From a quick look on its calendar it’s booked solid till July. At least 50 shows/events on its 2025 calendar

Fontaines are exclusive to ATN for the summer. No promoter would book an act to headline a major festival here and let them do others show in the republic, it’s written into standard contracts as a radius clause.

can we have a second thread for this ongoing dispute?
whilst I’m probably leaning a little towards one side than the other, it can be annoying to logon and see over 20posts and there’s no real news.

I try to ignore, but when a poster consistently states falsehood as fact then I often feel obliged to correct.

Fontaines were playing a summer headline show here according to yourself.

Realistically yea they are exclusive but what’s the point pretending you know when you consistently get it wrong about Fontaines.

Obviously I've no proof but I would guess he is right about the exclusivity thing, yes its not always published what the contract includes but kinda makes sense. Any festival like ATN or EP will want their biggest acts to not play any other big gigs anywhere else in Ireland because they want to be able to say oh if you want to see Fontaines DC, CMAT or Bicep etc. in Ireland during the summer/rest of the year you need to buy a ticket for this festival. If Fontaines were also able to do other headline gigs in Ireland then they might choose that gig over ATN so makes the festival less appealable for their fans.

EP is probably a little bit different since its sold out before any act is announced so they can get away with the likes of Noah Kahan or Picture This doing other headline shows leading up to the festival.

Excellent news, would've sworn they played here in 2024 not 2023

That last gig was a cracker too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 789 ✭✭✭Duffy98

They played November 2023 in the 3, it was an absolutely class gig id have preferred another gig in the 3 but in fairness they sold it out no problem,

Only gig I've been to in the 3 where security has to be put in the middle of the standing area because of all the moshing 😂😂😂

Was thinking of it last week, thinking would love to hear more from ITNR live but would have to travel this year to do that. But now I don't, so hopefully get some more ITNR stuff

The same poster (before the ATN announcement) had stated that the Fontaines were playing a Dublin outdoor show. The band are a coup for the festival and won’t be able to impose strict conditions on them in the way that EP could. What they can restrict is the timing of any other announcement. Thus if the Fonts have an August or September gig in the capital they’ll not be able to announce it until a few days before or after ATN.

My Castlebar prediction btw was for 2025 or 2026.

Other bands playing ATN have historically had other gigs in Ireland. Many Irish acts play EP also. Orbital played Galway six days before appearing there in 2019. Another 2025 headliner Bicep are playing Belfast three weeks after ATN. In terms of radius it’s a shorter drive by 20 mins from Dublin. And with vastly superior transport links so there’s absolutely no exclusivity there. You can forget about mention of the border. Tis a small island.

In summary, with the entire absence of any facts, the lad is once again spoofing. Consistency becomes him.

for at least the last five years you deny the existence of exclusivity clauses for summer shows in ireland.
You said two door cinema club were a sure thing for EP 2024 even though they had a summer outdoor tour around the country. You said the same thing when lcd soundsystem were announced for malahide castle last year that they were likely for EP and not ruled out.
pretty sure you said Liam Gallagher was likely as well for EP on his definitely maybe tour after the Dublin/Belfast summer shows were announced.

As I said originally the exclusivity clause for summer shows in ireland only applies for Republic of Ireland. Belfast is treated as its own market and promoters never deem a Belfast show to be a conflict with an EP/ATN or Dublin summer show.
This is my final comment on this matter. As it’s boring everyone.

Seathrun v Fanirish for National stadium this Feb.

    No exlusivity clause

It'd be better in a mid sized venue but sadly there isn't the market for it apparently.

2/5ths of them being from the area originally is pretty irrelevant.

Acts that play to 1500+ in Dublin get pitiful sales in 1200 Galway venues and get downgraded to 200 capacity venues.

No-one is underestimating the size of the band. You are, as usual, massively over-estimating the demand and potential audience in the west of Ireland, for your own personal reasons/desire.

Fontaines DC playing a 25k gig in Castlebar is frankly absurd. And it's a political stunt from a councillor who wants to get his name in the paper (job done). He's tabling a motion to ask the council to vote to approach the band's management to explore the possibility of a gig. This is basically just a random idea some councillor has had one evening. And now you're taking it as a given that it's going to happen in either 2025 or 2026. Remove the blinkers.

Funny how you arrogantly demand accredited sources proof of what Farnirish says, yet confidently state what you believe are multiple clauses of the contract between ATN and Fontaines DC, without a shred of proof.
You're just as much of a spoofer. You've zero clue what the conditions or clauses are in the contract between ATN and the band.

@Fanirish No denial of the existence of exclusivity clauses ever. That's a lie. Of course I'm aware they exist having worked for two decades in drafting contracts. No mention of Liam Gallagher. Another falsehood. You're mixing up posters I believe.

My final reply to the above poster on this matter you'll be glad to hear.

Fanirish says there's an exclusivity deal in place for the Fontaines at ATN. I asked for proof. Not arrogant as when something is presented as fact then it must be backed up. When asked the response was then 'it's usual' or 'it should' be there. That's never the basis for a statement given as fact.

Please point to where I stated that I had knowledge of the contract. You understand the difference between supposition/hypotheses and proof? I am aware that an exclusivity clause is possible but similarly to the other poster I do not know. The difference is that I do not claim to know. A radius clause was mentioned by Fanirish and I am aware that fellow ATN headliners Bicep are playing another Irish gig in August which is closer to Dublin than Curraghmore. Why confidently state (without evidence) that one act are bound to a clause when another clearly are not?

Pillow Queens usually play 300/350 capacity venues in Galway and Leisureland an over-reach. The Roisin long sold out for the date & venue change. No 200 capacity venue in the city.

Acts that play to 5k (Pixies, Waterboys, etc) in Dublin play to the same in Galway. Acts that play in Phoenix Park (Ed Sheeran 2018) sell 52k in Galway over two nights. People travel for gigs. We can play with numbers all day but the demand is there. If there's an available venue for bigger gigs people will go.

The surprising reaction started to a suggestion that a band play a gig in a part of the country that is home to two members and where they'd like to play. Am surprised by the virulence of the response and the adamance that it could never happen. The Fontaines have 4m monthly listeners, and growing. There is enormous momentum. The mention of Castlebar originates from the band themselves, not from a random local councillor. The catchment area is the whole of Connacht (and beyond) and rather than over-estimate the demand I believe that you under-estimate it. They're too big for the Galway Big Top or Airport unless they do multiple nights and that ain't happening. So where do they play on the west coast? Thomond and Pearse are options but Tom said they wanted it to be in Mayo. Let's see but should they tell the promoters to schedule it then it'll happen.

People also travelled from throughout the country to the December gigs they played at the 3Arena, a great many from the west coast. Four pals of mine for starters but we're not dealing in anecdotal stuff. Fans who wouldn't shell out for the 3Arena and possibly for accommodation may prefer a 60 min drive to Castlebar and be in their hometown pub by midnight. Many would travel to Castlebar for a gig as they do to Kilkenny, Cork, Limerick, etc for other artists. There's also the novelty factor, no big gigs in Mayo since the Westport Festival ceased. May happen, may not, in the hands of the band.

Can we move the infighting to another thread?

In fairness like, we got a class announcement this morning for Qotsa and Amyl and the sniffers, we should be buzzing, I'm delighted anyway 😅
