How is he taking a chance off a kk player, he IS a kk player 🤦🏻

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 703 ✭✭✭Mad about baa baas

It will be very interesting to see.how they go tomorrow. As others have said hopefully plently of the subs get a good run to see what they are made of..they will only improve by playing games..the man from kerry is different for us but i think if he is willing to put in the effort required as a top tier county hurler we should welcome him and support him..his hurling should come on by being part of what you would imagine is a more professional set up( insert enraged comment about the shambles of a county board here) and being surrounded by better players..

I think he deserves his chance as much as but not more than anyone else who accepts a call up

Ennis is a tough place to go and weather forecast is poor but it will.at least show us who is willing to put the effort in..

I think the league is a real breeding ground for Clare the last few years. Although they won it last year they blooded some good young players early in the campaign the last few years, some Clare players don't even bother play the league. Kilkenny on the other hand have found very little from the league the last 7/8 years and mainly played the older stock. Kilkenny are gone strong again and might catch out a Clare squad who are well behind.

what about the Kilkenny lads who deserve a go ffs putting a Kerryman ahead of our own isn’t ideal. Where are you coming from with all this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Marrooned

put yourselves in the KK players trying to make the starting fifteen, you couldn’t be happy with that situation leave it alone to the fact that he is not better than some of the players he is replacing. Is Lyng coming under pressure from the public to play him . All the posters should give a thumbs up or a thumbs down if they think the Kerryman is good enough or not. Black or white.👎.

More competition in the squad can only be a good thing.

Its not as if he's starting a championship match, it's the first round of the league.

I'm sure he'll be subbed off at some point tomorrow.

How would you know if he's good enough yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 703 ✭✭✭Mad about baa baas

I have no idea yet if he is good enough. He hasn't played a competitive game ..i am willing to give him the opportunity and support him ..he will either be an addition to the team or not..i don't see a downside to be honest..its not as if we have a panel full of all stars at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Marrooned

I saw him playing enough times. Before he even arrived here he was being lauded as a huge catch for O’loughlins which didn’t materialise. (He also done a born and bred O’loughlins man out of his place) now he is an asset to the gaels and should improve next year but not county material and if ye are all happy with that then I don’t know where we are going.

Derek isn't a fool, he's not going to hang onto him just because he's from Kerry.

Either he's good enough or he's not and that's up to Derek not boards.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Marrooned

I think we’ll leave at that. I’m sure you’re all going to Ennis tomorrow to see Fionnan in the flesh. And we will talk about it tomorrow night.

FrFrom What we are hearing here in Kerry.. Derek has told Fionan that the vast majority of the people in KK don't want him in the team or don't want him involved etc.. but Derek is giving him a chance to prove those people otherwise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭Sir Chaz

If Mackessy proves he's good enough, then he will be generally welcomed with open arms, whereas if it's debatable whether he merits his place or not, that's where the issues will arise.
You'll always get the few that will be opposed to it either way as a matter of principle and that's fine, but most people's minds will be made up by how good a hurler he proves to be for Kilkenny.

I wish him the best of luck and hope he proves to be an asset, but I have my doubts based on what I've seen so far.

The man must be feeling some pressure heading into the Clare game tomorrow if that’s what Lyng told him.

Tomorrow will tell if Fionan is made of the right stuff for the Kilkenny panel as Clare in Ennis is always a very tough fixture for any team, no matter who they have on their first 15.

He is a lot more ambitious than any of us in here typing about his demise behind a keyboard that’s for sure, takes balls to do what he has done.

Especially leaving behind a more comfortable set up where he was winning multiple All Stars for Kerry at Joe McDonagh level.

Look the bottom line is the chap wasn’t in Kilkenny a wet day and people think he merits a call up to our county panel. What kind of drugs are you smoking these days Rodney?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 703 ✭✭✭Mad about baa baas

Genuine question for you ..would you be happier if he performs well and adds something to the panel or he performs poorly and you can come back here and say to us I told you so. ..

I think its the latter which is a bit sad really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,288 ✭✭✭awaywithyou

Tbf to Marooned.. I think he is just unhappy about where KK hurling is at at the moment.. there is no way Fionan Mackessy would have made KK panel 10-15 years ago.. KK aren't as strong as they were then.. if KK don't win all-ire this year it will be over 10yrs since KK last won... who would have predicted that? I'm not an expert but could KK struggle to get out of leinster this year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 994 ✭✭✭DiscoStew

Having just won 5 in a row Leinsters, with Wexford decimated, you think Kilkenny could struggle to get out of Leinster? Absolutely no chance Kilkenny don’t get out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Marrooned

tell me the game you saw him playing that you said to yourself this man is a revelation and he should certainly get a run on the panel? Or are you following the crowd without even seen him as your name suggests “sheep”.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,673 ✭✭✭me89

You are on one this week, lets see how he goes 🤣

Any danger of this being called off before I hit the road or do we think it will go ahead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 703 ✭✭✭Mad about baa baas

To Be fair you are the one Marrooned on an island of one here i think

The man was consistently an all star at intercounty level albeit a lower level. He is willing to put in the effort to try and step up to this level knowing his every move will be scrutinised and judged harder than most. At the risk of being repetitive he will either make it or he wont..i dont see a Downside..

Anyway I think we can agree to disagree..safe travels to all those going.. its a rotten day

Best of luck to all the men wearing the black and amber today

Me89 just about to leave now, it’s fairly wild alright and it will be worse on the motorway with gales and driving rain. Beginning to wonder will it be called off. Let me know through the treads if you hear anything. Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 141 ✭✭neverbet

In Ennis and not ideal hurling weather by any means although looking at Met Eireann its worse in KK at the moment. I would say it will go ahead , but a very tough ask for the players. More like Walsh cup weather in years past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jamesbond2022

Christ mackessey has barely played a full game for kk

Lads need to relax on here and judge him like any other new comer on the panel and give them a few games before you make any call on whether there good enough or not

    Doesn’t matter where he’s from

He’s an easy target on here for people’s frustration I don’t see anyone going in on any of the thomastown tullougher or glenmore players added to the panel to the same extent

This attitude of he wouldn’t have made previous kk panels it’s not 2015 or 2005 lads need to start living in the present and not the past

He’s on the current panel now and needs to be given a chance

Have the TG4 player but only Gaelic Football showing, can't see any option to choose the hurling.
