Blizzard conditions SW Laois, but I can still hear the gutters gurgling away with the snow melting off the roof.

They call it winter in other countries but in West Clare at 130m above sea level, we have a rare January winter wonderland. The heaviest snow now falling with about 5-6 inches of lying snow. The main road from Ennis to Miltown Malbay is current closed.

Raining in Cork for 30 hours non stop, so grim.

You need to drive out the N20 for 20 mins. The snow covering here will be impressive if it continues for another few hours as forecasted.

Snow belting down in Kilkenny city now. Took my young fella out in it for a bit. It's his first time seeing snow.

Yeah, Irish weather at its worst. Had to go out in it for hours yesterday and unfortunately, again later today.

Turns out I was right to let the kids out last night after midnight.

Turned to rain here this morning South Kildare so pretty much all gone.

Looks like rarely happening event that heavy snow omitted North/Northwest of the country… so far.

Less than 2cm of snow here on Mayo/Roscommon border, 140m AMSL.

    Cat enjoys it anyway:

2018? 20cm of level snow during that one. Brief but memorable.

The latest run of the ICON suggests plenty of more snow to come for those already hardest hit with lower ground locations of Munster and Leinster, away from the SE and E coasts perhaps seeing their first lying snow of 2025. The system will push into the Irish Sea by midnight.

Down in East Cork. Probably snow 10 mins out the road in Dungourney! Usually does well in marginal conditions. Getting a bit more confident of seeing a dusting down here later on.

Yeah, a bitter wind out there with cold rain. The wife and kid went out there to the shops and packed the little one into the car and I got an awful chill. Hopefully we see something before 5pm.

in terms of “seeing first lying snow of 2025”, it is only 5 January tbf! But I know what you meant….

That’s earlier than expected by the models so that’s a great sign! Although MT did say to the south coast by 1pm.

Nearer to the south coast temp at 2.3C, highest it’s been for a while, hopefully starts dropping back soon.

Heavy snow started again in Carlow Town.

I was only hoping for a dusting here near Mallow. Has really come down the last hour or two. Tomorrow I think can offically be declared a snow day already. Some of the cars are already sliding a little it seems never mind after the freeze tonight.

Almost blizzard like here in east Limerick City, haven't seen snow this heavy in a long long time.

I can only presume North Waterford is Kilkenny?

Heavy snow here near Tralee putting the gutters under a lot of pressure, took one side of the garage off, was out for 30 mins scraping the snow off the lower roof taking the pressure off the house gutters, a couple of brackets broken but all repairable.

Absolutely chucking down snow at 90m ASL on the Kilkenny-Laois border. Visibility is low owing to the intensity.

Snowing with varying intensities in Limerick City. Very choppy out with the wind chill factor
