Just off the phone to HMRC (00441912037010). No wait time at all after I'd answered the robot's questions.

I was giving them a call because I had some Class 2 and some Class 3 years, and I only wanted to pay for specific years. In fairness, they were very helpful.

However, the lady I spoke to informed me that the bank a/c details have changed. She said this is a very recent change. The payment reference remains unchanged. No idea if the previous account details (as shared by other posters) are shut down, but I was directed not to pay into that account. If anyone has received a letter with the old account details, and are yet to pay, it might be worth a call to HMRC before you send payment.

Details I was given are as follows:

    UK Details:

    Sort Code - 08 32 20

    A/c no. - 12001004

A/C name - HMRC NIC Receipts

    International Details

    BIC - BARCGB22

    IBAN - GB49 BARC 2020 4830 9447 93

Address - Barclays Bank PLC, 1 Churchill Place, London, United Kingdom, E14 5HP

EDIT - actually, seems like just the UK account details have changed. I was paying from Revolut, so I needed the UK details. The international details are unchanged.

Is April the deadline for making back payments or the deadline for making the application and submitting the CF83?

My application only went in this week and I’d say I might struggle to get an answer by April on what class I am for back payments. My online record had defaulted to Class 3 for all payments but I’m not paying £11k for my back years in one lump unless I really have to.

Its to have it paid by 5th April 2025. Do the application online and you will have a reponse back in 4 - 6 weeks.

4-6 weeks is optimistic. But getting an application in is the main thing.

If you do it online, you will get it back within 6 weeks but if you fill it in and post it, then it will way more

I submitted it yesterday online and the indicated expect a reply date is January 31st 2025.

If I put the same info into the HMRC website for a postal submission it is showing an expected reply date of November 2025.

Just called them yet again again again :-(

Told that they are only now processing money that was received in DECEMBER 2023 (now mid November 2024)

My money was transferred April 2024 and still no update.

Wake me up when it's all over.

If I'd known that it was such a drawn out process I wouldn't have sat on this for months 😶

    I also paid around april/may 24

My payment was processed last month.

tbh I don't think you can believe a word the reps say? I want to know why they always have to find out how long the wait is when every other person must be asking that question?

Wake me up when it's all over.

Keep calling until you get a rep who can sort stuff out. I had to call 4 or so times.

I received my letter informing me of my revised (Class 2) shortfall rates back in October 2023. I have been sitting on it since then putting off making a payment as it sounded like it was going to be a massive pain. Anyway I called HMRC this morning to confirm the bank account etc. which had already been given in the above posts. The lady was very helpful (her name I believe was Marisa). I told her which years I was going to pay so she confirmed the amount and noted the years on the file for the allocation. The call duration was 17 mins in total, I was gobsmacked!, I thought it would take hours! Anyway, I have a UK bank account so called them to set up the new payee and made the payment. HMRC said it should be allocated within 10 weeks. Good luck everyone!

Surprise surprise, I got a letter today from HMRC today only two weeks after my online submission confirming Class 2 and the right to buy back years as far back as 2006. Very pleased with that 😁

Primetime the other night a guy was on talking about this being "the best investment you could make "!

He was a bit misleading to people though ( short clip in fairness I suppose ) .

He said you had to have " worked there for 10 years " and that you could pay 2000 sterling back to get a full pension !

Think somebody from here should have gone on instead 😊

You would wonder sometimes were people get their information from, especially when it's part of their job to provide it.

I had to ring them a several times, after sending a letter explaining they sent me two letters on the same day, one stating I could pay class 2 and the other a mixture of 2 and 3.

Eventually I got someone who said that I can pay class 2. So, hopefully that's that. I've paid the money.

I think I need to ring them to make sure they got it and that it's been allocated as stated on the letter.

One tip if you are getting the run around by the automated phone call assistant, is to say you need to speak to a human. 😁

Exactly! But sounds like the "expert" couldn't even use google, never mind wikipedia. 😅

It's a pity cause it probably turned off a few people when they heard you need to have worked over there 10 years to be able to claim the backdated contributions. While that's definitely not the case.

Hi all! For various personal reasons I am a lot later getting around to sorting this out than I would have liked.

I have 5 full years of NI contributions, leaving the UK in 2010. I have completed the online CF83, and believe in my cover letter I can just emphasis that I believe I qualify for class 2 for the years I have been working in the EU/Ireland (worked for some years in countries where there is no agreement with the UK).

This may be cheeky, and perhaps more than a little bit lazy, but is anyone willing to share a simple template of a cover letter in a format that has been accepted? It might be a big help not just to me, but to anyone else who is coming late to the party and rushing things before deadline.

Send a print out of your social welfare history. That's what I did.

Provide your NI number for UK work and maybe list your employment here with dates if you don't get your Irish insurance record
