Well I know there has been debate over them and they used to be against regs, but installers are now fitting them and the SEAI are signing off on those installs for grant reviews.

It quietened down a bit here in Laois around half 6 so I got some more sleep in but now in daylight it's still pretty wild and sounds like it's picking up again in the last few minutes.

Some sort of banging and rattling so I'll have to go have a look and see.

Power or data went down at ~3 in the part of Donegal I have something remote I can monitor in; well before the warning started there.

How is Éowyn pronounced? Don't know it from LOTR…

My take would be Ay-oh-in, or Yo-in.

The 'travel journalist' on Newstalk yesterday morning saying that only turboprop flights would be cancelled and the other airlines would operate normally through it, because they have 'jets that are used to it' might not be called back.

Stepaside/Leopardstown here. We’re in a new house so the wind wasn’t that noisy. Power still on, no damage as far as I can see. I guess South Dublin missed the worst.

I travelled from Salthill down to Cork yesterday evening for a family event this weekend. In normal circumstances, I'd have travelled today, but this isn't "normal". I doubt I'd have slept last night at all if I were still in Salthill, and I almost certainly wouldn't have power. From what I've seen, the conditions in Salthill looked worse than I've ever seen, and I've seen some bad ones.

All I'll say is: This is what you get for naming a storm after a character in "Lord of The Rings".

I just got a text and email from Kildare County Council saying Orange Warning now from 7-11am Friday. Still says red on ME and Gerry Murphy live on the radio listing warning times, still said red to 11?

In fairness that fence looks like I could have blown it over with a fart.

Still very windy in the Rathfarnham area.
I don’t see any damage looking out the north side of the house.
Looking out the south side I can see a couple of old fence panels down on the neighbours side and large old trees, bending severely with the wind gusts.

Not too bad here in Dun Laoghaire. No sign of damage nearby, although I haven't ventured very far…

Still strong winds and gusts though.

I think the power might have gone out briefly overnight, as the alarm clock was flashing 00:00 when I woke up.

Sand comes to Ireland from the Sahara at times.

Dublin 18 update, some fairly strong gusts in the last few minutes, roof creaking again. Ventusky shows this it’s currently the worst of it for my area and will slowly start calming down from here. Doesn’t look as if the wind direction will change much which is helpful for South Dublin. The mountains do give some decent protection at times.

South Mayo inland rural. Still gusting powerfully here, house has withstood it so far with no local injuries that we know of. Power gone since early am and mobile internet connectivity is patchy.

Our views from the house have changed a bit as several mature trees have fallen. Just need to ride it out for the next few hours.

Stay safe all and thanks to all the contributors here over the last couple of days

    20250124_083225.jpg 20250124_083029.jpg

No power when I got up around 8:15, but I have this fantastic lttle manual espresso coffee maker, and with a half gas half induction stove, and the brioche I baked yesterday… not a bad start to the day.

Apart from baking, I spent the rest of the time yesterday prepping, rounding up loose stuff, weighing stuff down but mostly doing some rough carpentry to reinforce my lean-to wood shed to reduce the chance of the wind popping off the polycarbonate panels it's made of.

Did a walk around this morning and could hardly believe that there was no damage, and everything weighed down, stayed down. Being in north tipp on an exposed slope with large mature trees just 3m from the house to the southern side, I was really worried. I am so bloody relieved, I haven't the words.

Gave myself a big pat on the back. I'd love to know what the peak gust measured.

No Data, but doesn't feel Darragh levels up here in Roundwood, but partly due to the more usual wind direction. However, still enough to bring down at least one tree that survived Darragh et al. Still wild enough I'm not tempted to go and do a full inspection though! Still have power and broadband for now.

well done Gerry , like that Dundalk to Belmullet clarification on the sort of line below that whereby winds will begin to get lower from about 11. Very clear.

Great information in here from really educated posters and people giving their own updates. And I’m just glad we have a service like ME, lives were saved/protected tonight. Even our emergency responders and healthcare workers hopefully have less work because of these warnings.

I think people really don’t grasp what a difficult task it must be to try and make calls and manage this sort of event that is not 100% predictable.

There were some strong gusts last night I felt in Cork but nothing as bad as I was expecting thankfully. We do seem to have avoided the worst of it.

Be a bit worried for Sunday now though with the next storm as a lot of the damage on the west coast will still be getting fixed
