You must be. I think I could have fun in the basic Spring.

Maybe Mark or Derek will do a test drive of it for us.

When you think about it my tmax 500 cc scooter has 40 Hp lol.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,396 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

The 65 hp would be more than enough but would struggle on the motorway as EV Torque falls off a cliff at higher speeds especially noticeable in lower power cars so this is where a gearbox might be useful ?

In reality most cars now are far too big and powerful with people speeding with just a blip of the throttle especially on back roads and in town, cars are too powerful today in my opinion.

any questions about it, shout. Set the charging schedule to do 2-4am and it briefly says charging delayed on the Zappi (as would be normal) and then about 10 seconds later the car clicks and starts charging at .2kW. Displays that the charge is not due to start until 2am in the car. Remove the schedule from the car screen and it charges at 6.8kW straight away (as it should).

Nothing wrong with the charger, it charges my family car overnight during the lowest price energy no problems.

Typically the zappi "tests" the car when plugged in to see if it is ready to charge, or if a timer in car is preventing it and to see if the car says can charge at 3kW or 7kW rate. It does this to update the app as to car plugged in and pausing for example and also if you want to boost a certain amount of energy it needs to know how fast car charges. It typycally stops after 60 seconds. If you continue to have an issue phone myenergi during office hours when at the charger. They have hundreds of settings such as compatibility mode and have experience if work around and updates for specific EV models. For example they got Tesla to work correct and had a work around until Tesla fixed an issue their side. Many cars struggle with the variable speed charging a zappi needs and it's ramp up and ramp down and wait type charging which is great for solar. You can always use a timer in the car and leave zappi on fast.

did it last night and it did the .1/.2kW again and displayed ‘charging delayed’ as would be the norm. Just haven’t seen it do that before when charging other cars.

Actually feck my last thought. Have you seen how much the monthly is on one of these? €500 a month 😞

That's not cheap. I remember when a Clio could be got for €40 a week.

If 17k is cheap, then it's cheap. Not sure what relevance a car price from some indeterminate point in the past has to with it.

Not many cars you can pay off in three years at €500 a month.

Might be cheap if you have the cash not if you are paying monthly though.

Cheap is a relative term. Relative to other new cars it's cheap. Relative to a bicycle it's expensive. What you can afford is a completely different thing.

Come on you must know how daft that sounds. There is no such thing as 'the monthlies' that's a human construct. Car is 17k and that's it. And that's the cheapest car I know of in this country.

Cost v cash flow are 2 very different things and it's a trick the motor industry are pulling on the financially illiterate.

You could get a 10 year personal loan and pay it back at 150-180 a month whatever it would be and it doesn't change how cheap or expensive the actual car is. But makes it very easy on cash flow each month.

The car i have ordered is advertised on manufacturers website at 319 per month pcp and you could buy 3 Dacia Springs for it. I don't know exactly what 'my monthlies' will be but I know the exact euro cost of the car and I know how much I'm getting in SEAI grant and VRT relief and I know it's at 0% over 48 months

    Are you sure?

I thought the Hyundai inster was cheaper.

Good point. Does anyone actually do that I wonder.

    Is that the Cupra?

On that actually and it's the reason I game on here tonight. My sister is looking to buy an electric car for €350 a month and has a 21 Clio to trade in. What is there in that range?

What is a 21 clio worth? In around 15k or so?

For 350 a month she can have the topic of this thread, a brand new Dacia spring. Trade in the clio, pay 350 a month to a bank or credit union and own the spring outright after about 6 months.

Or she could buy something really nice in the 50k bracket, say a kia ev6 in high specification, trade in the clio, pay 350 a month for 36 months and still owe 20 to 25k at the end and be almost forced into starting again or get another loan to buy it out.

Or she could go anywhere in between, say a low trim vw id3, trade in the clio pay 350 for 36 months and owe a small amount at the end, maybe buy it out then and own it

So there you have it, a 17k car, a 30k +car and a 50k car all available for the same 350 a month

I thought the Hyundai inster was cheaper.

No, the Inster is at least 2k more. Just hailed as a bargain because of what you get for the money.

The only thing cheaper than the Spring and in any way resembles a car is the Citroen Ami. But arguably that's more like a quadricycle or an "electric moped on 4 wheels" than a car

The Hyundai Inster, BYD Dolphin, MG4 and the upcoming Citroen C3 are all more expensive cars but some might feel that these cars offer better value as they are bigger, have better range and better tech etc etc.

But the Spring is factually the cheapest electric car on the Irish market

Depends how you define a car. To some 4 wheels and a roof are enough. It's also taxed and insured as a car in Ireland. I certainly don't think anything without 4 seats and a boot can be classed as a car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,497 ✭✭✭MarkN

That’s just to satisfy our greedy revenue rules. It’s a quadricycle, it states so on Citroen’s own website.

That should be quite manageable for her, but please don't put too much importance on the monthly payment. It's one of only 3 elements of what you are actually paying for the car. D

    vs Inster

    image.png

so first of all for Inster add the cost of credit to the total cost of the car.⇒ 21k Then consider that you have to bring 14.75k made up as 6.65k upfront and 8.1k at the end of credit period. Does it still sound cheap?
