Is there still a massive difference in net pay in Spain v England because of differences in tax?

Its a bit of sickener that he is going for free and he will be missed in away but I'm too long in the tooth for being upset about this stuff anymore. Klopp leaving and the club not being proactive with contracts really left us holding the bag of **** so to speak.

Once Trent puts in decent performances and helps win the PL and CL then all will be "forgiven"

We're essentially signing him as a free agent. 350 for 5 years is 91m Inc signing on fee. Good price if you ask me. He'd easily get 50M signing on fee at Madrid, so his wage really is 157K a week.

I still think TAA might stay.

Id be surprised if the issue is cash in Trent's case.

I just think it's Madrid, a free pass from defending, more fodder in La Liga to boost his stats and a better chance of regular European glory.

I think talking about his salary in the context of a fullback is really not telling the whole story.

He's a playmaker, has one of the rarest talents in football.

We got a fee for Owen.

By all accounts, Trent is asking for Salah/KDB money, which is mental. I've absolutely no doubt this is 100% about money if he leaves.

Owen left when we didn't look great (though we did win the CL that season, crazily). Trent is leaving literally one of the top 3 current teams in the world.

Trent is destined to be the next captain after Virgil if he stays.

Owen's reasons were transparent - Liverpool didn't seem competitive. Trent is hinting at his love for Liverpool and ambition to be captain, but really, if he leaves, it'll have been about that Galactico money, no?

This is it, his creativity is world class and will create a bunch of goals, but as a full back his primary function is to defend and he's bang average at that at best. Which, even at the lower end of the money being talked about, makes him a perfect fit as a Galactico, but a luxury for us with a more constrained budget. Shame we messed up the contract but it is what it is now, if he wants to go so be it and we learn to keep our business tighter next time we're in transition

Tyrick Mitchell on a free would be shrewd business

3 x 40 games seasons , heading for another this season

Hasn't signed a contract at Palace, free in summer, on low wages

This is wishy washy pish. You're looking for any semblance of a stick to beat him with.

TAA can have an affinity to his childhood club, AND move on, without it being hypocritical or disrespectful to Liverpool. He's honoring his contact and keeping negotiations inhouse. He's being respectful of the club in everything he does (so far.)

Your comment reeks of entitled fandom.

58 more league goals from Salah to be top scorer in the League for Liverpool ,

Rush on 229, Salah on 171

Only reason Rush is overall top score is his 100 plus Pepsi Cola and FA cup goals, a competition Salah rarely plays.

Rush League and Europe is on 259

Salah League and Europe is on 221 , something to aim for

If these figures are correct, not sure. but close

Good player alright, would be happy enough with that, especially if it meant money could go elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,736 ✭✭✭mormank

Personally I expected another ultimately unsuccessful title race similar to last year and to lose it to city. For city to be out of the picture in december and for us to be 6 points clear of our closest rival with a game in hand is dreamland stuff I think for anyone.

So start buying up your toilet roll now cos if liverpool do win the title the world will end again no doubt just like in 2020.

Im not sure we have enough to go on to blame the club.

If Trent wants to go then he wants to go. I'm not sure what more they could have done other than "sort it" earlier which is vague.

I'll never forget the time they ruled Mane offside for a goal he scored with a crooked line. Think it was against Everton.

The sport is ruined by corruption, I say it all the time. I literally just watch our games now.

Bamfords goal for Leeds comfortably wins the worst Var decision ever made. Can't find the video but he got the goal cancelled because he was pointing where he wanted the ball and they ruled that offside.

FSG should have offered Trent a renewal and if he rejected it in the summer sold him. Specially as a new manager coming in keep things as tidy as possible. No one can really have a beef with Trent he’s honoured his contract and it’s too good an offer for him not to take.

If we were to go for another attacker in the summer I'd be looking at Nkunku from Chelsea. He's out of favour there with only 2 PL starts this season and I think he really suits the more Firmino-esque striker role, which suits our needs as we continue to play our wingers as "wide forwards."

We've no idea what talks took place, but you can't just sell someone without their consent. Or do you suggest they should have threatened him with being dumped to the reserves for the year or something? With a year left, Trent was always gonna hang on and see out his deal. Both parties signed that deal, and both parties have honored it. I don't like that he might leave on a free, but ultimately everything has been respectful and above board, so we just kinda have to deal with it.

well at least if the story is true and if he plays as bad as he did against Fulham he can be benched for Bradley which has not happened up to now

I'll never understand the mentality of wanting to sell an elite player rather than have for an extra 12 months

Players that are that good you want at the club as long as possible and that goes for the 3 we might lose on a free

Nat Phillips is the player we should have been trying to sell. He got a nice contract bump a few years ago but we have no interest in playing him so have to just pay him and loan him until May. Him going on a free is more annoying because we haven't gotten any value out of him being with the club since he signed the extension

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭riddles

Not a great business model allowing elite players hitting their prime for free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,601 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Not to be biased or anything but this comfortably wins the worst VAR related incedent ever:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,021 ✭✭✭✭8-10

If they see out their contract not much you can do. You agree 4 years or whatever, there's no obligation to sign another. Sometimes you can have an option for an extra year or 2 but that needs to be agreed with the player.

My point is when the player isn't interested in signing a new contract, and they're an elite player in their prime contracted to play for you, and theyre performing and not a disruption, why get rid?

You got them to sign for 4 years so why let another club have them after 3?

The only reason is a transfer fee, and only having 12 months left is usually a heavy discount so it's rarely worth it.

I'd much have Trent in our squad this season while we're chasing trophies than £40m in the bank with Bradley and a new signing as options

For sure, I'd much rather a UCL or Prem title this season than a big fee for Trent and firmly believe he will be vital to chances of both.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,024 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Carragher and Redknapp had a discussion about this last week and Carragher had it right. If TAA decides to leave on a free transfer while the club is in such a strong position this season and for the years ahead. He will never be considered a club legend by the fans. He'll just be another Steve McManaman in the fans eyes. Maybe worse as the club is much stronger now than when McManaman left. Redknapp couldn't get his head around this but Carragher was right. Might not be fair or even rational but it's the reality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,480 ✭✭✭✭noodler

I do think it's a reality that will matter a lot more to Carra than Trent though.

Trent leaves with a UCL, Prem, loads of trophies, regularly getting the club back in the top 4 (disregarding whatight happen this season). McManaman got a league cup

Michael Owen was anything but transparent.

In 2002/3 his agent went on 'sabbatical' and made himself unavailable to negotiate a contract extension with the club. Houllier never forced the issue with Owen, nor was it questioned how the agent was able to sort out endorsement contracts during the same time period.

When Rafa Benitez replaced Gerard Houllier as manager in June 2004 he was privy to the fact that during the previous season the agent had been offering Owen's services to clubs in Spain including Valencia. Benitez pulled the rug out from beneath Owen and the agent in their first meeting, that is the only reason that Liverpool got a transfer fee for him. Through his connections at Real Madrid, he knew that there was an agreement in principle for Owen to sign for Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2005. He made it clear to them that it wasn't going to happen and Owen was going to be sold before the close of the 2004 transfer window. That sent the agent scrambling and in the process put a spanner in the works for Real Madrid's transfer plans.

The sale of Owen to Real Madrid also provided a path for the signing of Xabi Alonso from Real Sociedad a week later. The fee paid for Owen meant that Madrid didn't have the funds to complete the signings of both Alonso and Vieira and prioritised getting Vieira from Arsenal. Liverpool simply matched the Madrid offer for Alonso and completed the deal within 24 hours. A few days later the Vieira transfer collapsed. The Alonso transfer coup led to the subsequent shenanigans with the Morientes transfer.

Chiesa out in Jan rumors , pretty crazy he has a longer contract than the three amigos , and is on 150k a week until 2028

We do make some silly mistakes in transfers, 25m in Jan and I'd sell.
