I actually think slot dosent rate nunez but just plays him to keep his value up and to rest jota and Diaz, I was looking back at old clips of us around 20 years ago and my god fowler, Owen and torres and suarez were in a totally different league to Darwin, yes he works hard which is commendable but strikers have to score and it's not like we don't create plenty of chances, hoping for a big upgrade in the summer. Great if Bradley and konate were back for United game, might times to be a Liverpool supporter, I love slot

I think Darwin will do wonders elsewhere if he leaves. In parts It's frustrating for everyone involved but he is doing what the manager asks of him which is a good mentality to have.

If he is to be replaced, I hope it's not another player that appears to be going through a purple patch in a very specific system.

I think it will be a player who's numbers might not be out of this world but they will suit Slot's tactics more now and in the future.

I wonder will city go all in during the transfer window to try and salvage their season.

Difficult to say, who is going to risk joining them with the treat of what is going to happen with the outcome of the 115 (130) charges

Pep has said yes they will, with the caveat that it's not to salvage this season, but more that they will look to get in players in January that are for the long term not the short term

    Zubimendi is odds-on I'd say

The charges could be outlined in the contract negotiations that in worst case scenario players could leave but I wouldn't think that it be a big concern for players as it's more than likely city will get away with any massive sanctions.

    Yea,, looks legit

It's funny that on many other VAR calls they just put the line on the knee, not away from the knee and then draw a vertical line to the knee.

But with Liverpool they go to extremes as to try to make it off. Firmino below was given as offside, yet my eyes tell me different. These vertical lines to me are way off the mark, they make something that seems fact, false. In reality Firmino's armpit is not ahead of that knee, but if you draw it up with these lines they tell us that he is ahead, but fact is he's not.

Of course it seems all these 5 minute VAR calls are ALWAYS about Liverpool and how to chalk off a goal

You think Liverpool are the only team involved in long winded VAR checks??? Do you actually look at any football outside of Liverpool games??

You’re clearly not genuine if you can’t give him praise even when he does well. Calling that a heavy touch is pure ignorance! Long may Slot continue to confuse you. I have explained to you why Slot has played him so often when we have such an array of talent in our forward line. I won’t be doing it again, you can remain dumbfounded when Slot uses him.

it’s not the man it’s the ball that counts he’s ahead of the ball

You are conflating a great many things in that post and making a number of strawman arguments.

We have only had 4 options available for much of the season for 3 slots with 30 odd games played. Portraying Nunez getting game time as some sort of Slot master plan is bizarre when it is equally, if not more tbf, about managing minutes.

You are starting to sound a bit entrenched. You don't have to offset every mean spirited Nunez comment by scraping the bottom of the barrel to find basic positives in his performances.

    We have 5 good forwards.

    Nunez is one of them.

No 2 of them are the same, they have something different to offer.

Get on board or STFU, this is why we have for now. HON the reds!

The guy has 2 goals and 2 assists , in a team that has scored 40 goals in the league alone - any forward in the league would do way better - he is terrible and not up the the standard . The fact he can not do it , in that team says most.

Slot will be rid of him as soon as he can. We don't know Slot that well yet - but maybe one thing that we have not seen from Slot is a blooding of players - Klopp was unreal at that - trust a good young player. I'm amazed there is not a player in the youth set up he has put in , instead of Nunez. Nunez shouldn't be near matchday squad. Worst player we have seen in up front in a long long time.

Danns is the only player that could step up at the moment but he is not long back from a long injury lay off

Anyone read the Transformer by TAW''s Neil Atkinson?

I'm only in the early chapters but it's some nostalgia ride.

If Trent leaves in this fashion, he's worse than Michael Owen ever was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,565 ✭✭✭SM01

That's quite the dramatic statement. Why do you say that? Michael Owen didn't cover himself with glory in relation to Liverpool after leaving. Trent has not uttered a peep about contract talks, and whilst he's a little hit and miss on the pitch, his form isn't dramatically different from his usual.

I mean, I'll be disappointed is he's leaves, but he's done nothing Judas-like.

There was an article in Spanish press over night. I assume that's why Slick is commenting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,565 ✭✭✭SM01

Yep, saw that. We all have a sense there's a distinct possibility he'll leave, but what has he actually said or done that's so bad it's Michael Owen-esque?

In fairness, that’s the Madrid way….get Marca or whatever other sports tabloid to print stories about new players! I wouldn’t put too much faith in it.

I’d be pissed if he leaves on a free, but hey, that’s just business at the end of the day. Everyone looks out for themselves ( except most of us don’t have agents to do it for us)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,605 ✭✭✭McFly85

I’d have absolutely no ill-will towards Trent. Hes helped us win everything and it was a combination of the clubs poor management and the unfortunate timing of the announcement of Klopps departure that led to the contract situation.

If he fancies a new challenge in a different country then best of luck to him. I would only be annoyed if he decided to go to a different PL team but I don’t think he would be the type to do that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,027 ✭✭✭✭8-10

I still hold out hope that Trent stays. Let Madrid get Frimpong or Dalot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,484 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Im a bit resigned to it now as well.

Owen the only player they've taken from us who didn't turn out to be a success?

I could see him being scapegoated a little in the Spanish media

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,471 ✭✭✭antimatterx

He's not. His contract is up. If he wants to explore new opportunities we should respect that and wish him well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,198 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

This, once he finishes out his contract at 100%, then he's OK by me. I'll still be a bit angry and sad a deal wasn't done, but ce la vie.... It's happened before woth the likes of Bobby and Gini in recent years, Milner as well. Slightly different I know with a lad who came through the ranks, but business is business at the end of the day.

Hopefully his last act is to bring Old Big Ears home with another EPL medal in his pocket too.

I’ll be shocked if Salah and VVD aren’t with Liverpool next season and equally shocked if TAA is.

Mo just looks like he is loving life with Liverpool at the moment. He’s a multi millionaire and will get a decent contract offer from the club. He’s still got some records in his sights. He’ll be playing for us next year no doubt about it.

I know it’s Christmas but it’s a bit early to be hitting the sherry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,027 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Dudek too maybe, not sure he played much for them but was a useful player likely

The opposite way is grim, they gave us Bruna, Morientes, Antonio Núñez and Nuri Şahin on loan

paying 250 a week for a full back at Liverpool is at best a stretch - he has been up and down in form the last few years. If he wants to 350-400 that’s not possible and there is a massive signing on fee as well. Not many would not take that. It’s just a business reality. He has won almost everything to be won at Liverpool. His buddy Bellingham is on 400 a week.

Madrid with huge revenue can pay that but Liverpool don’t have as much wiggle room.
