Barreda did say he wants or is aiming a title by 2028, with Amorim coming in mid season that has to push it back maybe a year.

The post was posted with a grain of salt but we are years away from challenging all the same.

I hope your wrong and Amorim is still here with challenging the league title, would mean we've had some success along the way.

Klopp was 5 years at Liverpool before delivering the title wasn't he? I don't think a 5 year wait for a title challenge would mean an end for Amorim.

This isn't a dig at the OP but so many fans expect immediate success its madness, to me so far we are looking at a team that looks like its got a plan on how to play and good tactics. We should have beat NF but for silly mistakes and as I have said to LiamO, All players have had a chance to play now in the last few games, time to get a settled 11 out there now & see what we can do

Amorim is a good appointment, most people in the football world seem to agree that he's an innovative coach, who has coached a traditionally "big" club that was in a slump back to a title. He also has a fairly innovative take on the game, tactic wise, so that is also to be welcomed.

ETH was also a good appointment at the time of the appointment, he was definitely being sought after by other top clubs, and fair enough, he had had Ajax doing some pretty good things in Europe. It didn't work out. Same as Amorim may not work out, but that won't mean that at the time (now) he wasn't a good appointment.

I'm not on twitter so can't find links but rumours going round that Garnachos brother is leaking the line ups.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Yeah, but I'd argue garnacho brother can't leak the lineup.

It would be garnacho leaking it to him.

The same crowd this is happening with have also relentlessly attacked Rashford.

Add this to the 'accidental' liking of posts by garnacho and... Its painting that kid in a very bad light.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,837 ✭✭✭Hodors Appletart

didn't his brother spout shít when Garnacho was asked to play a different position a while back.

Agreed, the post liking nonsense has happened too often for it to be accepted as accidental. He may simply be young and stupid but it needs to be knocked on the head. He's coming across as having the Ronaldo ego but not backing it up with Ronaldo performances.

PS even if he did have Ronaldo performances, that kind of petulance and stupidity needs to be dealt with.

Ok his brother is leaking them online, Jesus Mitch do you have a kink of wanting to have an opposite opinion to everyone 😂😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

No, my point is saying Roberto is leaking them places blame on someone who has no responsibility to the club. My point is if Roberto is the source, it's alejandro that should be blamed. It's the player sharing the knowledge with anyone, but particularly someone who is making it public, that should be blamed.

Simply put - Alejando is the leak imo, not Roberto.

But I'll leave it there because defending myself gets me warned, and then banned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,791 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

I was joking, the original comment was badly worded by me (only awake) I should have said the brother is leaking them online.

I'd be certain a few players are telling close friends and family the line ups.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭Caustic

Every player is at least telling someone, if they are starting or not and probably a lot more so by the argument above everyone will be leaking. So it's just nonsense.

Obviously if garnachos bro is found to be the leak he would have to be stop being told, just like it would have any other person who told a family member and they leaked.

But the granacho brother story is a very easy one to me made up, given the history. if he is the leak who leaked the story about him :) was it himself? Maybe he is a leaking addict.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,791 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

He used to be (prob still is) connected to the twitter account leaking the line ups, he deleted any details on his bio associated with them.

He's young and probably loves clout so I'm guessing he has a few too many people what he's up to, loose lips and all that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Every player may tell people, but if you know the person you are telling is then leaking information, it is your responsibility to shut it down.

It shouldn't take a genius to work out that if your brothers' mate and 'representative' or whatever he called himself is leaking the line ups, that your brother is involved.

Also, pictures from the FA Cup celebrations of Granacho, his brother, the guy in question (and iShowSpeed I think) and some others at the afterparty posing with the Cup as a group. So i would be comfortable saying its up to Alejandro to shut it down if he wants to. And if he doesn't want to, that is a black mark against him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,351 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

A word needs to be had with Granacho, he's a talented player but this club has sold/let go of bigger and better players.

If his brother leaks any more team news then there needs to be consequences. Make that clear and follow through if it doesn't land with him.
You need to set the example within the squad that the players while at Utd will show total respect to the club and once they don't off they go

If we want to change the culture of failure that has developed inside the club then things like this cannot be let slide

Its not a bad comparison to make. In 5 years time if Amorim has built a side that has identify and clear image on how it wants to play, has reached a few Champions League finals, and mounted a serous title charge within that time frame. Then yes I think a title in year 5 would be definitely successful and worth waiting for. I don't think anyone will be calling for his head if he has achieved those metrics on route to finally winning a title.

Its a bit like Arsenal fans and Arteta at the minute. He has built a side in his imagine, has a clear identity, play good football and their fans are more than happy to stick it out with him, and rightfully so, as they are buying into what he’s trying to do. Despite no major silverware within that time.

No point repeating it, but UTD’s major problem over the last few years, is lack of identify and style on the field. So, the fans find it hard to buy into the project and its very hard for any manager to recover from that, once the initial trust/ optimism in the system is gone.

In 18 months, if all Amiron has done is get a UTD side playing with identity and style to his making, then that’s successful. A decent Champions League run or 2 and maybe a title charge in the following years would be nice to go with it.

Fair enough. It might not have been at United but I think we have seen something from Amorim already. I think he has earned a certain amount of respect. Obvious caveat that it has been in a lesser league. I don't think he's getting praise and respect for just taking the job.

Time will tell of course whether it ultimately turns out to be a good appointment. Him ultimately failing doesn't make it the wrong appointment either though.

100% agree with this. For far too long players have been allowed to think they are bigger than the club. For now it's a warning but if it leaks again I'd be looking to get rid no matter how good he is/can be.

Speaking in general terms, I think a lot of people are seeing what they want to see in the performances so far. Its a new regime and they are excited so they are content with what they see, but objectively, has anything really changed? Because I am still seeing a misfiring attack, a midfield that can't control the ball and multiple poor individual performances and mistakes in every game. It was not a tough run of fixtures so I have no doubt whatsoever that if Ten Hag were still in charge that the recent results would probably have been similar.

No, thats not a criticism of Amorim, that is not the point being made.

I've seen nothing so far that we didn't already see when Ten Hag joined, so to come back to the original point, I don't intend to proclaim Amorim as the saviour until we actually do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,210 ✭✭✭KH25

I just don’t get the leaking lineups thing. It obviously shouldn’t happen (and if it’s coming from a player they should be punished), but what’s the benefit to it?

I get that the opposition could use the info, but for the general public what’s the big deal about waiting for the official announcement? Sure you could probably guess 75% of the lineup for a given team without any insider info.

I think there have been a few encouraging signs under Amorim, but certainly nothing to be getting carried away with just yet... AND those encouraging signs come with the caveat of the new manager bounce.

I think you two are just coming at it from different angles.

Was the appointment of Amorim a good one? I think most United fans think it was.

Has he been a good appointment? I think most will reserve judgement but some will get carried away. (I'm not sure if I've got most and some in the correct place there.) I wouldn't deny anyone the joy of getting a bit carried away, it's miserable enough follow us lately.

I would imagine these performances are what most fans expect from these players now

I certainly didn't think Amorim would be waving a magic wand and we'd suddenly become a cohesive team unit.
I fully understand (and would hope must others do as well) that there will still be terrible performances this season. Along with some good, but in the long run it will hopefully pay off.

I'm under no illusions that there is still a ton of work to be done on the playing staff

You are right, we are seeing a lot of the same problems as when Ten Hag started. Amorim is a fine coach but this team and squad is not what he would want or need to play his preferred ways.

Just look at CBs passing between themselves and not progressing play or the lack of wing backs as major issues.

It will take a lot to change so much of the squad and it's questionable how United will be able to do that. It is as likely that his time will be cut short due to how out of sync his needs are with the squad as it is that he will be able to get the results that allow for a phased and sustainable improvement.

The club cutting Ashworth so quickly shows how quickly a drift can happen or how little time people will get to do their jobs at a club that has seen football operations move to the minority ownership of a man in his early 70's

tbf I feel the right side (Maz/Amad/Bruno/Mount) has shown some promising signs and movement. The lack of a LWB other than Malacia is killing the left side.

Reports that the Club are looking to offload Rashford in January. I think we have seen with Ashworth is they aren't going to hang around with players deemed surplus to requirements.
