45 and 65bhp, 30kW DC on the 65bhp, 7kW on the 45. €16,990 for the entry car, just under €20,000 for the higher spec 65bhp. 26.8kWh battery, up to 225kms range.

I'll be honest, just don't see the appeal of this car. I'd rather get a 2nd hand Id3 etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,497 ✭✭✭MarkN

at the higher price new, I’d agree. It’s quirky, it’s fun but a new Leaf ain’t much dearer or as you say, a used ID.3.

BUT… if you’re buying on finance, it may be the cheapest monthly option.

    Lol , I'd rather get a 2nd hand ICE, oh wait ………………

30 Kw charging means nothing without knowing the charging curve, it's quite pathetic really. It's still a fair chunk of money for such a limited car.

Ask and ye shall receive. It's not bad actually.

I test drove the Spring at the Nevo show. My main gripe was that the seats aren't height adjustable. I'm 6'1 and my eyeline was way to high which is a deal breaker for me. Much preferred the Inster albeit it's more expensive - in fact I put a deposit on one at the weekend.

I also test drove the car at NEVO. It is a cheap car and it shows everywhere. The gear selector is in a awkward position. I feel I need to search for it. Having said that it drives nicely for a town car. I would see this as an ideal carsharing proposition. Not in Dublin though as there are no AC charging spots in the town. It is only 65bhp but driving it around RDS I didn't feel the need for more. It goes to 50km/h fast enough. I see it as a beginner or school run or Sunday mass car quite easily. Sandero start at 18k, the CVT version probably more. Price wise, I would have expected a bit less like 1.5k-2k less but probably China import levy got a say in this matter.

It's not good either and I wonder how bad that will get if it's cold ? it could be a lot worse.

It's supposed to be a cheap run-a-bout but I think a lot of people wanting a cheap run-a-bout would look at this and say, that's a very expensive, very limited run-a-bout when they can get a cheap ICE car for much, much less with no limitations. I get the idea people want cheap EV sure but a Leaf cost 25 K if I remember correctly when the face lift came out in 2013, there was a much more basic mode.

The leaf 24 Kwh had more interior room, more powerful motor and slightly higher fast charge power.

A cheap-run-about if someone wanted a cheap EV would be a 2nd hand 24 Kwh Leaf or maybe Ioniq 28 Kwh.

Do Nissan still offer battery upgrades for the 24 Kwh Leaf ? might even be a cheaper option.

Depending on charge cuve the inster looks a far better car.

I've a feeling the Spring should be even cheaper than it is.

I just read this thread from the start.

IMHO the €20.5k Leaf 40kWh blows this out of the water, a proven car with fast charging (albeit not CCS but that really is not as big an issue as constantly implied on this forum), much better comfort and spec, app and overall package.

I'd even go for a 2019 out of warranty M3 over this and we are into that price range now

getting close alright, a 5 year old M3 with 60,000kms wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.

20.5 K leaf ? on the Nissan website it says from 23,500 Euros.

Someone posted above that the 65 Hp for 18,500, that's 5 K in the difference and I agree the leaf 40 Kwh is afar better but in my opinion the Leaf 40 Kwh should cost 18,500 at this stage ffs.

Strip out all the gadgets and tech ****, install manual climate, halogen lights etc, F1ck LED lights etc, all they do is blind oncoming traffic, manufacturers need to get real and realise that many people want cheap A to B transport and not interested in all the tech crap or rather not pay for it.

Nevermind a 40 kWh Leaf, if the Mk1 Leaf 24 kWh was still available brand new for around 20k in 2024, even considering what we know about battery deg etc. it would be better than the Spring in many ways.

IMO and considering its origins and limitations, the Spring is 5 years too late and/or 5k too expensive. It's bad value compared to Dacia's petrol Sandero and the Inster EV, far superior cars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,396 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

It's bad value considering from an non EV enthusiast point of view it's severely limited in range and charge times and offers a lot of inconvenience vs the petrol versions.

It's a real shame Dacia stopped selling LPG cars here in Ireland, most likely because they stopped in the U.K because LPG died off there seemingly. There is an LPG station only a few kms away from me selling LPG for around 0.96c a Litre if I remember correctly. I'm half thinking getting my Kia T-GDI converted.

The Leaf 40 Kwh is 23.500 Euros not 20k according to the Nissan website.

Cheapest new Duster (26k rrp) has LPG so they are at least still trying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,396 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

You sure ? nowhere did I see Dacia selling LPG, even my local dealer said they haven't for a couple of years. Even their pricelist they showed me didn't have any LPG options.

With the chademo-ccs adapter I don't think there's any cause of concern for leafs anymore. A 3 year old leaf should set you back about 15-16k, add 1k for the adapter and there's no real limits to it anymore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,396 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

Yeah but what normal person would want to pau 1K for an adaptor ? that's madness !

I think that makes perfect sense if you want to be charging out and about, leaf being so cheap now adding 1000 still represents excellent value

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,825 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

There were posts here and on FB, Mullingar Nissan selling new L40 for €20.5k

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,720 ✭✭✭BrianD3

Yep. the TCe 100 is LPG according to the below pricelist. As this is also the cheapest model, it stands some chance of sellng and not being dropped like every other Dacia attempt at LPG.

    https://www.dacia.ie/CountriesData/Ireland/images/PDF/pricelists/dacia-pricelist.pdf

So just over 7k more than the 65 bhp Spring - and vastly superior.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,497 ✭✭✭MarkN

LPG model available here. It can just run as a normal petrol car too obviously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,396 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

Wow, amazing thanks, yeah, I think when I was in in the Summer the new one wasn't on the options list so that's really great to see and modern engines run great on LPG.

I suppose LPG would be great for direct injection engines too because there'd be far less carbon build up on the injectors, depending how much one would use the LPG.

It would be good to see dacia and other manufacturers offer more LPG options.

I was thinking about getting my car converted to LPG, it would be around 1500 euro but I'd be worried about what the insurance crowd would think about it. having a LPG station 10 mins away is a Big +.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,761 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Is it though? Considering you could be saving multiple times that on the car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,163 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

Nissan really missed the boat not switching to CSS at least on new cars. That and the lack of their own adaptor gives me the vibe they don't really care.

The Dacia needed faster charging to compete and be cheaper. I'd struggle to buy either over a used ID3 or similar, and I don't like the touch controls in the ID3. But that's easier to live with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,163 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

In fairness that's a lot of bang for buck especially if you mostly home charge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,396 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

I don't think many people would want to pay 1000 euro for a plug in fairness. Enthusiasts will hand out all sorts of money on EV but the average joe is a lot more sensible in my opinion, these are the people that probably hang on to their cars a lot longer too.

Do Nissan still sell batteries for the Leaf 24 Kwh for 5,000 Euro ?

If someone desperately wanted a cheap EV maybe they could find a Leaf for 3-4 K and install a new battery that would be in my opinion far better option than a new Spring.

I can't remember whether they sold new or reconditioned batteries ? if they were reconditioned I wouldn't be interested.
