Well ok, I'll take back the 'stupid' remark. I was a bit casual with that. But people have been told over and over of the dangers and still they get addicted. But what I do find stupid is how some people who are addicted and in a bad way still defend their choices. I know one mentally ill person who is an addict. He is going downhill very quickly but still defends his way of life.

For reasons I won't go into, I am in contact with a good number of such people. Maybe 'stupified from drugs' is a better way to put it.

It looks like history is starting up again.

ah so the classic I didn’t like it so it’s really bad

Man you just don’t seem to grasp it affects everyone totally different. Same as alcohol.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,864 ✭✭✭zv2

Of course I know it has different effects on different people. But the effects are not good, to varying degrees. Even marijuana is a psychoactive drug. Taking these substances brings people into areas of the mind and consciousness that are not understood.

It looks like history is starting up again.

it’s not worse than cocaine, at all. Not even close.

If you think that people who injest (not everyone smokes it) would be different, you equally don’t know any different. Your opinion or perspective pales into the void when it comes to the fact that that no one has died from an OD from it, ever.

Like I said, the worst affects are eating everything in sight and laughing your ass off. If that’s as bad as it gets? Sign me up.

Again, you are aware that someone who is addicted, is sick, right?

And with your mentally ill friend, they are mentally ill, and drugs play a part of that. Not the other way around, you understand that, right?

BG was so much in cocaine and heroin one should not use him as an example. Of course he had to blame something culturally bit more tolerable so he chose alcohol and weed. He would not implicate himself in his own autobiography plus if he would openly talk about hard drug use he would actually point out how he destroyed his own family in the process.

How do you know it is not worse? I keep saying that I am talking about the psychic effects, not whether someone dies or not. Drugs cut off vital parts of the mind. If you want to do an experiment (that is if you smoke a lot) stop all drugs for 6 to 8 weeks and you will be in a position to assess the psychological effects. If you can't give them up for 6 to 8 weeks you really need to give them up for 6 to 8 weeks.

These things cannot be known without extensive research and control groups. Not an easy task. Be your own control group.

It looks like history is starting up again.

How do I know it’s not worse? How many people have died from a marijuana overdose? Zero. How many have died from cocaine? Well…you get the idea.

Then there is the way it is produced. Cociane is laced with all kinds of additives and chemicals, you can find marijuana plants growing naturally in the wild.

I regularly consume weed gummies, and I equally can go through phases of just not as well. My mind is fine, intact, I’m healthy, just got a new job, eat well etc. I’m not a zombie, you are using polarising narratives here to paint this picture that weed is some sort of companion to cocaine, it just isn’t.

There is an irony to your last paragraph, you’re posting emotionally, very little to back up anything you are saying. Like I’ve said, weed is nowhere near as destructive as cocaine, it never will be.

You are not listening to a word I say. I have said repeatedly that it is not about people dying. It is about effects that are more subtle than that. As for backing up what I'm saying - I have know many dope smokers. The negative effects are visible "Heyyy man. Heyyy".

I remember the first time I smoked the stuff. Well, it wore off after a few hours, as it does. But for 3 days after I was in a kind of semi trance. I had no idea this was happening. I was going about my business 'normally'. Then - and I remember the exact street I was on at the time - I suddenly regained my clarity of mind. I just woke up and realized I had been in a semi trance state for 3 days. This effect is subtle but real. You cannot know these things unless you do a thorough detox on yourself. Only then can you compare.

It looks like history is starting up again.

I’m seeing exactly what you say, your observations don’t matter really when it’s not backed up with data or evidence. “Hey maaan” still using this? Using a stereotype to make your point doesn’t give much ground to what you’re saying. As for subtle effects…exactly that, subtle, almost non-existent you might say. You can say you’ve known as many “dope” smokers (is this how you characterise them overall?), I’m sure they are doing just fine.

If you were in a semi-trace, as you claim, I would put money on it not being weed pal, you are taking complete rubbish now.

I didn’t consume weed forever, so I’m well aware of what it’s like not being high (like right now) and being high watching a movie, being in a forest, playing the PlayStation. And I can assure you, I’m not in a trace for 3 days either.

@Frank Bullitt "I’m seeing exactly what you say, your observations don’t matter really when it’s not backed up with data or evidence."

Well, I'm not one of those people who waits for a scientist with 'evidence' to give me permission to think for myself and see what I'm looking at.

Don't bet on what I smoked. It was marijuana, not 'grass'.

It looks like history is starting up again.

I remember listening to a radio segment on legalising cannabis and some pro guy came on and was going on to the politician saying well sure alcohol is worse for you and the politician said yep I agree but we can’t ban that at this stage we are way too far gone , doesn’t mean we should legalize weed because alcohol is legal. Made sense to me. It seems to be a popular argument for people who want it legalised but it’s a childish one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,759 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

And you’re free to do what you wish. If that means ignoring science and facts because you “see” something, I believe that’s called blind faith.

Pretty sure your experience as well…doesn’t exactly add up. Even a very large dosage of weed would pass quickly and wouldn’t last for very long. So you either didn’t smoke weed and it was something far stronger, you have really low/no tolerance, or you are telling a fib. I’m leaning more towards the last one.

it’s not really a childish argument though it’s more of a counter response to the “drugs are bad mmmkay” brigade who’ll happily tan pints every weekend but think a joint or two is going to end all life as we know it.

Pointing a mirror to blatant hypocrisy I would liken it to rather than a childish attempt to argue a point.

What I tend to find more childish are the anti drug crowd sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting LALALALALALALA whenever you try to have a reasoned discussion on the matter.

    Precisely this.

Along with the “I heard a story about a man who smoked weed and jumped off a cliff”, sure they did…

To be fair I think people that have never taken drugs and get into their jammies of a Saturday and get a Chinese and watch x factor far more psychotic

  • Site Banned Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭Raichų

No point arguing with zv2; they smoked cannabis once and now they’re an expert.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭ledwithhedwith

it is a childish argument , oh you guys have beer why can’t we have our weed lol

As usual the anti drug crowd are the ones with the childish arguments. The ironing is delicious.

I never ignore science. I have been studying it since I was a young teenager. But I don't like bad science. Or popular 'science' that breaks the rules (eg Correlation is not causation is routinely broken, often by people who should know better. You cannot observe that when A happens B also happens and then assume A causes B. Real life situations are far more complex than that.) And good science has plenty of evidence that weed is bad in many ways.

As for calling me a liar. I have better things to do than coming on here making things up.

It looks like history is starting up again.

I didn't say once, I said the first time. Nor did I say I'm an expert but I've been around this stuff long enough to make an informed opinion. Give it up for 6 weeks and assess your state of mind. There is no other way.

It looks like history is starting up again.

Oh isn’t that convenient, you’re a scientist! So you don’t want for science to provide data or evidence, could it be that you are just using your own bias here to make your mind up?

And I’m not calling you a liar, more than I don’t believe your story one bit, it doesn’t make sense at all.

no. I’m as sober as the pope. The “ironing is delicious” is from The Simpsons.

Marijuana - you know the little brown cakes as opposed to grass (which is dried leaves)?

It looks like history is starting up again.

No. I'm not a scientist. I have an interest in science and study it. You keep misquoting me.
