I hope they do a deep dive on the training ground upgrades when they are finished, will be interested to see the state of it then.

The overhead shot the athletic had of the training ground the other week (might be old) certainly didn't have me thinking its a top class environment.

Surely an overhead shot would only show what's outside and it's what's inside that would make it top class?

I just think Carrington looks like a club house beside the local pitches. The city campus looks like it's built to make an impression.

Though yeah, a large part of what could impress would be indoors.

It's definitely behind the times now. I trained at Carrington a number of years ago and it was top class at that stage but by all accounts it was unchanged since then.

It will never be like the City ground as it's more remote I think.

7 goals and 14 assists less for Garnacho in 9 more games than Kvaratskhelia

That's an old photo of Carrington though!?

The work done recently has it looking a lot better. Even simple things like the massive fencing and branding they have put around the pitches makes it look less like a venue for pub teams. Still a way to go to get it properly modernised, a mini stadium for youths etc would look great... I think they're pumping some money into the Cliff as well though.

the picture didn't have a date on it. and the article was last week. Dunno why you'd be incredulous that I could surmise it was recent? and I did say it could be old caus I didn't know!

Just had a look at the article, not sure how you missed the date.

We really need the crowd to be as noisy as possible tomorrow, I know we don't have much to cheer about but the crowd has been so flat lately.

Much closer and Garnacho played less games

Totals for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Last 3 Seasons):

    Goals: 30

    Assists: 13

    Appearances: 107

Totals for Alejandro Garnacho (Last 3 Seasons):

    Goals: 24

    Assists: 10

    Appearances: 91

lol, fair nough. completely missed that alright, as evidenced by me saying i didn't know it was old.

weird they'd use an old phot in the article, with work having been done since.

I live a 2 min drive from the Etihad so I pass the stadium and the training campus a lot and it does make me a bit jealous. Would love United to keep on developing Carrington but also build an academy stadium, ideally next to Old Trafford if possible as the academy and women’s team playing in Leigh is 15 miles away from Old Trafford.

I had hoped we'd repurpose old Trafford into a women's stadium. Keeping the core of it. Apparently not feasible though.

There was also early talk about United looking to buy a local golf corse twice the size of the current training complex and building a new centre there (plus small stadium?) but I assume the 50, million spent on Carrington means there's no move away from there in the next decade is so.

Never understood the whole thing about the women's team. Like I support man united the team for the history and the players that I grew up watching.,Womens football for me is just manufactured I couldn't give a toss where they play. It's like mls clubs they are basically franchises living off the name of the men's football.

There's a place for women's professional football and it should be allowed grow with it's own fan base but should also be doing it on it's own back.

Can't agree with that. I'm the same as yourself, free up with UTD being men's football.

The women's team are making strides (not that I follow the league and the only info I get is from the UTD athletic podcast)

Its impossible for it to grow off its own back, the men's owners are also the women's with shear limited money they want to spend on the women, because A) the quality is not as good, B) the money behind it isnt televised so isn't worth the club spending massive amounts on it.

The league is getting bigger though and bringing in crowds. The WWC final had some big numbers I believe.

They'll always be seconds to the men's in league stature, money, and viewership but let them thrive.

Utds women's team first game was vs a team from Ireland in 1986. Means nothing but can't discount there's history there and there is zero harm in letting that side of the club grow.

Still wouldn't go out of my way to watch a game but I see zero harm in it growing withing the club.

My view on the women's team changed over time. I used to think there was no real reason for united to be involved, no moral obligation.

But then I brought it back for myself to what united, and any club, is supposed to be. Are they simply a business whose focus should be on maximising value which would then be centred around the revenue driver, the men's team.

Or are they at their core an institution of the community?

At the lowest level, where we'd talk about the youngest sides at the club, what should united be doing?

Should we have mixed u8 sides? Boys and girls sides? Only boys sides? Imo if the argument is boys only then you are also pointing towards the u8 side should be managed and driven by a revenue and talent generation goal completely. Buy abd sell, promote and cut 8 year olds based on the first team needs?

Imo it is right that we gave girls teams, while their should be an eye on the best talents, of course. Once we have girls sides it's an easy path for me to think we should have a women's side. And that side should be treated as a part of the club in general.

Where you then fall on a budget conversation is much tougher. Where it's not tevenue generating should we sacrifice the spending power of the men's team to subsidise the women's team, and how does that endanger the general revenues of the club?

Pretty much agree with Mitch. We should have a girls and women's team and we should encourage and coach them to be the best they can be. But we should not be spending huge chunks of the revenue brought in by the men's side on it. Maybe in time when we're out of the financial sh*t show we're in now then we could spread the wealth a little bit within reason.

Of course there should be a women's team. Playing for Manchester United was my dream growing up! I told Don Conroy ón a School visit that I'd be the first girl to play for man united's men's team 😂😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,179 ✭✭✭NITRO95

And now we are about to see the first £1m women's transfer. The club absolutely should have a women's team and the club generates so much money that the men's team financing the youths and women's teams shouldn't be an issue. Obviously we know we aren't there yet but we will get there. Manchester United Women challenging for the WSL should be celebrated. I'm not saying you need to know every player or watch every game but I wouldn't want them to be dismissed as unimportant

    we love a bit of transfer creep. i presume we'll do a deal like €32m + €5m in add-ons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

From what I was reading yesterday, we have limited PSR space and as things stand basically our money for Dorgu is limited by the PSR space. Ie. if we have 5m in space that accounts for a transfer fee of 25m - so our 'committed' transfer fee has to be less than that. So i can see us getting closer to the figure they want, but in bonuses, and bonuses that won't be triggered til next season.
