Utd had close to 1200 staff. That's almost double the next biggest EPL staff which was just around 600 or so.

All this chatter about the lay offs and Christmas bonus is just ridiculous. Manchester United is an underperforming business with too many staff. Cuts should continue to happen and when we start winning things then staff can start to get bonuses. Same goes for the ticket prices. People complaining over the price increase will be the same ones complaining that we don't have money to bid £150m for Vini Jr or Mbappe etc.

Edited to add, wait till the new stadium is officially confirmed. The crocodile tears and cries of killing our history etc from journos and other teams fans

I wonder have we found our Shaw replacement? Is this another potential Vivel bargain like Kone

IIRC Arsenal were looking to sign him, only 17 so I dunno if it would be a signing to go straight into the first team if that is any way true. There might be some difficultly obtaining a work permit? I know plenty of clubs buy from South America, usually the players are a bit more established though so getting a work permit is slightly easier.. does anyone really know the process? I wouldn't know too much about the newer rules.

I'm a SJR supporter as the alternatives were more unpalatable to me, however all this stuff is causing reputation damage to Manchester United (you could argue if we have any reputation left at all at this stage).

The Glazers had caused some non-footballing reputational damage but mostly attempted to stear clear of anything too overt for obvious reasons. You could scoff at all this as mas que un club BS, but the big clubs have a mystique around them and United's was one of having some class, looking after people, still being a big club regardless of on-field performance.

Now we don't have on-field performance or any class off it. There's genuine criticism for SJR here.

if we are signing that Leon kid, does it mean Amass is on the way out? He was linked to Villa a few weeks ago. I thought it was odd he didn't seem to be with the first team training when Amorim came in (the first week, when a bunch of other youth were), but then I also thought Martin not being included either was odd and I don't think he is about to leave.

It could be we are simply happy to stock up on high potential players whereever we can get them, and see what happens. But i would wonder how we would communicate and effective and practicle pathway to both players.

Biggest problem with the general sh!tness of United is kids questioning why exactly we follow this team….Dad…..aren't City/Liverpool better??? Dad……..dad?????????? Crying inside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,791 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Surely its the latter, best to have 2 up and coming players in one position, no guarantee Amass will come good.

Well stocking up on young talent worked out well for City so with Berrada coming in, that may be a tactic going forward. City's net spend has been very low because they buy low and sell high. Quite possibly some dodgy dealings involved too of course but I think they're only 6th for net spend over the last 5 years.

I 100% think we should be signing more young talenst and not missing out on guys like caicedo at 5m again, when we were in for him.

Its just this specific case where we are after a left back when we have a slightly younger, and very highly rated left back.

Stock piling could be the answer, I'm just coming from a view of every signing (in general) should be made with a plan - so if we plan on this kid becoming a first team option where does that leave Amass.

Its obviously not a big issue, as you would hope United come out the better of having two promising options rather than one.

I mean the City one is easy enough to refute.

    Who wants to support cheaters?

I followed my dad and uncle blindly into the faith of Sheffield Wednesday. That, and I absolutely loved John Sheridan and Chris Waddle, but I decided to let my own kids follow their own path. So, now I’ve 2 Liverpool obsessed young lads, and one, god love him, Spurs fanatic! Not sure what happened there, I did try to warn him.

My football obsessed 5 year old has asked for an Arsenal jersey off Santa... Although to be fair to him he says that's because Liverpool and Man City are United's rivals but he doesn't see Arsenal the same way! He was also very surprised when I told him United used to be good.

I think, sadly, times are changing too. When I was growing up, I went to Hillsborough a lot, I’d an uncle living over so that helped. But it made sense for me to support Wednesday because I’d be going to a few games a year with my family. Tickets and multiple trips across the water to Anfield, Old Trafford and The Emirates etc is just not as attainable anymore. I took the kids to Anfield last season (to the Spurs game 🙈). But only through a contact at work was it possible to get the tickets, and it was pretty much an end of season dead rubber, but still the whole trip was a lot of money. It’s the type of thing I’d so one or maybe twice in a lifetime for them, never mind a few times a year!

Spurs, the poor lad, talk about a lifetime of misery. My 7 year old boy is mad into United and between him and his pals it's about 50/50 between Utd and LFC. My 6 year old girl recently decided she supports arsenal but I think that's mainly down to her having a little bit of a crush on our friends 10 year old who is arsenal mad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,250 ✭✭✭IrishOwl...

I know, we're also from Mayo, so the chap absolutely loves misery! There's actually a few older Spurs fans in our town, and my lad happened to start school at the same time as a few of their kids, so like his friends were doing, he had a liking for Spurs, I actually genuinely did warn him about it!!🙈 But then my sister brought him home a knock off Harry Kane jersey after a holiday in Spain and that sealed the deal…

Kids are funny, they'll sometimes do as their parents tell them, more times it what friends or love interest are at, ha!

My dad wasn't into football. I didn't follow anyone until Italia 90 turned me into a proper fan. Followed United because my older brother did, and became a keeper because of (fellow Donegal man) Packie Bonner's heroics against Romania.

Thanks for the joint pain Packie…

I support United cause my dad wouldn't bring me (with zero interest in football at the time) with him to watch the Cup Final in 94. So I supported United cause he supports Chelsea.

And my older brother supports Arsenal.

I do wish we all supported the same side, would be more fun now, regardless of which team it was.

My Dad grew up supporting City but I started supporting United because just my friends did and we went to our first game when we were just 8.

My best friend supports City and we’re going to the game together on Sunday. First time going to the Derby so looking forward to it, even though I’ll be in the home section and will have to stay quiet when we get the winner 😉

Growing up my best friend and his 4 brothers all supported 5 different teams. Still to this day I can never get my head around it…UTD, Liverpool, Villa, Spurs and Leeds!

My father supported United from the Busby days and my older brother was nicknamed Sparky after Mark Hughes.

It was a great time to be supporting United, the excitement of trying to end the title drought in the early 90s.

What a time to be a United fan!

My little lad is 3 next week and got him to say "come on Manchester United" for the first time recently. He also clapped when Forest scored so it's not a done deal yet! I'm so looking forward to bringing him to Old Trafford or whatever shiny new stadium we have for the first time.

If things continue as they are maybe he'll get to start supporting them properly at a similarly exciting time in the not too distant future......

I Started supporting united as it was the first game I watched live and I think Hughes scored a volley so I fell in love.

The missus wants a ban on match watching lately though 🤣 Even the Dog does a runner when united are on due to loud expletives.....👀

Dad was a Shels supporter didn't follow any English teams but had a soft spot for United after Munich 58. I was one years old then, I started to follow them from circa mid 60s, Law Best Charlton, 68 was special, I was 11 yrs old, next brother supports us too, younger brother started off following Chelsea but jumped ship to Pool. Always remind him of it and tell him he's tainted having not stuck with first pick. Both kids follow United too, one married into another United family and first Grandkid , a good baller, playing 3rd season ETP interleague footy also supports United. Other 2 grandkids are only 5 and not showing any signs yet..…

I have followed United for years. My 2 sons are also obsessed and we have had many unreal trips to Old Trafford along with my 2 daughters who love the trip.

3 nephews who also have traveled with us to matches but youngest who is 23 said it’s my fault he is a United fan as he can’t remember the good days and has mostly being following defeats and misery.

At least I’m old enough to remember the good times and while I always knew Ferguson was ruthless he should not have been let retire over a short time medical issue.
