You rarely listen to Today FM anymore because how how quickly they stop playing Christmas songs once Christmas Day has passed? 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,103 ✭✭✭fire_man

No the cash machine and song choice the main reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 923 ✭✭✭radiotrickster

I find it baffling to see so many people here claim they rarely/never listen to the station but then feel the need to jump in and comment on it. Life is too short to spend it thinking about things you hate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 187 ✭✭EveryoneKnowsNobodyCares

Maybe they feel bereft because the corporate playlist algorithm has replaced a once great station with machine-driven monotony and the presenters lack autonomy and/or engaging content.

Let's not get carried away, 12 years ago people around here were complaining about Today FM, at least it's talked about I guess. https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2056854951/today-fm

A lot of people have no choice either through work or if they have kids in the car on the school run etc.

I'm in Cork and Red FM and 96 FM aren't any better but my kids like the shite they play so I endure it, would be good if they could on occasion play something that isn't generic drivel

Looks like this is fixed, although I haven't tried it yet.

I see Louise Cantillon's latest jingle is one about the Three Euros and her suggesting to play The Auld Triangle back when she was at school. Heard it for the first time on Saturday I think. Let's see how long it lingers for.

Had her show on for a few mins yesterday (the station I was listening to was going through static so had to switch) and she was going on about the high heels she was wearing to work giving her the 'ick', as if she was forced into wear them.

    Quality radio I must say.

My wife, usually passive to radio DJs, even said 'you give me the ick Louise'.

Oh and she completely talked over possibly the best ending going at the minute (Gigi Perez), cardinal sin.

The ‘content’ of Louise Cantillon’s show is shocking. It’s only two hours long and it seems like she just doesn’t know how to fill it.

They should swap her out for Quilty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,592 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

Quilty doesn't want a full time show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 836 ✭✭✭supereurope

I gave up on it a while back. It's really bad.. was there literally no one else available?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 923 ✭✭✭radiotrickster

Either Dara Quilty turned it down or they couldn’t have him on for gender balance reasons. If he got the job, you wouldn’t have a female host from 6am-7pm. The only female voices would be newsreaders and any of the producers who chip in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 836 ✭✭✭supereurope

Fair enough, I appreciate the role had to go to a female presenter…but surely there has to be someone better than Louise? It's a really bad show. I'm barely clinging on listening to Dave, but the station is definitely switched at midday.

The sooner the better they get rid of that oddball completely, nevermind giving him a show of his own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,547 ✭✭✭JoeA3

Quilty is easily one of the best presenters they have, he’s in a completely different league to Cantillon. It can only be of his own choosing that he isn’t in a regular daytime slot. He seems to spend a fair bit of time state side.

Was Louise's show today from 1 to 2 using the auto DJ? She was on about having a half day after their big campaign and she was going to use the auto DJ from 1 to 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 923 ✭✭✭radiotrickster

I took that to be a joke but I must have a listen back.

I did hear her asking what you were manifesting for Monday. Only a month or two back, she was asking what people were manifesting as well.

Has she really already run out of things to talk about?

Fwiw I really like Louise. She's got a bubbly personality and a good voice for radio. She also sounds like she's genuinely happy to be on air and that to me, is infectious and can't be said for everyone on-air!

That said, I would like to see her carve out a few features of her own or some more items and a format that set her apart from other daytime DJs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,592 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

Ya she's inoffensive for the most part. Her show is just fluff with the usual mix of Today FM music thrown in. She doesn't have a thing as such eg Dave's Bad Jokes, Music Master etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,129 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Even something like Ian's celebrity news, which could be extended a bit as a feature. She'd be good at the goss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,601 ✭✭✭paddylonglegs

today fm did have a lot of these features on most shows going back a few years. Always some one from sports going through more in depth reports, another talking about finance, music, movies (Ciara king is a regular with foley now), the “mind yourself now” section on d&d, even live bands playing in studio is gone. So much of these have been dropped and I would say were a real benefit to solo presenters who needed to bounce off people. These contributors also don’t get a single bean of payment for their appearance so it’s not like it’s costing the station. I’m sure they’ve milked absolutely everything from the Carlow Weather chap considering the impending storm on Friday.

heard a bit of DJ Jayo today for the first time in years . Never listen to today fm having spent a good 10 years as a loyal listener. Have to say it made me laugh. Childish but funny. Heard a bit of Louise Cantillon before it. I’m really not her demographic so nothing more to be said.

John Gibbons showed his true colours on The Last Word this evening. It sparked the most furious response I've ever heard to a contributor on a radio show.

Well worth a listen back to his comments and the dozens of messages read out after it.

I'd say there might be some Green companies shying away from using John for PR or lobbying after that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,601 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Did i hear some promo on TodayFM today about Roe McDermott and giving out about men?

She'd need to look a little bit closer to home before she rants about men.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 512 ✭✭✭Coolcormack1979

can’t stand him giving his anti farmer beliefs but my god he was such a person this evening.utterly scandalous that he’s allowed on to peddle such nonsense and nasty statements.

Who’s funding gibbons and his green bull stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,263 ✭✭✭TaurenDruid

His "true colours", lol? He was being honest - if your house is actually an A-rated house, then it really shouldn't be getting that cold that quickly. So that points to a dodgy BER cert/inspector - "Why do you need a cert? SEAI grant? Yeah, you need to go up a rating… here you go. That'll be €250, please!"

So you agree that the texts that were coming in from people who either made up the stories they were telling or were from bots? Cos that's what John told the listeners.

You obviously don't know what your talking about either. If the power went out in your A rated house last Friday at 2.30am, with temperatures in low single digits and wind chills below -5, do you think it would still be warm 72 hours later, nevermind a week later.
