup an account as I dont see anything under my esbn account /mprn.

It does show the below though, but suspect thats generic.

    Max. Import Capacity (MIC)

    12 kVA

    Max. Export Capacity (MEC)

    10 kVA

Are you sure it was NC6 that you applied for? That 10kVA MEC looks odd.

This dynamic pricing sounds like it will be a nightmare for OAPs and other vulnerable users, are there any opt-out mechanisms?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66,720 ✭✭✭✭unkel

It is an optional plan. Nobody is forced to take it.

Dynamic pricing is for Bleeding-edge nerds and Mr-T types only. R-rated and has a tick-box saying 'yes I kinda know what I'm doing'.

Where the super generous FIT was a pleasant surprise to all of us a few years ago, the flexible plans are a dead duck 😫

I can't see this being beneficial to anyone for years to come as long as we keep the EV plans of 5c / kWh and the like. Not until we have far more renewables on the grid and the wholesale price gets to vary a lot more (and regularly goes negative)

Yeah I'd tend to agree, I thought if there was a dynamic FIT as well then that would save it

But doing a scan of market data for the past few months, there doesn't seem to be any significant advantage of dynamic pricing over the likes of the Pinergy plan

Makes you wonder if Pinergy are making any money from that plan 🤔

The best we normally get on wholesale rates is about 10c / kWh. Add a likely 3c / kWh on top from the utility companies and we are talking 13c / kWh. That is more than 2.5 times the rate Pinergy charge us (5c / kWh)

That is more than 2.5 times the rate Pinergy charge us (5c / kWh)

    ?..Plus VAT @ 9% = 5.45…still very good rate.

With system losses up to 20% it can creep up toward a hefty 7cents :)

For me with almost no solar/no ev/no HP + 15kWh DIY battery/5kW Sunsynk…..pinergy costs between €1 and -€1 per day depenidng on actual load. I am hoping it will all average out close to zero over 12 months. Can import 15→19kWh each night (Battery+Immersion+Dishwasher) during EV rate. I export any remaining kWh in battery before the ev rate window starts using HA automation.

    ….long may it last!

Note: before the russian invasion of its neighbour…my electricity bill used to be around €3 per day. Then it jumped up towards €10 per day. So based on what I am reading here…not holding out much hope for an improvement with dynamic pricing

Last note on Pinergy…They had accumulated a huge credit via their level pay scheme, but quickly agreed to refund it all after I sent an email (as sugggested on Boards.ie). For me worth the inconvenience…but could be a bigger cash flow isssue for some.

Yep, they have no issue to do a bank transfer to your account once you are over €200 in credit. I think they pay me about €2000 per year 😁 That is a net payment so including all the electricity I use including 3 EVs. And more than enough left over to pay my entire gas bill for the year too.

I tried to renew the contract with them (still active until September), but they didn't let me. After the end of the contract, the current rates keep valid though. Long may it last is right…

I really don't see how Pinergy can keep that EV rate going, they must be banking on consumption outside the EV window to make up the loss

I think they've a big focus on business electricity which is probably more of a money maker and is conveniently more tied to the 9-5 times

Although I will say it is criminal that the local ice cream shop is closed at 3am 😂

There simply are only a few dozen of their customers nationwide like Irishchris and myself who actually make a few grand a year net out of them. Remember that their day rate is very, very high at about 37c or something like that

Yeah, and it takes a few years of setup + knowledge probably to have large solar setup, large battery, and home automation to run / fill everything in that window.

When I first moved to a short night rate slot, I'd stuff running outside the time window by mistake. So as you say, only a very small % nail it and just use that window and also export a load.

Looks like dynamic pricing is now delayed till 1st June 2026!!

Suppliers wanted to delay it because they weren't ready!!!

Another reason the private energy market doesn't work

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,112 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

I always find it funny how suppliers can just get out of their obligations by saying they "aren't ready"

I wonder if I can use the same trick to get out of any rate increases by saying I'm just not ready to pay that much 😏

It's no loss. Dynamic rates are only interesting when there regularly is too much supply of renewable electricity so the wholesale price goes negative. And shortage of supply so the price goes sky high. This is not the case in Ireland now and won't be for years to come…

I like from the article: "The new tariff – described as being suitable for “energy nerds” and not for all consumers by Bonkers.ie " 😂

I renewed my 2 year contract with Pinergy a few weeks ago. Another long stretch of buying at 5c and selling it straight back for 25c. Raining all day today, so very little PV, but I have already sold back almost all of the 30kWh I bought for resale this morning
