Are 3 Phase Smart Meters Being Installed Yet?

I got a 3 phase meter installed for a new build house July, at the time ESB had said that smart 3 phase meters would be coming later this year.

Does anyone know if these are actually being rolled out yet?

I'm keen to swap to one if possible but I suspect I might be waiting a while.

Kewl. Are you doing anything interesting with the 3 phase?

Just as a follow up on this I finally have my very large solar/battery (40+kw of panels, 60kwh of batteries) system up and running after huge delays.

I also have the install registered with ESB so my electricity supplier should be able to see it's there and I'll start getting paid deemed export rates.

Now I need to get a Smart 3 Phase Meter installed so I can proceed to next part of plan (charge batteries cheaply at night, run house off this and export most of what I generate and start to recoup the costs of the install. I can see the rates paid falling substantially over time so I'm worried about potentially having to wait a year+ to get the smart meter install.

What I'm wondering is does anyone have any experience in getting a smart 3 phase meter installed?

I have no contact in Electric Ireland (current supplier) so sending them a general message I suspect is unlikely to result in anything too helpful.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I suspect it's the kind of thing that if I found the right person in ESB/Electric Ireland I could get it done quickly but otherwise I'll potentially be waiting a long time! I had a similar experience trying to get a Virgin Media cable run from the street into our house. I had about a year+ of ringing customer service regularly and them saying they'd get someone to contact me (never happened), when I eventually managed to get the mobile number of the guy that did this in the company I had it done in a week!

Any help would be much appreciated!

According to ESBN networks it just states 2025, a farming article from a April 2024 had mid 2025 start time and the latest was from parliamentary questions in November pushing 3 phase to Q3 2025!

Thanks for that. That really does not sound too promising, I first looked at this in 2022 and it was meant to be coming the next year, looks like they just keep pushing it back.

Just consume as much as possible of your PV and use as little as possible from the grid through the night etc and take the deemed export, have you worked out the math on your deemed export? What inverter have you?

Thanks, yes at the moment we'll just look to everything ourselves and then flip this when we have smart meter.

At this time of year generation is minimal (even with the 40kw of panels) but the issue will be in the summer when we'll be exporting tones for free. We are often away for a few months in summer also so will be missing out on getting paid for a lot of export then. Maybe I should set it up to offer free EV charging to neighbours rather than give away for free, we have a 22kw Zappi out front:)

Am just keen to get the smart meter ASAP as the whole financial logic of getting the system is based on being able to get paid to export/charge cheaply at night. Till then it will never pay off in any meaningful way.

FYI I have a 3 phase smart meter that was installed as part of my house retrofit, was installed towards the end of last year in Dublin.
starting to think I might have to upgrade my 5KW battery considering I'm generating 2.207kW at the moment…

Photo? Would be nice to see one.

Are you sure it's a smart meter?

It's just that the rollout hasn't started yet

I'll grab a photo later, but I'm on a day/night rate so I'm pretty sure its a smart meter!

The automatic rollout was to start in 2025, but maybe "new installs" went straight to the new meters? Wouldnt have made sense to give me a new "old" meter than then have to replace it a couple of months later.

DayNight tariff pre dates smart meters. And there has been digital Day Night meters for a long time. If you went straight onto a Day Night tariff (mcc02) you very likely dont have a smart meter.

If you can see your 30 minute use on the ESBN website you have a smart meter, if you cant, you dont.

Apologies, looks like I just have a newer day/night electronic meter than I had seen before.

I was also "told" that it would be a smart meter but seems like that all fell through.

Ah well, I registered for the smart meter upgrade anyway, will let you know if one appears.

There is a generic "register for smart meter" link here
    https://www.esbnetworks.ie/smart-meter-form

    Unfortunately their FAQ states

The deployment will initially focus on those 3 Phase customers who are on a standard 24-hour electricity tariff.

so I'm not holding out much hope!
