Palestine state is the West Bank and Gaza the larger of the 2 is lead by the Palestine authority, Gaza hasn’t had an election since 2008. The Irish state recognises Palestine as a whole and not just Gaza

The Irish government have condoned the attack , and the the taking of hostages including the several thousand hostages that are held in Isreal for years without trial.

As for unprovoked, it’s been building for 75 years……only the day before the IDF killed an innocent Palestinian teen

You need to learn the difference between anti actions of the Israeli government, which has no bearing on religion. As a left wing government would not commit genocide and being anti Jewish.

Do you seriously believe there's a 'predictable Israeli bashing' going on here? And if so, why?

Countries closing embassies is generally a bad thing. Whatever the problems with a regime (either the embassy or the host) keeping relations open is the best way improve things.

My info (from the security services) suggest that this was jumping before being pushed, i.e. the Irish govt. told them that a push was coming, so always better to exit voluntarily (as it leaves door open to return).

well if I move into my neighbours house I might expect him to get upset….

If the definition of something, as defined by law; appears to be ignored by the courts supposed to enforce said laws, then **** should be questioned.

If an OCG acted like Israel are doing, they would have arrest warrants out for most ministers. …

Oh wait, they very nearly do

45,00” kids isn’t attack their country. How is killing time defending themselves?

what lead to the attack ? What happened to the 1967 border ?

why is Isreal pushing into Syria ? Why are they doubling their colonies in the Golan heights ?

why did the launch an all out attack on all their neighbours?

your info is full is nonsense. The Irish ambassador in Isreal would have been recalled. You don’t expel an ambassador without recalling your own.

It's not being ignored. AFAIK the Irish government have asked the ICJ to broaden their scope and to include starvation and famine to show intent with genocide.

Unless you feel causing a famine or starving a population does not show intent to kill or cause enormous suffering to said group. If Israel just sealed Gaza up and the population starved to death, would you consider that a genocide? Would deliberate starvation show an intent?

The intent will be the hardest part to prove in a case against Israel. But if they are starving the population, destroying hospitals, schools, refugee camps, water treatment plants, green houses, farm land, graveyards etc... that can (as Ireland want the ICJ to examine) prove intent. Why else destroy all the above? And sorry the excuse of a Hamas tunnel underneath, I don't think will be a sufficient defense.

One of the things that held the Irish gov back (apparently) was the fact that we have people in the region, and despite their alignment, if things go horribly south there, Israel (and the Irish Embassy there) will be the safest place for Irish Defence Forces.

Murdering 20,000 children and as many women will always do that. 20K children more than the amount of children killed in wars all over the globe in the last 4 years. Some legacy for your beloved Israel.

Honestly we should be keeping embassies in every country that is worth the money. I don't understand this impetuous throwing the toys out the pram, closing embassies. I'd keep an embassy in North Korea if they'd have one. Nothing wrong with talking to the worst actors, they are the ones where open communication is the most important

We didn't close the embassy. Israel did. Threw all their toys out of the pram.

Imagine standing on the side of war criminals and then aiming your invective at the people criticising those war criminals.

No way we'd be shutting down Israel here and risking total diplomatic breakdown.

Not with our troops in the Lebanon

Good riddance to the murderous regime

When the inevitable refugees from Gaza arrive, and are bused to various places, they'll be met with the same response previous "refugees", "asylum seekers" etc have been met with. Threats, arson attacks, placards etc. Do you really think the locals will part like the red sea and say "howyas lads, come on in"??? Ditto for the Palestinian flag waving estates up north. Slightly more polite response, one assumes, in Dalkey and Malahide when they're bused there.

    Oh, wait....

They'll hardly be bombed and shot though which would be a great relief to them.

I wouldn't count on it. Culture wars are probably not that far away. Especially if a certain faction becomes the majority in the west.

Exactly a few placards and welfare leeches wrapping themselves in the tricolour roaring indescribable shite will be fairly tame for them.

Culture Wars aren't here now, when this war is taking place. 0.2% vote to the far right noodles in the general election. One lad was even campaigning in the wrong electoral area.

They're just a noisy minority at the moment. I can't predict the future and you may be right. But we're a stretch removed from it given the recent election.

We wave a small Jewish community here, been Jewish they are also entailed to Israeli citizen ship. I'm sure there are a few Israelis living here too. So now they have lost access to the support of their embassy. That's all that is going to happen.

Corporate America is ruled by spread sheets, they follow the return on investment. So long as they get a good return on investment here they will stay.

We give Russia a very hard time over Ukraine . We let the US fly through our airspace and refuel at Shannon, delving weapons to Ukraine, yet they haven't left.

Israel don't like that they are before the international criminal court and want everybody to talk about something else so this is the best they can come up with. Abandoning their own people.

Interestingly, the Zionist fanboys on social media are raging about this specific point. Saying Ireland is trying to change the rules about what constitutes a genocide (one assumes this means they admit that Israel has killed tens of thousands of innocent civilians).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,338 ✭✭✭Oíche Na Gaoithe Móire

Personally I don't see any anti semitism towards Jewish people in Ireland. Why would any sane minded person hold any Jewish individual responsible for Netanyahu's government's behaviour.

One thing that makes me proud to be Irish is we generally judge an individual on their merits and character, not their creed or race.

Yes I agree. I am saying that in general no one should ever be closing an embassy. Like unless you are literally at war.

Yes, Trump is a known friend of Netanyahu

A lot of Jews head up a lot of our major FDI corporations, all an elaborate plan to bring business back to America possibly. In return then Trump continues to support Israel against Gaza. Truly a win-win for them

It will be interesting to see if the likes of Intel and Pfizer are still around our shores in a few years time

what should we do to appease Israel?

    • Condone the invasion in Palestine by saying it is a proportionate response?
    • Move the embassy to Jerusalem?
    • Reverse the decision to recognize a Palestine State.
    • Reverse our aid and fund Israel instead.
    • Appoint Alan Shatter as ana special envoy to Israel.

If these measures keep the embassy in Dublin we should do it.

Ok so. Hamas done it. Israel done the same only about 100x more of it. At what stage it will be like enough?

Even natzis used to shoot just 6-10 people for every soldier killed by partisans so IDF is at this stage probably 10x more savage than they were back then.

Plus how much more of Syria they need to annex to feel more "safe"? Let us not even go to the numbers of Syrians (including civilians) killed by recent IDF bombardment of everything even remotelly linked to Syrian army.
