You don't get the grant for a Tesla unit these days but you may have received grant for old unit anyway. New rules mean an isolator switch needs to be fitted nearby. There may be other rules the Tesia unit does not meet as Irish rules are special, the only country in the world requiring an isolator often bigger than the charger.

Hi, we're getting a new Kia and they offer a free home charger with it - we have the option of an Ohme Home Pro, a Zappi or an EO Pro 3 (https://smarthomestore.energia.ie/smart-electric-vehicles)

Any thoughts on which would be best?. We have PV panels installed, no battery currently if that makes any difference

Zappi probably the long term gold standard for your needs PV. Just works.

I would counter the "just works" comment.

The only real positives with Zappi is the integration with same brand accessories and the notably good customer service. They have a lot of product issues though with regard to the EV chargers dying just outside of warranty period. The saving grace being that MyEnergy will give you a good deal on a new one.

Personally I would be going for OHME pro out of those options. It's neat, I haven't heard much problems with them and they don't look like a toilet. Plus, it's the tethered model, where the EO are untethered.

The only people I know of them dying out of warranty is 1 poster on here. Anyone i know in real life with zappi just works . There's a reason they led the market for so long and support of their units is part of it.

I just want to add. The toilet stuff is nonsense it holds the cable extremely neatly and it's so easy to place it on and off. Design smarts by whomever put that together.

I've seen multiple examples on various EV forums, including a few here. Not all were full failures, but plenty of issues. Almost as many as the old Rolec chargers. The Zappi attraction was the eco system and the idea of charging an EV from solar. Since export tariffs came in, they are not so popular.

One thread here with someone on their third Zappi.

I'm not telling the poster not to buy one, i'm giving my opinion and I think it's fair to say that the Zappi reliability isn't what it was when they first came to market.

And they do look like a toilet. Well, a toilet seat, or a urinal.

Podpoint also look a bit like a potty. I think some of the design teams are just havin' a laugh.

Where do you leave your cable trailing on the ground... ??

I toilet trained my first born on something that looked exactly like the Zappi. 🤣

I’ve had 2 zappis crapping themselves out of warranty. They have great customer service but an inferior product to Wallbox or OHME.

I’m on my third one now. It’s working but every now and again I get the failure warning and I have to reset using the hamburger settings.

Only reason I keep it is because of the myenergy ecosystem. I have a brand new in the box Wallbox that came with one of the cars last year and is fit that of the zappi dies again.

OHME has as good if not better customer support based in Cork but I only know 2 people with one, both on my road and they’ve had no problems with them.

Wallbox comes with a cable hook thing. Pretty basic stuff. We don’t need to engineer a cable holder here.

I use the Hypervolt. Cable wraps around it neatly.

    image.png

Comes with a holster too which I use.

Models that don't have this type of cable tidy function built in can use other cable wrap solutions, but I prefer wrapping around the charger, just like the Zappi does.

Wrap around are best everything else looks like a mess.

Seems with the volume of zappis sold they still are the standard. Hence my original post.

My load balancing failed last night on my Zappi. Ended up pulling 65 amps for 2 hours on a 63 amp MCB.

Luckily I have a redundancy in the inverter which limited the import to 15kw by reducing the charge to the batteries. I reset the Zappi and will check it tomorrow.

    Ever happen to anyone else?

Haven't heard of that before, I'd check the physical settings on the Zappi and your CT clamp, sometimes with ME updates lots of settings go back to default

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 595 ✭✭✭JohnySwan

Those were the first things I checked, suspected the same as you.

As I posted here a few days ago, there seems to be issues with Zappi EC chargers in recent years. Not the product they were in the first couple of years IMO. Some mad stuff happens with them.

If you haven't already, do a hard reset and kill power to it for a couple of hours. If that doesn't sort it, then it's onto customer care.

It didn’t even charge last night. This is what the app thinks is happening at the moment. Nothing is being imported from the grid, and the eddi isn't drawing any power.

Screen on the Zappi frozen, it obviously didn't like my reference to a potty😃

ME have excellent phone support, get onto their UK number and they will sort you out

Looks to be frozen at 1am. Any firmware updates pending ? How's your typical connection to the WiFi?

Funny, mine didn't charge last night either. Thought I just hadn't plugged it in right or something.

My app is currently ok, perhaps they were doing some upgrades on the site/system last night?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 595 ✭✭✭JohnySwan

Did a factory reset and charged fine last night, all looks good again today. Inverter RCBO tripped last night, another one to keep an eye on.

Something funky going on with your setup. May consider checking the board out is everyhing tight etc. Or have a professional check it over. Stuff can become loose over time. But you don't want arking occurring in loose terminals.

I happened to find a shodily crimped live ferrule in mine with evidence of heat/burning. Very poorly installed. Cables easily pulled from their terminals.... All sorted and resolved easily, but begs the question of calibre of this professional electrician. However like any industry theres superb people and flutes.

Hi all. Has anyone encountered an issue with their Zappi where the Grid and House icons in the app show as grayed out? The Grid shows "not in use" in the App while the Home shows "idle". Both definitely being incorrect as the I can the see the grid and house usage in the FusionSolar app. The usage in the top right hand corner of the Zappi screen itself also shows 0.0.

This all started after a reboot of the Zappi. The scheduled charge last night didn't work for some reason but it had been a good while since its last reboot so I thought it might be worth doing so. Before that everything was ok with the app and screen readouts. A second reboot has not fixed the issue.

I did a search online that mentioned setting the Zappi as the Master as a potential solution but checking its settings it appears the Zappi is correctly set as the master.

Any suggestions will be greatly appricated

Any yellow triangles that indicate something is offline?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,353 ✭✭✭✭listermint

This is probably related to the CT clamp faulty or installed oddly or loose connection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 UnfortuateSon

No. No yellow triangles or any other icons on the app unfortunately. The car is showing as waiting for a charge tonight and thats all

It only happened after a reboot, so not likely to be loose connection, or CT.

@UnfortuateSon Make sure no timers are set on the car. Try a full reset to factory. Power down the Zappi for a good hour. If you haven't touched the CT Clamp, or other connections, it is almost certainly another Zappi malfunction. Could have got caught in the middle of one of their random updates.

This is how mine looks if the ct clamp isn't attached or is attached to the evs supply live.

Cables do move or become loose. Did you try charging it? If the ct is loose it will / should stop the charge after a minute. If the settings grid section is set correctly to CT grid.

Looks like CT clamp not reporting import nor export.
