Irish Rail New Proposed Timetable - August 2024

The same issue applies to accomodation crossings, whether they are Sligo or Mayo. They are often left open and they slow trains down, but this is already factored into the timetable, and journey times. Last year I was on two trips that involved emergency stops due to farmers driving onto the tracks in front of a train.

But as mentioned, single track is the worst issue for causing delays. More passing loops are needed on the Sligo line, and signallers need access to real time location, and not just section block.

The August timetable was designed using theory. People who drive the trains weren't even asked for any input.

Closure announced for the Christmas/New Year period. No trains between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock from the 27th December until the 5th of Jan. With a few exceptions. Some people may have already noticed the night time prep works on the Loopline bridge. First track renewal in 20 years.

Yeah Northside services running out of Connolly, Southside running out of GCD.

    Exceptions will be :

New Years eve at 23:00 onwards - Southside services running out of Pearse

2nd & 3rd jan between 06:00-18:00 - Southside services running out of Pearse

Do we know if the P5/6 crossover will be renewed and the 10mph lifted.

My train is consistently 4 - 6 mins late getting into Connolly every time I take it.

my Dart yesterday left Greystones 10 minutes late. I'd have thought the practical thing in those circumstances would be to run the following service, which departs from Bray, early to fill the now empty slot.

Obviously they didn't do this so there was a 20 minute gap in services, which got bigger as my train got delayed at every station from Dun Laoghaire onwards because it was jammed full and people couldn't get on, not helped by it being a 6-car train. Arrived in Pearse over 20 minutes down, no apology or explanation.

I don't think I've arrived in town in the morning less than 10 minutes late since September.

Irish Rail are chronically poor at service recovery, and making a service become another service seems to slip their mind - they can and do do it, but extremely, extremely rarely.

I'm not sure, but I'd imagine the crossover will be renewed as part of the works. Can't see the 10mph being lifted though. There's lots of small things that could be done to improve delays built into the system, but they seem hesitant to change them.

No services currently north of connolly due to a signalling fault this evening

Maynooth and Hazelhatch also suffering delays from this

Just got a train from Portmarnock, so they must be back.

    Yeah they're back

Major Disruption - DART and Dundalk line

    28 November 2024

Signalling fault across DART and Dublin to Dundalk line resolved, significant delays remain.

    20:10hrs 28th November 2024

All DART services and Dublin to Dundalk services are delayed following an earlier signalling fault, with Belfast services affected also.

While the fault has been rectified, significant delays remain, and Dublin Bus are accepting rail tickets for affected services.

There are resulting delays to Maynooth and Grand Canal Dock/Connolly to Hazelhatch/Newbridge services also.

We will update service information on this page.

Iarnród Éireann apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused

    The fault has returned.

    Good quality fix there so.

Really should rename the Dart Line and the Northern Commuter the Misery Lines at this stage, been an awful few weeks.

Quite a few trains now very, very late, here are some of the worst:

    • 18:59 - Grand Canal Dock to Drogheda (138 mins late)
    • 17:55 - Howth to Greystones (137 mins late)
    • 18:25 - Malahide to Greystones (121 mins late)
    • 19:25 - Docklands to M3 Parkway (116 mins late)
    • 18:35 - Bray to Howth (114 mins late)
    • 18:58 - Maynooth to Dublin Connolly (102 mins late)
    • 19:19 - Howth to Bray (101 mins late)
    • 18:52 - Drogheda to Grand Canal Dock (100 mins late)

Those delays are in the region of refunds and vouchers are they not ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,096 ✭✭✭✭L1011

All of them are in the 50% range, some in the 100% range.

Who is going to claim for a €1/€2 voucher though; for the delayed journeys within the Leap zone.

If its like the strike refunds for Taxsaver, you get paper vouchers in the post and have to find a manned station to exchange them. Was easy for me as my station is officially open 0830-2330 7 days (and earlier in the working week) but bugger all for some.

I was at Rush and Lusk at lunch time. Everything broken at the train station. Ticket machine, machine where you tap your card and the sign that says when the train is due. Plus the 1:31pm wasn't showing on the app. Welcome to the house of cards that's Irish public transport.

So back to "normal" I guess. I did wonder why buses were so busy tonight.

Has anyone insight into how there's been two substantial collapses of the signalling service in such a short space of time ? I thought there'd been signalling upgrades but how has there been such a sudden sharp deterioration? Is there a fix possible?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,052 ✭✭✭thomasj

bit of an unmitigated disaster it was last night.

    • lack of information at stations, online and on trains
    • people stuck on trains outside stations waiting for clearance
    • people on intercity trains waiting to move

id love to know what happened? hopefully theres an investigation

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,233 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

Main system went down. Then the backup system gave issues when it was switched in. Signallers unable to see the state of the signals, or where trains were in the system.

Imagine having those late night rail services all year round! What a boost t would be to the night time economy and for shift workers! It can be seen from the recent 24 hour bus launches, how successful and in demand such late services are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,052 ✭✭✭thomasj

absolutely agree! the likes of the 39A struggles with nightime capacity, especially towards the weekend . having extra trains around 12.30-1.30 would make a difference to the likes of Blanchardstown and Maynooth/leixlip where the buses are already struggling with nightime capacity

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,903 ✭✭✭ILikeBoats

Yes, it's a massive pain having to leave a night out at 11/11.15 to catch the last train

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,476 ✭✭✭bikeman1

They really should be running them as you say all year round. Also the first of those trains heading outbound should work a stopping service back into Dublin too. Gives people an option to get home later too going the other way. The train is out and the driver paid already, best make use of them.

Literally a similar timetable Thursday to Saturday nights would be all that is needed.
