Is that Richie Reid or Billy Reid wing back. I was looking out for Billy Reid and young Vereker, and also the other Beirne chap in the club campaign under 21 this year but they did not make it far, as i have seen very little of them really

Vereker is playing with Good Counsel today at 1.30 v Kieran's, on Clubber.

Beirne is not on panel I think? He's playing with DCU Fitz team as well.

St. Kieran’s and KK CBS both win today and will now meet in the Leinster final where CBS would fancy themselves.

Yes Kilkenny CBS defeated them already in the group stage putting up a big score. I watched back the Kieran's match on Clubber. Kieran's can thank Liam Lawlor in goal, Pulled off 2 massive saves when the game was close with 15 minutes to go. GCC had all the momentum and breeze and this would have put them ahead. Kieran's settled again and went on to win by 7/8 points and were the better team but they were big saves in context of the game

Kieran's and gcc was more competitive than expected. Noah Minogue and lauhoff were excellent. Jake Mullen was centre back surprisingly. Darragh vereker was outstanding in the second half for good counsel. Kieran's didn't threaten a goal at all but they'll probably improve. Not sure if they were missing anyone.

Thurles look very strong in munster. 28 points against de lá salle who have some good hurlers themselves.

Not sure Kieran's are as strong as previous years but they'll have too much for CBS you'd think, who by yesterdays teamsheet had I think 7 Minors starting. Kieran's have only one U17 and he's arguably the best 16 yr old in the country. Good few Kilkenny minors can't make the Kieran's panel, which tells its own story.
I looked at bits of both games on Clubber and the Kieran's/GC match was much higher intensity. I have a feeling CBS may have caught Kieran's cold the last day as they had already qualified for Semi Final.

I'd suspect the remaining Harty teams might be a cut above this year but time will tell. Kieran's have a lot up to the age which will give them a big chance.

I was at the first game, missed the first 10 minutes so didn't see any of Kierans goals but for the following 50 minutes CBS hurled the ears off them and I thought they were absolutely brilliant. Both teams appear on the young side and I think it'll be a rattling good game next week but with the age profile of both teams I wouldn't expect either team to win it all.

Comer into the B Leinster final as well. Well done to Peter Donovan....................

Kieran's had 10 starters up to the age yesterday, along with 4 U18's and an U17 so they wouldn't be on the young side overall. That will stand to them in the latter stages.

    I think Kilkenny CBS team yesterday breaks down as 3 U19, 5 U18, and 7 U17s.

CBS appear to play a lovely brand of hurling based on yesterdays game but Kierans better equipped to go deeper in the competition.

Ah apologies, I thought Kierans had a good number of TY and 5th years as well. Didn't realise they had that many lads in 6th year.

KK well represented tonight in the DCU v Maynooth game.

is Harry Shine a sub on the Maynooth team or is there a reason he is not starting ?

    I thought he did start?

Came on after 22 minutes according to report. Seems a lot of intercounty managers are restricting Colleges access to senior players, which I can't imagine the colleges are too happy with given the vast majority would be on scholarships.

Kilkenny management are usually ok to deal with in that regard. Especially when lads need games

Sunday, a fairly strong team, this will test the Kerry man.

I don't see Noel Doherty's name with the selectors, is he still suspended or did he go in as a selector/coach?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 662 ✭✭✭Neewollah

Would have liked to see more of the lads on the bench starting to be honest. They've gone as strong as possible. Unlikely to see much change from that team for rest of the year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Nedflanders02

I'd agree I'd have liked to see another couple of lads tried but I know 5 of the lads on the bench played Fitzgibbon last night or Wednesday night so maybe they're trying not to overload them this early in the year.

Is that last year's kilkenny minors can't make kieran's panel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭Sir Chaz

still suspended so couldn't be ratified at last meet I think

Strongs winds predicted so not sure how much will be learned from Clare match. I think nearly all last years league matches were affected by wind or rain. That is the problem with playing league matches in January/February

Personally I don’t think Mackessey merited a call based on the last two games I saw him playing against Waterford and Offaly and he is taking a chance off of a KK player I would have preferred if he tried Podge Moylan at fullback surrounded by the others that he named and see what he is made of, not that he is a Boro man but I think he might have potential. I also would not have picked Billy Ryan for the simple fact that he hurled a stormer in the last two games he came on in. (He might be more confident coming on).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭conor05

it’s clear Lyng wants a big powerful half back line for 2025, possibly eyeing up Mackessy for Gearoid Hegarty or Peter Duggan later in the year same height and Mackessy can also fix score form distance like Duirmuid Ryan & Kyle Hayes.

It also allows another big man like Blanchfield to move into and hopefully solve the no. 6 jersey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Marrooned

are you having a laugh or what Mackessey against Hegarty. No contest, Hegho wins all day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Village87

yeah 100.% Kerryman far to labored for Croke Park in the summer. Good to see Clare sit out 7/8 of there All Ireland final team . Interesting match Sunday. Kk by 3

Jaysus Village I hope you’re right going to Ennis a long time now seldom going home happy. The last good result was a last minute score by Kevin Kelly not even sure was it a goal or a point? I can’t think of when the last win was?

Best of luck to kk this weekend. I hear wally talking during the week and he said he never beat clare in ennis. Best of luck to mackessy,it was a big call to do what he done. There will be enough eyes on him and enough pressure on him already without our own lads not giving him a chance. I think he has the hurling but probably has a bit to go on the fitness side. He wil have to get a chance the same way others have got loads of chances.if he is good enough he will make it and if he isn't he won't. Its a big step up to this level. He got a point the last day and drove 3 wides.Offally did attack that side of the pitch and id expect clare to go after the same side sunday with himself and shane murphy. MRichie Reid probably isn't the answer anymore in the half back line. Podge moylan is worth a go alright and is honest as the days long but he was very niave for the waterford goal and bennets shot tallis saved. The only way he will learn is get experience but he isn't the quickest on his feet. He has a bit to go yet. As Village said a few weeks ago ennis isn't a easy place and if a few of them clare lively fowards get a run on you it could set you back like evan cody a few years ago.

Stamina has being a huge problem the last few years. Fading out of big games. The all ireland 2 years ago and the clare one last year. Hopefully this has being investigated in the off season and we see better results this year. Clare are missing alot of their all ireland team and after beating kk 3 times last year this is a game kk will2 have ear marked. Conditions are set to be very tough. This is a tough league and no one wil want to face the championship relegated and it would be great to start with a win but it looks like derek has picked up where he left off and picked a strong team with little experimenting. I understand there's college and players probably have niggles but kk need to find a few players.kk need Mullen and cody to step up this year and lead the attack. Need a much bigger workrate from cody and consistency from the both of them.

Despite some of the dòom and gloom here theres still a big appetite from players to represent kk.best of luck to all kk teams. There's a few young lads with potential in kk. Young verker, eoghan lyng, jeff neary. Marty murphy is a longer term project. He is very raw but could give us something different up top.

Wish Fionan the best of luck on Sunday.. an awful nice fella... I do think he might be too nice for the cut throat nature of Div 1 intercounty hurling... hopefully game will be televised and we see him in action.. I'd like to see KK posters here that not too keen on him relax a bit and see how he goes before jumping up and down bout him
