If you don't want a 242 can you say to them it's too short notice as you are out of the country? I know it'll mean the car gets reallocated to the next person on the list but it would bug me no end if I received a 242 this close to the new year.

I will have too as I still need to sale my own car. The date only changed today so I will see what happens.

I would not sell your car until firm delivery date, for both my Tesla pick ups I waited until a week before then priced and presented well and both times held onto my current car until pickup day (just in case). A well priced and presented car will always sell.

Excellent point, I’ll see what happens over the next few days and see if it gives me firm delivery date.

Mine too! I ordered a standard range M3 mid-Nov. Now I’m hoping for a nice shiny Christmas present 😄

    Hi guys,
We recently visited Tesla to inquire about purchasing a Model 3. During our visit, we were informed that selecting a "pre-configured vehicle" would enable us to receive the car before the end of the year. However, they clarified that they would not be able to delay the registration of the car to 2025; the vehicle would instead be registered as a 2024-2 model.

To secure the vehicle, we placed a reservation by paying €250 but have not made the full payment yet.

Could you advise on how realistic it is that we would receive the car before the new year if we proceed with the full payment.

Highly likely. Tesla focuses on as many deliveries before quarter end as possible hence you get a concentration of deliveries in March, June, September and December.

Usually people wait until being offered a firm delivery appointment (not estimated) before making final payment. Whether you make the payment now or not does not impact being offered a delivery appointment. If you have a VIN it is a good indicator that a specific car has been matched to you. Car will be registered when delivery is made and wont be delayed.

Thanks, guys. I can see the VIN number on the Tesla app, so it’s highly likely the car will be delivered before the new year. fingers crossed :::)))

Tesla just confirmed my order won’t be delivered this month which suits me fine. I can stop checking the app now.

    And same again forme!
They’ve made a drama where they needn’t have: February to December to now sometime in 2025…. They can’t not know what’s being shipped here so I wonder if they were expecting refusals?

Tesla often make offers they know they cannot deliver on e.g. pick up before Dec 31st and get free Supercharging. They won't be able to deliver that car but they have an order on the books. They've been at this for years

Just bought, have been on the fence for weeks but pulled the trigger today.

Question, I opted for the hire purchase option. I don't see where to go thru application etc etc... Do they reach out to you or what's the system here?? Thanks

Do they really make people register cars in December or else lose the order?

For what, ego and registration stats?

Finance Ireland will be in touch - application is fairly basic and straightforward. Basic income an expenditure details…

As long as you don’t pay in full, the car won’t be registered. You’d be crazy to register a car this week.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,176 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

If your car was to arrive today, they could ask you to take delivery. If you refuse they will offer it to the next person. But you most certainly do not loose your order. Your name goes against the next batch of cars. Could be week or a month later though!

But in reality, over the holidays, I doubt many cars will be delivered.

Different story if it was the first week of the month. BMW used to do the same when the i4 was in demand. People told to register in December or loose their order! Doubt many brands can do that nowadays.

The car will be registered usually the day before or day of delivery. It really depends whether you bought a car that was avaialble for delivery and if so you will have been offered a delivery slot (or will be offered one very shortly). You will have the option to accept or reject but if you reject you run the risk that the car will be offered to someone else if they can agree a sale …thats just how it works. Its nothing to do with ego but all about sales and Tesla is a public company who reports quarterly and their financial perfrmacne is scrutinsided by the market and its all about "sales vs projections" and their accounting policy is such that Revenues can only be reflected of. a car is oredred, paid for AND delivered. If all of these conditions are not met the car is not included in their sales figures which explains why there is always a push to get all available cars "delivered. Its not clear if your car had a "Showoom Adjustment or free supercharge milage for a year which are incentives offered to purchasers conditional on delivery by 31st December .

Best of luck with it all

    Hi all

Been a while, been loving my MY.

But alas, tonight I got a whack on the windshield by a stone or something and there's a chip on the windshield. Does anyone know the best way to go about sorting this? Do I go to Tesla or my insurance first (have windshield cover on my policy, but insurance companies tend to go for the cheapest option and not the best option if you get me)?

I know this may not be the right forum so apologies in advance and happy to move this to the right place.

    Merry Christmas everyone regardless 😀

    1. Insurance.
    2. They will direct you to their preferred supplier.
    3. arrange with preferred supplier but insist on oem Tesla glass as the spurious versions can give trouble. I’ve heard of spurious ones having to be removed and refitted with OEM ones. Causes more delay and cost to the windscreen company.
