Everyone’s entitled to their opinion or religion, but his views on LGBT matters are utterly irrelevant to his job as a footballer.

I’m not sure footballers should be pressured to wear symbols like this or the poppy or whatever.
It also undermines the show of support, if we know that people are forced to wear them - so they don’t actually support that cause.

My own view is they shouldn't have any of it, poppies, rainbow armbands etc.

Its an interesting one. Does a player get to choose the teams kit and what parts not to wear?

We had a player years ago on our GAA team that refused to wear a jersey with a particular sponsor. He was that good though that he was allowed wear his own jersey.

Agree completely. Sport should to be about getting away from life for a few hours and only focus on the match. And a lot of people would consider me "woke" in a lot of situations. Stupid and the most overused word IMO by the way.

His choice but as captain, he really should be leading by example, not just to his teammates but also the club's fans.

He should be able to overcome his own objections and show a more inclusive side. Again, as a devout Muslim, he should have a problem with gambling but that doesn't seem to be a problem. Look up Frederic Kanoute, he used to wear a blank jersey when he played for a club sponsored by a betting company so its not impossible.

The poppy comparison is weak. Have members of the LGBT+ murdered Muslims in an official capacity? Can you really not see how they are not comparable?

Of course, it's right and proper that it isn't mandatory for captains to be forced to wear special armbands, laces plus religious messaging is barred from being displayed, but there's obviously an unwritten 'code' at work in sports.....for better or worse.

Easy solution is to remove all that nonsense and just play what you're being paid to play.

Do yourself a favour and speak to a few Muslim immigrant men from the Middle East. I live in a town with Syrian refugees in local hotel for the last 6 or 7 years.

I often speak to them near their beach side hotel or the local playground.

Their typical opinions on homosexuality is not something I've ever heard from native Irish people; I was born in 1975 for reference.

The discussions only ever dealt with male homesexuality; no talk of lesbians or Allah forbid "T+" part of the umbrella group.
