An Coimisiún Toghcháin does not have regulatory powers in relation to posters or printed election materials. The responsibility for this lies with Franchise Unit in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

I think it was to ensure that you the citizen knows who is behind printed material. All election material must have an 'imprint' which gives this information.

Fines and even imprisonment for not doing it.

Where a person is guilty of an offence, such person shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding €634.87 euro or, at the discretion of the court, to imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months or to both such fine and such imprisonment.

Seems odd when the person's name is on the poster I know. But I think it is a blanket requirement that cover leaflets too where the sender may not have their name on it. I vaguely recall a controversy of leaflets targeting other candidates anonymously at one time.

I assume that Anna Daly has been using the same posters in all of her campaigns - she ran in 2020 and the also ran in the locals in 2019 and this year.

Anyone know when these rules came in?

Ted Neville! The original anti-immigration candidate. He ran on that platform in 2002! Sure there were hardly any foreigners in the country back then.
