According to my Nintendo in review, I played 101 hours in march and 76 in december, my most played game is Picross s+ with 154 hours, followed by Pokémon Scarlet with 62 hours and Final Fantasy XII with 28.

Nintendo Switch 2 render based on leaks.

Is this going to be like Zelda when they said they would talk about it in the new year and as soon as January 1st came, everyone kept looking for more info?

Think January 8th is the latest rumoured announce date.

The amount of man hours that have gone into leaking, reporting on and speculating about the Switch 2 design, and odds are it just looks like a Switch 1 with a 2 beside the logo and some more rounded edges.

I don't care if its exactly the same design with a higher spec. Just wish theyd get a move on to feck.

30 years on, developers reflect on Super Metroid's impact: "Like Zelda and Mario, there is almost nothing else out there like it in tone. Still to this day, even"

I loved this game back when it first released, and I still love it. It's one of the greatest games ever made, arguably THE greatest.

It is one of the best games ever made, bar none.

I had the big box version back when it was released, played it through on the Snes along with everyone else, just superb stuff

Funny that, I've never progressed far in Super Metroid ... must go back one day. I'm currently playing Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown which is a very good metroidvania game.

Having recently found myself mired in Profound Philosophical Disagreements with modern games selling themselves as metroidvanias (but actually trying to be more 2D-Soulslikes), I think I'm overdue a re-visit to Super Metroid. It is such an excellent game, and is closely tied with Metroid: Fusion for my all-time favourite in the series.

Rumour: Nintendo Switch 2 motherboard photos leaked

I would say there's a very good chance these images are real. Remember this image from a few months ago?

It's the reverse side of this PCB.

So it would all have to be some elaborate hoax. I don't think so.

It's hard to get excited about the hardware unless they've something special we don't know about. The proof of the pudding will be the launch games. And the retail price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,342 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

So, Genki (Human Things, Inc) are hosting a booth media briefing next Tuesday(7th January) at CES, where they've said they will be "Happy to discuss any Switch 2 info we may have as well as the stuff we're making for it."

I don't think they would risk attracting the ire of Nintendo by revealing much about Switch 2, unless, maybe Nintendo will have revealed the Switch 2 themselves the day before on Monday? I know the rumour is that Switch 2 news will be revealed on 8th January, but Nintendo often likes to prove rumours inaccurate.

Nintendo filed a patent for DLSS style upscaling technology back in July 2023 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, that was only made public on 31st December 2024.

    https://ppubs.uspto.gov/dirsearch-public/print/downloadBasicPdf/12182966?requestToken=eyJzdWIiOiIwNGIxYTliMS1lNTFjLTQ3OTktOWU0OS05OTE4ODk1MzQ3ZWQiLCJ2ZXIiOiI2MDkzNTYxMy1jNDg1LTRiMTUtYWZmMi02NzZhMDliNmZiZWMiLCJleHAiOjB9

It's heavily rumoured that Nintendo will use DLSS for Switch 2. The image they use in the patent is from a short film called Big Buck Bunny released in April 2008.

"On May 2, 2012 the film was released on Nintendo Video in Europe as part of a special partnership with Nintendo and the Blender Foundation. It was split into three instalments, with one releasing each week. The film was recreated in stereoscopic 3D by Studio Lumikuu."

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Buck_Bunny

It runs at 60fps and in 4K. Will Nintendo be able to do this for their games on Switch 2 using this DLSS technology? We'll find out soon enough, hopefully.

Looking at photos of a motherboard, it might as well be a map of Mesopotamia, I've not a clue what it signifies bar that websites are desperate to drum up any kind of traffic with a headline in the hope of some clicks.

The sooner there's an announcement and this can all end the better.

Then folk can start complaining about the hardware instead.

    Should I say anything?

    And spoil the ending? 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,242 ✭✭✭jj880

    🤣 ffs

That went from bad to hilariously bad.

Surely we'll see something official this month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,906 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

The announcement won't help. Will just be a million videos about things we missed, etc.

Since Nintendo rarely talk about power or terraflops, there'll stil be the need to wait for release before it can be taken apart and analysed. Though at that point, those interested won't care as much since they'll already own it.

I'm sure the click baiters have their "Switch 2 Pro" articles ready to go already to the day after launch of the Switch 2. No doubt we'll see every Z-tier outlet reposted for that in due course.

Surely you can tell how underpowered it is from the lack of doohickeys on the deelies. I'm outraged that it's clearly not as powerful as something else. (Starting early)

Generally speaking, is there anywhere to get joycons cheap(er) than the €70 you see in Smyths? Don't fancy 2nd hand given all the reliability issues.

I actually bought some joycons ages ago. The special edition Zelda Skyward Sword joycons. Put them in a box, moved the room around, boxes were moved and I lost them. I only found them over Xmas and now I'm wondering are they worth anything. If not, I'll just open them and use them.

It's the reliance on thing a ma bobs that worries me, especially as it pales before the doodads that the PS5 has.

Also, this isn't going to help me grow back my hair or make me more popular, so Nintendo hates me, but I'll buy it anyway, just to spite them.

I wonder if we'll have another series of interminable clip shows featuring Smash Bros, they really did my head in

If the announcement is next week, wouldn't journalists and all have received their invitations with the creepy Mario behind the curtain? Or was that something else?

One of the Switch 2’s first third party ports may have been revealed

Gotham Knights suffered performance issues on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles at launch, leading many to believe that a Nintendo Switch port would be unlikely. The Nintendo Switch version of the game may have been ported to Nintendo‘s unannounced console, with the Nintendo Switch 1 version quietly canceled.

Looking for some advice here folks, about gaming generally but with an emphasis on the switch.

Myself and my partner are saving for a mortgage this year which means more nights in, less holidays etc. and she has mentioned getting into gaming could be something to keep us occupied on the weekends/evenings. Her birthday is coming up in two weeks, she has mentioned to be over the past number of weeks that she thinks we should get a Nintendo Switch OLED as it seems the best multiplayer console and obviously has the portable option and also possible to play via the TV.

Firstly, do you think a Switch would be the correct console of choice? Most of my friends who game play the PS5 and I've probably never even heard of someone my age playing the switch (~30), but then again I am not a gamer so not something I'd be talking about really.

Secondly, I see here and online there is a new version of the Switch coming out at some point in 2025. Would it be stupid to invest in one now or could it still be worthwhile with a view of getting us more into gaming in general?

Finally, any tips around getting usage out of it/games to recommend? I just have the fear of spending €400 and it goes unused or gathers dust after the first few weeks. Cheers in advance for any help!

I would most definitely wait until a few days before her birthday no matter what you do. Everyone is expecting official news on Switch 2 this month hopefully including a release date. If that happens you will have a better idea if you want to wait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,263 ✭✭✭✭Tom Mann Centuria

Maybe pick up a 2nd hand bog standard Switch and give that a go, a try before you buy type thing. If you're going to be playing multiplayer on telly anyway the need for OLED might be less of a requirement.

Any Switch game you buy would be playable on any new Switch coming out.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Another supposedly new leaked photo of the Switch 2 dock.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Ggr0-EtW0AA2RPE?format=jpg&name=small

Which means the current gen Switch mains charger cable won't be compatible for powering the Switch 2 whilst docked, as it will use a 60w charger.
